As near perfect as a song can get...
Smooth.
This guy was a musical genius ❤
Still is.
Perfect description
Well he came home from the war
with a party in his head
and modified Brougham DeVille
and a pair of legs that opened up
like butterfly wings
and a mad dog that wouldn't
sit still
he went and took up with a Salvation Army
Band girl
who played dirty water
from a swordfishtrombone
he went to sleep at the bottom of
Tenkiller lake
and he said "gee, but it's
great to be home."
Well he came home from the war
with a party in his head
and an idea for a fireworks display
and he knew that he'd be ready with
a stainless steel machete
and a half a pint of Ballentine's
each day
and he holed up in room above a hardware store
cryin' nothing there but Hollywood tears
and he put a spell on some
poor little Crutchfield girl
and stayed like that for 27 years
Well he packed up all his
expectations he lit out for California
with a flyswatter banjo on his knee
with a lucky tiger in his angel hair
and benzedrine for getting there
they found him in a eucalyptus tree
lieutenant got him a canary bird
and skanked her head with every word
and Chesterfielded moonbeams in a song
and he got 20 years for lovin' her
from some Oklahoma governor
said everything this Doughboy
does is wrong
Now some say he's doing
the obituary mambo
and some say he's hanging on the wall
perhaps this yarn's the only thing
that holds this man together
some say he was never here at all
Some say they saw him down in
Birmingham, sleeping in a
boxcar going by
and if you think that you can tell a bigger tale
I swear to God you'd have to tell a lie...
I love when folks post lyrics to Tom,s songs. Thanks bud !
¡Gracias! From, some place in Sonora desert. Thanks.
Thanks for the lyrics for it is nice to see that picture without the help of the music, and guess what, it has worked out fine since it is a very beautiful song like many other ones from the ' artist '.
LRyrics:
Rub a dub WAAAAAARRRRRR
thank you :-)
This song is so addictive. Love the instrumentation and how damn groovy it sounds. And Tom's wails at the end are the icing on the cake.
A sublime masterpiece. I've been 'breaking my own heart' playing sad songs, but then I move to Tom. He makes you stare into another place.
One of Tom's finest moments
First time I remember hearing this I was 4 lol raised on Tom waits and frank zappa... for some reason this song scared the shit out of toddler me
Heart breaking. Tom is on another level completely.
Well, people throw the word "original" around a lot but here, it really belongs......Tom W. IS one of a kind and a
person has to wonder, does our world need more like him or is one just right??? I am inclined to believe that
there can only be one and any imitators would be ignored.......
Oh god, this takes me back...still sounds sublime.
The perfect song to start a revolution of words in a catacomb of terms. One of my favourites...
That's a felicitous phrase, congrats.
@Pyra it took me a minute, but lmao now!
I'm gonna make you my, baybeh! ooooo! Im michael mcdonald! Ooooooo! wash your hair in front me, NOW! Get on the damn train before it's toooooo LATE!!!! hehehe I'm only kidding, in a jokey ju ju senseQ! I've had a bottle of Ballantines Scotch Whisky for a very long time. Every once in a while I'll take a shot and listen to this song.
Wow!!! Waits was EPIC in my youth ❤️ I could write a book about his influence in the 90’s in Seattle
Love this fucking album.
I can due no justice to how great this is
Tom is a legend
I am officially stuck in the 90’s watching Big Time at Rialto and dancing flamenco to Tom Waits 💃
Tom Waits-always great
I've got this tune on half my Playlists. It's amazing how many genres it fits with!
2:42 the mood for the last year a half
This one is so Great!!!!!! Oh!!!!!! Yea!!!!!!!
Love the scream at the end
thank s a lot for your mix, I love, with Tom waits and every all
100% Excellent!!!
this is so good
Whenever I listen to this song I fantazie about a PI show or Game having this as as theme song. Imagine a true detective season with this banger as a theme song, am i the only?
On it 😀
I lived an a very crummy apartment with the three guys on the album cover, minus the tuba. We spent hours and hours smoking weed and drinking Czech beer and playing Texas hold-em for very small sums of money. Aside from the bedbugs and the cockroaches, it was a wonderful place.
Gee,
But it's great to be back home...
The visuals....
Gee but it's great to be home. Thanks Tom Waits
This really sounds like a swordfishtrombone
Got twenty years for lovin her from some Oklahoma governor may be the coolest lyric ever
Capolavoro assolutooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Un italiano che ascolta Tom waits, siamo in pochi, eh
Beautiful fretless bass. 👌
masterpiece
Bass line reminds me of Kate Bush’s “All the Love.”
She must have taken it from this song!
no dislikes the way it should be
Sadly , 3 now. Philistines!
@@Pop3y3Cahn you wouldn't believe it if you didn't see it but there's now no dislikes! Nature heals!
2:06 that allways gives me the chills
just bought it online ohhhh yeahhhhhhh
This song is like eating salad with your bare hands
Went and took up with a salvation army band...girl
.
Hard to believe this album was released on def jam 😄
*Island
The star is the xylophone for me.

I may never understand the story ,but if you think that you can tell a bigger tale I swear to god you'll have to tell a lie.

For a moment i thought i was playing croc 2
sounds like a pikmin 2 dungeon track in the beginning

Elevator music for champions

VERY
This song sounds like apple cider vinegar tastes
Woohoo, what a ride
If drugs had a soundtrack....well....THIS IS!!! I love this guy!
DIO
I hope this doesn't ruin the song, but it almost reminds me of "Be Prepared" with Scar from The Lion King lol
Everytime my wife gives me shit I say,,,,everything this old boy does is wrong,,lmfao
