.le quedó Muy bien su puerta maestro.

@samadipants
Thanks for looking and comment. It gets confusing when we talk about redwood. In the UK timber trade it's a general term covering PINE, where the heartwood is often red in colour. In the USA (I think) "Redwood" is a common name for the SEQUOIA . Have you tried making use of any you have growing? I'm just starting out with logging and timber milling, larch, oak, beech and sycamore.
@agbagb123 Just use a brad nailer and shoot the nail with the grain direction, easy to patch-up and it will hold well, you can reinforce it with a tap of glue on the center this way it will not interfer with the wood movement. Nice work any way.
First class!
Thank you!
I am making a front door in oak. I want to varnish rather than paint at the end. Should I seal and varnish the panels before gluing in place. Do I need to worry about the air gaps around the panels for water tightness (rain-proofing)? Similarly if this were an internal fire door?
Cheers Chris
Excelent aporte... mil gracias
thank you very much
A great series, thanks for taking the time to share it👍
Hey man that really helped, this video is 14 years old, I am watching it in 2024! Love it, simply love it. I do have a question or two...
1. What is acrylic sealant, any company that I can look up and order from?
2. Can we avoid glue on the back for the mouldings? so incase a panel needs to be replaced, we can pry open the moulding and replace them with new ones? That's something that I have seen in glass paneled doors/windows with mullions/muntins.
Would appreciate any reply :)
Cheers
Hi, Now you are making me feel old. Just to note That door is still doing well and just having it's first repaint. The acrylic sealant is widely available in the UK, generically called frame sealant commonly used around door frames and windows. Yes the beading holding the panels in can be pinned (nailed) or even screwed on. However if you have built it well you shouldn't have to replace the panels (not in my life time anyway). Unlike glass it is highly unlikely to get broken.
@@idostuffcouk Hey man, lovely to get a reply from you!! Thank you so much :)

Thanks.
@telosfd I could use a nail gun but the nail heads do need to be hidden so flat head nails would be no good. I have got a brad nailer but the beads are very small and I wanted something more substantial.
Loker👍
Lok on the internet 96 Westwood drive Mt.Kisco NY . This whole house was gutted then I demolished 2/3 rds of it . The woodwork was from 1906 still intact is some rooms . When done the house will be around $80 million. Thanks for the very informing video
Dam your channel shud be much bigger . Outstanding work and details many thanks Darren
Thanks for watching, It's graet to know you think they are good. There is a extra information relating to the door build on the website -idostuff.co.uk- including the cutter sequence I used for the mouldings. Cheers Andy
How do you remove the bearing off the router bit, as you mentioned for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th bits you used? I would like to make this moulding as soon as possible for my vanity cabinet project. Yes, I have seen the raise panel cutting video. Thanks.
The bearings on mine are held on with small setscrews with hex socket heads (allen key).
Very impressive work
Quick question what’s the width and the thickness off the moulding
Thank you
Excellent series of videos; clear no nonsense and informative. Much better and far more practical than some of the 'celebrity' woodworker product plugging hype that on been shown else ware.
Be nice if you could do a few casement windows too.
Just so you know, the moldings you've made that sit above the frame are called "bolection" moldings. I offer this in case you're a fan of woodworking terminology. Great videos. Thanks.
@driepintenbier, Thanks.
It's PU (polyurathane adhesive) expands slightly as it cures.
Brilliant video.
I am a novice woodworker from Norway, and have posphoned making my own door for the shop. But now i was deeply innspired.
I will make my own during the christmas hollidays.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers, it's good to know people (all over the world) find the details helpful.

@morturn , Thanks for your comment it's good to know I'm putting up information folk appreciate. I have no plans for casement windows BUT Sliding sash "double hung" windows are in the pipeline.
Awesome vids ! Thanks for sharing.
@SuperBlundy You got me there! I hang my head in shame.
Wow that was quite impressive. Loved the detail ok the mouldings and quality of work. Outstanding.
Six minutes packed full of useful information and amazing demonstrations of skill. Thank you very much. I make moldings (one day, maybe, like yours, because they can't be bought where I live. Having someone share true craftsmanship inspires.......
Thank you Mary, I'm happy to be able to provide some inspiration.
As a former high-end millworker in America, I have to say you're a very skilled man.
I search for videos that have genuine millwork (as I used to do), but come up short every time. Nothing but high talk and no balls/skills.
;-)
Thanks Jim.
Que buen video.y que ingenio y destreza para hacer molduras
Thanks for watching and the comments, Cheers.
Me gusto su trabajo. I like the way as you work the wood. From Cali, Colombia.

Excellent series on the door fabrication; beautiful result !
Good video mate, liked your one on cutting the pockets in pully stiles on sash windows as well :)
Thanks Samywammy, When I get chance I'll have to edit the footage and post some more recent projects. One on mending rotten sash windows is in the pipeline.

Last year I made this moulding according to this video. It turned out fabulous. I did change the order of cuts as I did not use a featherboard on my router table. I completed the round over before I cut waste with the table saw. I think it was 6 steps to cut the profile. I knew the profile I wanted but agonized somewhat until I found this video.
Cheers glad you found it useful.

i didn't see you add water to the other side of the adhesive ? !;-)
nice door !!;-)Thankyou
Plenty of moisture in the timber to effect curing. Extra water not required unless the timber is bone dry. Cheers.
That’s a beautiful door!
That is one well built door that should withstand the test of time. Thanks for sharing!

Excellent video. Can you post more videos on how to create fancy molding using basic router bits? It can save DIYErs with limited budget from buying expensive bits. Thank you.
Have you see the raised panel cutting video?
