Even though it's brand new, this is possibly the most classic Nate Florence vid. We got the whole fam, stock talk, an indecently long but completely absorbing break from surfing to observe animals, air camp, and Pyzel sailing on the beach. I guess the only things we're missing are thunderthighs and a story time.

James Pardue You know that with splits you don‘t get any profit. Only when the demand increases. So the stock price goes up. Also the dividents go down after a split, mostly so much as the ratio is the same as before...

@Nathan I’m only mentioning this because I care that you don’t lose a ton of money at such a young age. What it sounds like you’re doing is called “speculative” investing. This form of investing is no more effective than gambling at the casino. There’s a book written by Banjamin Graham (warren buffets mentor), here’s his number one rule: you can only be a full time investor or a passive investor. Nothing in between. Full time investor does it as a full time job. Only at that point should you be picking your own stocks. The other 99.9999% should automatically invest a set amount into the S&P500/bonds at regular intervals.
When I read this the first time I thought it was BS too. Especially after making money on the stock market. However, all it took was one graph to convince me otherwise....
Graham has a beautiful graph in the book that boils down to this: You have two people, one picks their own stocks and the other is automatically m putting money into the S&P 500. After decades of investment, the person picking their own stocks is going to make a few mistakes. Those mistakes make it almost impossible for them to catch up to the individual automatically investing into the market.
You see, the danger is this: it is nearly impossible to recover from inevitable mistakes. So why put so much time and effort into the stock market when you could make more money by barely thinking about it? It’s not as sexy, but it’s the truth (backed by the research from the greatest investor of all time).
When you try and do both (play around with individual stocks + do it as a hobby) that’s when you lose! Check out the intelligent investor. It’s a great read and well worth the ROI for your time.

I think the pyzel works great in steep barreling waves. But on flatter waves it seems to loose speed after a radical turn. My Simon Anderson. And my Dan Man. Don't really loose speed after a turn. Even when I watch johns surfing he always has to really pump the board a lot to gain speed after his insane hacks or airs. You can't really go wrong trying out different shapers. Because being loyal to one shaper could be detrimental to expanding surfing horizons. On the mystery " stab series" pyzel always seems to be on top. The fastest board I've ever surfed are Timmy Patterson. Those bottoms are fast. Those are my favorite. I just can't find um on Oahu. Try um all.

Ahhhh the good'ole days of hanging out with friends on the beach. My dad had a place in Newport Beach for 11 years, 5 houses back from the water. We were all hanging out in the living room one time and he came out and told us that some day we'd look back and appreciate these days and that they were the best days of our lives. We looked at him like he was crazy. At 50 now I get what he was talking about. RIP pops. Enjoy these times!! Thanks for sharing!!
