- Bulgarian soprano Alexandrina Pendatchanska sings difficult aria from Massenet's Esclarmonde, at 22 years old! Live from Teatro Regio di Turin, 1992.
Alexandrina Pendatchanska (soprano) - Esclarmonde
Nicle Bandera (mezzo-soprano) - Párseis
A very unique artist and voice! Fabulous technique!!
To sound like this in a hall with such dry acoustics is incredible
Fabulous!!! She is divine! :D This is truly a hell of an aria. I have attempted it myself. Now I want to try again! What an inspiration! :D
Amazing voice! Always liked her!
Cette voix, comme à bout de nerf et malgrés des aigus au vibrato trop présent et tendu, donne le meilleur d'elle même dans cet exercice périlleux. La vivacité des piqués est remarquable!
Amazing, and it's all more impressive considering that she sang the opera at 22, (I probably wouldn't even be allowed past Verdi at that age)
The best Esclarmonde
Very exciting!
My goodness the talent
Brava girl, this was awesome!
+william bondar Actually, the D6 was not bad. But if you compare it to Sutherland's impeccable D6, no comparison.
+Vette gaddia Greetings, Why would you want to compare it to anybody, at 22 this was good. Just enjoy singing......
A lot of talk about "balls" on this comment page...
Do you people seriously think all it takes is a pair of balls in order to make this come about??
I haven't heard such an awesome crescendo on high D by the famoussest exponents of the piece...
Maravillosa
Impressive
I guess. It doesn't bother me so much since she clearly has the voice and balls to sing the other 95% or so of it very well. :D
Well she had balls
yeah but better screamy then from the throat.
Don't like the fast vibrato and the tight, almost-out-of-control sound of the high Ds.
vocalissimo1 That is what I like! Makes her one of a kind and the timbre is truly unique!
Ugly is not unique. It is merely ugly.
@@moirbasso7051 we've been conditioned to love boring aka Sutherland who a gorgeous voice, but boring dramatically then on the opposite extreme we have Netrebko who has a wobble so big that you drive a semi through it! No. ALEXANDRA is exciting, just the kind of vocal heft needed to get through this hellish role! Pavarotti called singing opera educated yelling!
@@clefnoteproductions6695 Pavarotti was one of those singers who couldn't teach what he knew- he was an 'idiot savant' in some ways- phenomenal voice, little intellect. I've known quite a few singers like that. I'm a pedagogue as well as a performer; an academic as well as an artist. Healthy vocalism comes before 'drama' any day. I never found Sutherland boring when I was on stage singing with her; she was a thinking but genuine artist. But, then again, so was Callas. Brains and heart- It's a balance.

So it's an ugly timbre?
LOL
The high notes aren't too easy, but they're definitely there, and very full.
Amazing performance!
But Joan do better!
Thought it was me alone. Sounds screamy. Everything but the high notes are just great though.
