Great video and information i have used various products from smooth on and they are all really good quality...i was so engrossed watching i didn't miss the small message on the bottom of your sonite wax tin aswell..brilliant :D
when you get the sculpture out and you are talking about not having to deal with excess on one side because you only cut on one side of mold, am i wrong in thinking you will still have cleanup from the inner edges of the arms?
Great video. Thanks. Your sound could be better. Try to put a high pass filter (HPF) on the sound and remove all frequencies under 200hz. This would remove all the low rumble sounds. And maybe have an eq that takes away the ac noice. That would be great.
How is this product with moisture?? Is the cure affected by temperatures?? I’m trying to make a custom mold using a carcass. Taxidermy stuff...I use a two part polyurethane foam mix to make the forms. So would I be able to place the project back into the freezer while partial/full cures are taking place, so that the carcass doesn’t completely thaw/leak and possibly lose shape??
To mold a frozen piece, we would recommend Mold Max 30 silicone with Fast Cat 30 - www.smooth-on.com/tutorials/molding-casting-alligator-snapping-turtle/.
I made a project where I had tto use a glove mold to avoid seamlines and flashing, because the part didnt allow me to do any cleanup. The demolding was very diffecult, because the part was a long tubelike shape with a bigger diameter at the top. So I came up with a way to demold without adding stress to the mold material. I did an alteration to a pressure pot so I could put the mold into it and then add vacuum to it. This "inflated" the mold llike a balloon and I could remove the part just like picking it up from a table. Maybe some of you can use this idea to demold difficult parts.
I appreciate your innovative approach to demolding difficult parts! Thank you for your comment! When casting with resin, the type of resin used can vary depending on the specific project requirements. Smooth-On offers a variety of resins such as urethane resins, epoxy resins, and polyester resins for casting applications. Each resin type has unique properties and is suitable for different applications. It's essential to choose the right resin based on your project needs. Every material offers plusses and minuses. The advantage of using latex is low material cost. A disadvantage is the labor and time necessary to arrive at your finished mold. Brush on silicone or urethanes will get you a finished mold faster but are significantly more expensive.

Hi Barbara. The bubble helps make a registration key to let the halves of the rubber mold align properly.

Using a pigment designed to work with silicone rubber is important to ensure the rubber cures correctly.
