Action sequences are tough so having something where action is more constant would require more investment, but because this is SoL it makes it easier to go all in when there is an action sequence

Kobayashi's job is to decide when the fight is over. Fafnir would probably let them fight to desstruction. His job is pretty much just to be there to prevent Kobayashi from getting flattened by the force of their battle.
And risk getting obliterated by half the dragon world that would fight for Kobayashi because Tohru loves Kobayashi? No way. Too much of a bother for him.
I've never seen people go so hard in a comedy series to destroy a mid-2000's Windows Screensaver...

Every scene of every episode is smooth animation, not only on fights, their character acting animation, which is just as hard as doing fight animation, is just outstanding, the problem is that people only notice that an animation is great when it's fights and turns a blind eye for the rest.
Now knowing that Elma did all of this just so she can ask Tohru to be friends with her again shows how pure this anime can be
RIP to those who never got to see their duel become a reality.

I always thought Elma was one of the weaker dragons in terms of story. Everyone else has great character development and chemistry with the other characters, and then Elma was just kinda there eating stuff. But this episode completely changed that for me. Her character development in this episode alone was absolutely phenomenal. Now she’s one of my favorite characters in the whole series. Great character development and absolutely breathtaking animation. The animators and the writers deserve a pat on the back for this episode man.

Elma is best girl. She is amazing and powerful as well. A foodie to boot. Incredibly wholesome and just a great person. Also she looks amazing in those casual clothes she wears. Is there anything more to say?

KyoAni is simply flexing their animation talents here and everytime they do that, my jaw drops to the floor at how beautiful it looks. The second part of their fight here is season defining animation quality, that's for sure! =3
this is what happens when a studio lets their animators have some fun and gives them the time to make it perfect. it does help however that this show is mostly slice of life which isnt that hard to anime, thats why the show has been so super fluid in animation quality
@@solar7427 Indeed. It does help that viewers who come in expecting nothing but the slice-of-life goodness get caught off-guard by stunning fight scenes like this. It's another reason why I love KyoAni and their talent. ^_^

Frankly, I’m kind of glad that Elma’s taken center stage throughout this episode. It’s kind of awesome, if you think about it. It’s as if she’s finally stepping out of being a BG Character for just one episode.
This is the best animated fight scene of the year... this is a slice of life anime
They'll never admit it, but Tohru and Elma are really becoming friends.
I think they were already friends in a way from their past they just had a "girls disagreement" you know the kind that lasts for years resulting in backstabbing, verbal altercations, possible physical altercations, then culminating in questioning why they were fighting and someone ending up as a maid of honor at one of the twos wedding

Let's call the second season of this anime for what it is, KyoAni is back. What happened that day was awful and many talented lives were lost but I sincerely feel like this second season is an homage and paid respects by having the same quality we always loved. This is the ultimate respect, a burden and they have done it wonderfully.
I swear the studio regenerated like a damn time lord.
So their definition of "rusty" is creating volcanic eruptions and splitting the continent....damn they have to keep reminding us that these dragons don't mess around.
There are things you can do.
And then there are things like making a dragon really angry.
Humans in there world can do that too so its just koboyashi type humans lol
Dragons in this show are basically gods
One of the best power showcases I’ve ever seen in any anime. Their attacks have power and weight to them; they’re obliterating massive sections of the earth and you can feel every energy blast, every strike they use to do so. The part where Elma free falls underneath the surface gives you the sensation of speed and acceleration, like the gravity is exerting a force on her that increases exponentially with every passing millisecond.
The fight scenes in this show are so colorful and on par with some of the best around and this just some slice of life, humor anime.

KyoAni are just flexing at this point. This has better animation than most Shounen anime series out there! Pretty impressive for a "slice of life" show.

To think a show about a dragon maid would have that far better of a fight animation than some shounen shows (looking at you SDS). Dare I say its up there with ufotable.
Kyoani is better than ufotable because character animation is also top notch.

Kyoani es un buen estudio pero le falta llegar al nivel de cgi, efectos visuales, cámara,color, backgrounds etc... Para que llegue al nivel de ufotable pero si es un estudio increíble apesar de su tragedia no perdieron calidad siempre impresiona kyoani❤️

Remember when Tohru punched Elma for no reason? I laughed when I first saw that scene, but after seeing how Elma can totally back up her claim that she’s Tohru’s equal…..now I realize how much of a *CHAD* (what’s the female equivalent?) Elma was for not punching Tohru back!
Elma is of the harmony faction so it can be said that she refrains from using violence unless it is warranted. She can take a hit and is big enough not to hit back. But if Tohru for example ever truly wished to destroy humanity {we know she won't but a what if) I am sure Elma will stop her, violently if necessary.
They don't have battles very often in this series, but by god when they do it's worth it.
The way Fafnir protects Kobayashi from the rocks.. Such character growth
Damn shame that more action anime doesn’t allow for this level of animation. So many shows would be so better with it.
It honestly really comes down to time, budget, treatment of staff, and the approach the studio and directors take things.
It’s lucky that all the puzzle pieces fell into the right spot for this one.
Already loved Elma, but after this episode, how could you not love Elma?

People who've never seen Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S are going to get a completely different show than they expected if they see this, but they will absolutely not be disappointed in it if they watch it
From the opening to the comedy and the interaction with each characters and the fight from episode one till now the wait was so worth it
The BEST second fight in a series that have more cool fightings than a lot of battle Animes. The first one is the first episode of S2, indeed best season to have the right to become best Anime of 2021

Maid dragon, an anime that can be lewd one moment, then heartwarming on the next, then do a 180 in awesome animation.
I'd like more aniime to have fights like this that do not last for godzillions episodes. Lots of character and world building and once in a while a fight. There is more meaning in this fight than in so many others.
I love how the fights is more so a plus to how good the story telling can be here

This is the best fight in the anime by far. The somnoplasty in the stuffy and explosive sounds and the animation is jusy incredible. The episode itself was the best of the second season by far.
Smoothest animation I've seen this year. Kyoani keeps doing their good job after all.

@@samplingmastersxlr8660 There are, but there are just as many that the dragons would crush if they went all out. Don't forget that Tohru has said she could casually destroy the world if she wanted to, and seeing as Elma and Fafnir are almost as powerful, it wouldn't even be hard in some cases.

Despite Elma being the subject of many jokes, its good to see that she still is a real fighter. Times have changed but she still is a mighty dragon.
Don't underestimate her ability to learn coding and management fast. The latter however she cheated with some Clairvoyance magic.

It's after seeing this fight that you realize Tohru wasn't kidding back in season one when she said the battle she was having with Kanna was just a little light roughhousing.
