Wood Turning Impossible Connected Rings

- I thought it would be cool to woodturn a goblet with connected captive rings. Connecting the rings together was more trick than magic, but it was cool watching them dance together on the stem of the goblet as it spun on the lathe, and it will be fun making people guess how they got intertwined!

I thought he make the ring without splitting up any of them.
nice. i did the same but i didn't cut the ring with the saw, i break the ring with my hands and then glue it with regular wood glue and so the broken part is not possible to see. (sorry for my bad english)
Slick. Beautiful goblet and that wood is quite lovely.
That is such a cool design. Beautiful wood grain.
I have done that a few times. Drives people crazy. Good job.
Beautiful project! You do great work 👏!
Hey Drew, awesome project! Great perseverance too! This was definitely not an easy one!
Keep it up!
Seth
The goblet looks great, well done. Take care and stay safe.
Great project. Those rings must have been trouble some.
Yeah I made a few mistakes that I apparently didn’t learn from previous attempts haha
Oh my gosh so delicate and a clever idea too ..love it 😀
Simply incredible...wow! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks!
Very cool. With my luck the ring would break when trying to put them together
I was so sure that was gonna happen to me haha
That was freaking awesome!
Beautiful work!
Las infinidades de cosas que podemos lograr en el torno... buen trabajo
Nicely done!!! Great video work too!
Great work mate, the rings are always a nice touch.
Thank you!
Nice work!
A bit of constructive feedback is that you can see sanding marks in the cup of the goblet and the glue line in the ring, if you use a glue that doesn't soak in as much on porous timber like that, you won't see it as much, maybe a bit more sanding would get rid of it?
Look in to some hooked ring scrapers too, you can get the rings really nice and round with them!
As i said, not having a dig, just giving advice, ignore it if ya like! I still watch your videos!
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it when it’s helpful!
Hi Drew, Nice goblet. There is a way to turn interconnecting captive rings. I have seen a video of it being done but not something I will ever try. Take care Drew. Cheers, Huw
Awe but you could share the link maybe?! 😉
Sehr sehr interessant
Congratulation !! It's a very beautiful objet and a good work sincerely !! Good day and Hello from France !!!
Thank you!!!
What skill!!!
Nice job mate, looks great. Stay safe, John
Ingenious!
Beautiful hand work
Linda, perfeita 👏 👏👏 👏
Great job, cool🤗
Welldone for time spent
Outstanding.
Thanks👍
You can do it without slitting up any of the ring. Try again plzx
Well done - i.e. making us watch to see how you interlocked the rings. Perhaps use a fine blade fret saw and hide the cuts in the grain next time? The cup itself ? Pleasant shape and nice wood, I like it😊 Thanks🙏 Stay safe. -Mike😷⏳
Amazing design...👍
Might be better to try and snap the wood. It would re-join then without being visible.
Vc devia desviar um relevo pro nó ficar no meio, bom trabalho!
Amazing!!
Good work man !! What s your lathe machine model ?
I greatly appreciate the effort you put in wood turning, let me give you a tip and a hint. The tip is simple, next time break the ring instead of cutting it, and chose the right spot to break it, that way you will break it following perfectly its grain and when you glue it back it will be almost invisible. The hint is to take a wood turning course or to buy and study some good instructional dvds, you have a great potential, but it will be completely disclosed only when you will learn to ride the bevel properly, riding the bevel will give you perfect control on the shape, it is the key of accurate and effortless turning, i have seen in your videos how you deal both with the grain parallel and perpendicular to the rotation axis and nor riding the bevel properly seems to be your main problem. Take my advice in a positive way, as I told I see some good potential in you, my goal is not to take you down, but to help you as I am convinced that you can do much better then now if you will learn that fundamental turning skill.
Amazing 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Perfect
Amaizing
genial 🤘😎👍💚🍺🖖
I think if anyone can do it without a cut it's you.
👌💯🇧🇷
Thought impossible until he saw off 1 of the rings. Connected? Yeah. Impossible? Hardly.
CHEAT! I'll give you one thing, though: it IS impossible.
is not but not via turning
Whoops. Delete that first ring that broke.
Seriously? Impossible? Wow! How desperate you are getting a click?
