Was a fairly frequent flyer on Frontier Airlines 580s between Denver and towns in Wyoming and Nebraska. Always enjoyed that aircraft…felt like a real airplane!
This crew was an absolute pleasure to watch and listen to! Another great one Patrick. Love that I discovered this channel! Better late than never I guess!
This company also operated these aircraft in Tonga under the name Chathams Pacific. I had the pleasure of flying from Fuaámotu on Tongatapu to Vavaú at about 11,000'. The view was spectacular through big windows. Arriving in the Ha'pai group the aircraft had a small technical hitch in getting started again of the starboard engine APU. After a bit of tinkering and talking to the flight crew, a RAAF engineer with 30yrs experience on Hercs, sorted the problem and we got back to Tongtapu in time to make our flight back to NZ.
My first flight on an airliner was on a North Central Airlines Convair 580. That was back in 1973 and it was a round trip from Chicago (ORD) to Milwaukee and back. Wonderful video spotlighting the last Convair-Liner in passenger service. Thanks for sharing!
Another good one Pat,thank you, entertaining and informative cockpit chat and great views of old type instruments and flight controls.Really looking forward to next video, pity you had to work but some body has to pay the bills.Cheers mate.
Texas International (TI), formerly TTA or Trans Texas Airways ( also known as Tree Top Airlines) flew the Convairs across southern Louisiana and Texas. I used to often, going to see my parents, who had moved from New Orleans to Midland-Odessa, Texas. The Convairs were wonderful, with the usual milk runs stopping in airports like Lafayette, LA. And so on. Love this film.
I thought the humming of the DC-3 engines were intoxicating, but this is on another level. I typically watch these videos right as I am retiring to bed and cannot wait to sleep to the sound of this tonight! :-)
1:32:55 "and then it finally got into the airlines - ERA Aviation. That's in Alaska, and I've probably flown on this very plane between PANC-PACD and PANC-PAEN (Anchorage, Cold Bay and King Salmon, respectively). Nice flights and it was a vast improvement over the "flying hotdogs" (Metroliners). I remember once at Cold Bay, the copilot asked me to assist closing the boarding ladder when I got off; the ground crew had gone back inside because it was too cold.
Patrick, that was such a fun video to watch! These 2 guys were very enjoyable to spend these 2 hours with. My only problem is I’ve looked in here and your website for the 2nd part flight to Chatham Islands and I can’t find it. Where can I see this video?
Glad you enjoyed it! maybe youtube took it down I will have a look and upload it again if im able to find it. Thanks for the comment didn´t noticed that part 2 was missing. Greetings Patrick
I remember flying frontier convair 580 from ft Smith ar to fyv ar to dfw. Flew thru rough turbulence on one. Scary. And landed in fsm with crab and wing dipped close to ground on landing. Very memorable. Work horse of a plane.
Really good video. Excellent photography and editing. Great company as well. Sat in the jump seat a few time on CIB. High work load. I watched the whole thing from my quarantine hotel in Auckland.
Kind of scary for me but not for the crew what a great job they did. Darrell had to work the whole time. Bet he sleeps good tonight. The pilot I’m sure had to put some muscle on it also. Kudos for keeping the old girl in the air. Great job for Patrick also. But he’s used to suffering for his viewers. My heart always goes out to him. Tough job he has keeping us happy for.
I love the way the Captain gives the plane a knock to check that it’s working.

That brought back some memories. I used to fly the Wall Street Journal and USA Today into town for 2 years using a 580. Thanks for the video.
Very cool! Did you fly some important people ?
@@AirClipscom In my career I have but when I was flying the 580 I was just flying newspapers. They were the best pax because they never complained 😂
Oh thankyou Air clips

One of the best walk arounds I have seen on this channel 👍🏻
Thats nice to hear, what was diffrent to the other ones ?
Awesome video Patrick. Those big Allison t56 really boost the performance of any aircraft they’re attached to

Thank you, great show, great effort, fun to watch
That check list tho😱
I wish there was a video with good sound of the engine start up. I love the sound of those engines.
Yeah it is amazing we need a ASMR plane channel

Amazing! love the personalities, Patrick thank you so much for this!
Music to my ears 👂 ah Beautiful
Absolutely fantastic video…..just loved every minute of it. One of my favourite flight videos!
Couldn't help thinking about the movie Con Air when I saw it was a Convair 😁
What a fantastic classic to fly.
Thank you Patrick for such a fascinating and detailed video on the Convair - what a beautiful aircraft!
Fun fact: Air Chathams recently added another 3 Saab 340A's to their fleet, purchased from my employer, Regional Express in Australia.
Wow thank you for the behind the scenes information!

Nice
I miss working on the Air Chathams 580s 🥲🥲🥲
Why did the pilot monitoring put his hand on the emergency handle? He did it at 34:20 and also at 43:00
Being an avid #yvr spotter who loves to watch the Kelowna A.F. Convairs flying in & out of yvrairport, I'd love to see a video. 🙏👍
Very interesting.
Haha the gopro comment at the very end.
Супер!
