thanks for sharing if it were not for you then i would not be able to listen to her i was watching the phil ochs there but for fortune and her name came up so i thought i would give a listen much thanks
+folkmusicgirl Hi: Your message reads, "Sorry, I only understand English" etc.My message IS in English about folk singer, Bonnie Dobson.Bonnie Dobson sang this song too and it is on UA-cam under her name, Bonnie Dobson, "Love Henry."
It is in fact! In a way-both are versions of a very very old folk song that's also known as Young Hunting: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_Hunting Nick Cave's version features a bit of a unique composition, whereas Henske's is much closer in tune to a lot of the song's classic Appalachian folk iterations.
You are definitly right. If you play it at 0.888x speed it sounds correct (you can do so with programs like Audacity). There's another version on YT. Go and search for "Judy Henske - Love Henry (with intro)". That appears to have the correct speed ua-cam.com/video/TB5SBpyFKDw/v-deo.html
By whatever means, she has sung this in a higher pitch and more cutting tones to bring out the cold fury of the narrator. I'd also say Henry was asking for it.
Something weird here. I have the original album (in both vinyl and cd) "Judy Henske" on which she sings Love Henry. I'm listening to it as I type this. And sure enough this post sounds speeded up. (Plus, where's the comedy intro?). I appreciate the posting, but am curious about it. FraeuleinSchneeweisz, are you sure it's from that album? Do you have any more information? Thanks.
this version is probably the version from silver mt. zion's mixtape that theyve uploaded onto the internet several years ago among other punk-rock songs.
Just heard the sad news today, April 30, 2022 that Judy Henske has passed away in Los Angeles, California RIP Judy.
😢
I love her and all her music!!!
This sounds sped up, her voice is usually deeper , but again, this recording is pretty early on.
This is so haunting and beautiful
Mom had this record and I grew up singing this song.
She's a milestone in my early musical journey. Powerful and visceral, that was Judy.
I have never heard of her but I love her! Her version of Wade in the Water gives me chills!
Rose The first time i ever heard Judy Henske was singing Wade in the Water in the film Hootenanny Hoot... Amazing!
15chipshops You are a lucky person to have heard her!
15chipshops You are very fortunate!
Doesn't it though! Same feeling myself!

I miss you, Judy.
R.I.P. Miss Judy. So happy i still have your email from about 10 years ago.
Thank you, Andrew Vachss, for hinting at Magic Judy Henske in your works!
This is totally the only reason I came here also.
I just discovered this fine singer after seeing her in "Hootennany Hoot" last week on Turner Classic Movies.
I love the voice and the song thanks
Superb!
Love Judy !!
I like all song of Judy Henske! And her Style of music!
Judy Henske is still recording and her new songs are just as good as the old ones.
❤

jast wonderful a true artist
It's from the Judy Henske album of name, and it had a fabulous, and hilarious intro. A great album

Canadian folk singer from the 1960's named Bonnie Dobson also recorded this song.
Bonnie's version also very nice!
+folkmusicgirl c'est d'une tristesse Bonnie Dobson !
+MultiMoi57 Hi: Sorry, I only understand English so I don't know what your message says about Bonnie Dobson.
+folkmusicgirl So did Peggy seeger

Sounds like its the basis for the Nick Cave song Henry Lee, which he described as having its origins in Scotland.

@@matthewstoker5601 Interesting, thanks for that. Checked out some of the other versions.
Not sped up - sorry folks. It's on her Album "Judy Henske". Giggles and all.
Yes, it's on her album "Judy Henske" - at the correct speed. This is OFF.
@AdamHeilbrun I think it is her version but like the other commenter said, it's been sped up and turned her into a soprano.
..... hasn't ANYBODY noticed that this is not played at the correct speed? Probably an LP played at 45 RPM !
I don't know about that, but I noticed that Judy started singing at the wrong moment.
i thought maybe a live version when she was younger, but i believe you are correct! lol

the speed of the track is too fast. She's singing in a higher pitch than the album was recorded
By whatever means, she has sung this in a higher pitch and more cutting tones to bring out the cold fury of the narrator. I'd also say Henry was asking for it.
Where can I find the ballad of seymour cray by this singer ?

How many times can you listen to the dopey comedy intro - it's that nonsense that detracted from her talents as a singer.
your record player was set to a higher speed then the song was recorded at. her voice is about an octave lower.
she died in May, never heard of her before
Judy Henske did record this song. But this isn't it.
Makes me think of Jacques Brel
The pitch is too high. Has this been sped up? Doesn’t sound like Judy
How did they manage to record this at the wrong speed? It's about 15% too fast and sounds completely wrong. Judy is NOT a chipmunk.
A version to give Cave and Harvey's duet a run for its money. (Figuratively - obviously their version was more lucrative.)
this is live.
I found your video and loved this song so much I decided to make an acoustic cover. Feel free to check it out. I hope you like it.
brainless german said great song great special voice,,
i actually like that its too fast and on a higher pitch
Sure sounds a lot like Carolyn Hester, to me. And she used to record with Dylan, way, way back in the day.
Yes the voice quality is very different. This isn't her. Its sung by someone else.
Oh, it's her, just recorded at the wrong speed - possibly 45 instead of the correct 33-1/3rpm.
DEFINITELY sped up!!!!
Please, get the speed right. This sounds like Judy is 12
At least we don't have to wade through that not so little comedy skit to get to the song.
@@rvcrvc2 Yeah, god forbid you should wear out your finger on "skip" or "fast forward."
