hello, i use wire that you use to hang clothes to dry, the one reinforced with metal wires inside. i use one of the metal strands inside. works perfectly, you don't have to sacrifice your soldering iron. regards
No but I did when he cracked open the soldiering iron... I mean he needed it again at the end to use as a soldering iron.... How many did he have on hand at home🤷
+Just5mins Is the whole wire hanger not charged now as it appeared that you completed the circuit by connecting to the hanger? what I mean now if you touch the hanger you will get a shock.. or if the hanger accidentally hits metal object it will spark and short out.. no?
Make sure the wire is your negative. Even if you mess that up, the positive isn't referenced to ground, assuming you are using a USB charge pack, not a USB wall wart.
What type of metal are the rods the nichrome wire attaches to made of? Do you know its normal aplication? It will make it easier for me to find it in the hardware store if you do. Nice build.
Hi, nice video, I tried this, even bought Nichrome wire, its like the 5V is not enough, I did calculations and I should be able to use a 12 inch length, but its like no power is going through the hot wire. Any tips? I am about to make a 115 v system with a down transformer but my calculations say its not necessary. I haven't soldered connections because I am just testing, is it possible the connections are not good enough without solder??
The obvious weakspot is where the USB and NiCr wire are connected. I'd rather have a fixed point where the USB lead enters, or a wingnut to keep the NiCr wire in place.
I would NEVER make an unsafe circuitry like this and plug it to a power source (as in AC power). 9V battery "maybe" a safe way to do it. But, I am still dubious about all of this.
Ok so you do know that your USB out is DC and is 5v you want to use a 9v battery which is more power than the USB. It's been 3 years since you posted this, I'm hoping you are less "dubious" than at the time of this post. And ignore what the commenter below said, they are even more dubious than you....maybe?
@@Threewulphmoon hey there guy, I'm hoping no one seen your comment then got their ass killed by thinking AC is safer than DC. I mean I don't know if you were trolling or just didn't realize what you said here. But if anyone reads this they hopefully know that you are full of shite. AC kills you dead. DC does not. You can even use DC in water. Not high voltages but even at 100v I doubt it would kill you unlike AC would send you to the shadow realm. You would be seeing 3 moons and the spirit of wolves past, that's your sure.
Why not just buy heater wire... Seems like it would be cheaper than a soldering iron. I guess your trying to show working with what's on hand... But I don't have two soldering irons I don't have even one... I like how you used a USB vs many other videos I've seen that take power cords off random appliances. I feel like that's an item many people have on hand(USB cords)
Dave's right. I would NEVER make an unsafe circuitry like this and plug it to a power source (as in AC power). 9V battery "maybe" a safe way to do it. But, I am still dubious about all of this.
Hello, could you please tell me the values on your portable charger ? (output and input) I think I am doing something wrong... If I use my portable charger the wire is not even warming, but when I made a new cutter with connection to the outlet then the wire is gone in just fucking flash (literally burned the wire) - Do I have a bad type of wire or am I doing something wrong with Cu wires ? Could you please explain me with more details ?
ok so i just made this and nothing happened. it didnt even get hot the cord i cut had a green and white wire as well was i supposed to keep them? can somone plz tell me what i did wrong. i didnt have nicrome wire so i used kanthol wire it still does the same thing
The green and white wire is signal wire, You dont need to keep it. Make sure that the two terminal of Kanthol wire connected to the black and red wire of USB cable. If you make sure about this, can you take a picture for me and send to my email? :)
JUST TO BE SAFE, I RATHER USE A POWER BANK THAN CONNECTING IT DIRECTLY TO THE OUTLET.. ITS LESS DANGEROUS IF SOMETHING HAPPEN... OR MORE SO, ILL JUST USE A NINE VOLTS BATTERY AND NOT A POWER BANK.. THAT WIL DO.. RIGHT>?
A) Wrong tool to cut hangar B) The wire in the soldering iron is not what makes the top hit C) Current will follow through the hangar, which will greatly reduce the efficiency D) A USB cannot apply enough current. This video is a joke.
Kristen Brandon nicrome wire. It's cheap, order it on Amazon...aka kanthal...aka any stainless steel wire, or wire from a hair dryer, toaster or those kinds of alliances that heat up...it's in EVERYTHING including vape coils...but this is a great way to short you're battery out and cause injury...this is not the smartest easy of doing things...especially with a Lipo
MyBigThing2010 yeah.. righto mate.. go grab a 5v output with 0.9A running through it and come back here with your results.. i wont wait for your reply because you'll be cooked.. Btw, I'll talk 'shit' about the topic that I work in for a living.. which is electrical/electronics..
How much power did you use? Make sure that two terminal of nichrome wire don't touch together. If everything ok, you can try to change the other nichrome wire
Destroy soldering iron, USB cable, a hard to find heavy gauge wire hanger and never borrow nor lend him, think it's male, unsure from cutout images, never lend anything to him/her... Such waste and how does the whole metal hanger and heating wire work??? They both conduct electricity, one better than the other. This is super unsafe, and could end up killing you dont do this people. PS it takes longer then 5 minutes to do what is done here. But regardless dont be stupid enough to try this ever. My dad works with stuff like this all the time and its freakign dangerous.
Even if you stick TWO WIRES into a residential wall outlet and grab the wires odds of you ending up dead. Electrocuted? Sure but it's not even that bad, 110 isn't going to kill people in most cases.

Que buenos alicates!! Lo cortan todo!!
Great project and tutorial. 👍👍👍
Thank you! I made one like this and it works really well!
+patrick ryan :)
Thanks to your video I was able to revive my old foam cutter and make it work with a USB cable 😊
Kiddo! you're so smart, I love your brain!
Very nice explan
Really very good 🥰👏
Very good!!!
Thanks, work for me. Just i had a broken soldering.
anyone else cringe when he used those flush cutters to cut the clothes hanger?
No but I did when he cracked open the soldiering iron... I mean he needed it again at the end to use as a soldering iron.... How many did he have on hand at home🤷
I had a flush cutter jaw snap off and rocket past my right eye when I cut a too-large cable years ago. @hoon8229 totally feel you.
Increíble, 100% espectacular 🤟🏻
Nice. Thanks for sharing.
😎
Did you seriously use scotch tape on a wire that’s going to get hot enough to cut foam? 🤦🏻♂️
Thank you!
Very cool
Your need is nichrome wire, battery, popsicle stick and wire.
Wow, you didn't have to destroy your soldering iron, you could have just gone to a home supply store and bought wire there. LOL
You can get a soldering iron from any dollar store. Most of the items here you can find at one.
Those are not wire cutters, they are flush cutters and you just ruined them by scoring a coat hanger with them.
That's right guy, you should use wire cutters for this job. Luckily, my coat hanger can be cut with flush cutters without ruining them.
+Just5mins Is the whole wire hanger not charged now as it appeared that you completed the circuit by connecting to the hanger? what I mean now if you touch the hanger you will get a shock.. or if the hanger accidentally hits metal object it will spark and short out.. no?

Why ruin a perfectly good soldering iron when you can easily use a strand of picture hanging wire.🤷🏻♂️
You could just use the soldering iron to cut the foam, couldn't you?
Nice👌😯
Great idea easy one I might sound silly would housing fuse wire work the same ? Can someone tell me please and thanks
No, you should use nichrome wire
I always new some people were stupid .Now with the help of youtube it,s on screen and everyone knows.
Do you get broken red lines under your typing?
@@drippingwax I guess he was talking about himself in his comments. How stupid!
Cool. But where to get heater wire without destroying my soldering iron?
Brilliant! How long does it take to warm up, and is soldering a must?
as soon as you plug :)

you can use vaporizer wire
It's a wire coat hanger. You probably have one in your closet.
What is the wire called pulled from the sodder tool? I'd like to make a 5 inch tool.
Soldering irons have nichrome wire.
Awsm poroject btw which song diid u use
Nice&Geekly
Wearing cstand to put earnings on
great !!!
So now you have to buy a new soldering iron
=))
you can buy nichrome wire instead of taking apart a soldering iron. They use nichrome wire in vapes. It is reasonably priced.
Assuming it was a working one to begin with.
Stainless steel wire will work...trouble is finding it thin enough.

its so good you have a very good hand
Would you please make a video of things that kids could make easily such as the grater
Wow...............
You’d be crazy to make this. You can buy a hand held hot wire cutter cheaper than a soldering iron. Really unsafe
Plus why destroy a soldering iron and a usb cable to cut a 3 inch piece? For $20 you can get a 10” inch hot wire cutter.
Can i use guitar wire instead ?
Yes, you can :)
And it's a hell of a lot cheaper than a soldering iron!
can i use a thinner nichrome wire which is also present in the bottom layer of soldering iron?
and can i power it with the battery 9v or double.?
could I possibly do the sane set up but with the micro usb end instead?
Yes. You can do it :)
+Just5mins but is it safe?
that is clever, have you diagram or sketch in details of wirings.
Simply, you connect two terminal (-)(Black wire) and (+)(Red wire) of USB cable to the two end of Nichrome Wire
from where you are buying motors, batteries ,etc
Hhahah malesori from kosova
the structure of al-12v does it work?
yess, it wworks :)
I've made it on my channel, check it :)
What is that thing he used? The wire that goes on the sticks?
I would NEVER make an unsafe circuitry like this and plug it to a power source (as in AC power). 9V battery "maybe" a safe way to do it. But, I am still dubious about all of this.
AC is far safer than DC.

Will I be able to cut thicker foam with this cutter ? Lets say 10-15cm thick ?
s3rg11 try it yourself, I’m pretty sure it will
ita normal wire or its some special/high ohm wire?
it's nichrome wire :)
is it safe?? i mean if u connect both end of a battery so battery could be explode.
what the wire you have used in cutting ?
nichrome wire, you can get it online or in toasters, hairdryers, and other electronics that heat up

you can use coper wire instead of nicrom

What material was the cutting wire?

do we use with copper wire
Nichrome wire. I ordered mine off Amazon.

can I use a cooper wire insted of that wire in the soldering machine?
