I met Tyler at a Brian Setzer Christmas show in Jacksonville Fl. I recognized him and said hello. He couldn’t have been a cooler cat. He gave me 2 of Brian’s picks. Keep helping it swing Tyler…
Great show in AC, NJ 8/16/24 - he played the 1960 the whole show! no switching, no fuss, no muss, didn't even have to tune it once...even with the Bigsby!! Killer tone all night long -- The man is a MASTER!!
Brian’s playing is forever timeless and classic. It’s amazing to see his constant use and collaboration with Gretsch! What an amazing and tasteful player and artist!
I saw them that night. They were tight and solid! Brian's voice is still awesome not to mention Lee Rocker too! Such a great band and had a great time. Slim Jim looks the same like yesterday! Get to see these guys if you can, they put on a hell of a show!
Great video. I've been a Stray Cats fan since the early 80's and it's why I own so many Gretsch hollow body guitars today. They're fantastic players with amazing tone. Even after 40 plus years, Brian continues to be my favorite guitarist of all time.
I just went to the show in Moorhead, MN (Fargo, ND) last night. I noticed that he used his primary guitar the entire show. I didn't see one guitar swap, and he never stopped once to tune. I was thinking what a great testament to the quality of his guitar that was that he didn't need to constantly swap them out to get tuned like most rockers do. It sounded great the entire show.
I’ve heard his techs say that’s also partly down to Brian’s touch with the guitars. He plays so well that even when he looks like he’s playing rough he’s gentle on his instrument.
He swapped to the magenta for one song during the Aug 3rd gig in San Diego (can't remember which tho!) If you listen to Rocked This Town LA From to London, at the end of "I Won't Stand in Your Way", he says "I'm gonna play a fast song so I need the purple guitar".... I got my 6120 Setzer 'Smoke' signed at the show!!!!
Have always been a Stray Cats and Brian Setzer fan since Built for Speed was released (still have my original album). I had the pleasure of meeting Brian after a show in Cleveland! He put on a great show and still does. Just wish my schedule worked with the timing of the recent tour. Fingers crossed for the next tour OR his show at Christmas. In the meantime, I’ll console myself with my Gretsch guitars 😍.
Great video. If you notice Brian is now playing with his cab facing away from him. Pretty sure this is due to his tinnitus. He played with it facing towards the crowd on his last solo tour which I got to see here in Feb. of 2024. I got to get really close to him, and he plays pretty loud. It was great to listen to. Even got to talk with Tyler after the show (PHX). We both hail from Massachusetts.
Brian is a Gretsch hero, but he has also been endorsed by guild and played guilds. He also played a Stratocaster with the bloodless pharaohs and I’ve seen him play Gibson jazz boxed.
Very nice to see still how enthusiastic you are and how you love your job!! I am also sure you and Brian are very close friends, the one who's doing this work basically a right hand of the player. A very lucky man. 🙂👌🏻👍🏻 If I may say stg personal. I had a luck to know and met a few times with Carl Nielsen. He was Jimmy Page's guitar engineer and a close friend. I bought a Firebird (only a Tokai but she became my most beloved, most important guitar, these days she worth a pretty nice sum of money, similar to a basic Gibson.) from his shop the Rockbottom Croydon. He was working with Jimi, Marc Bolan, Bonnie Raitt, Lenny Kravitz, Brian Adams, the Status Quo and many huge names, so he is a Giant and a stadium size concert guitarist on his own right. He has the most valuabe amp-collection, hundreds of historical ones, Jimi-Marshalls, Pink Floyd's Hiwatts, Sabbath Laneys and many-many more. The point is: he has immense knowledge and overall view of everything's in this business, yet he is so humble, so nice with a level of humanity that made me respect him immensly, a godlike human being in my eyes. Also, I was broke so I paid the guitar in parts weekly, 100£ or sometimes even only just 50. Yet he let away from the price some two hundred £, also one or two week later then the actual time counted into the deal the black Friday discount! He gave me a bass guitar case (-the Firebird-size is big really) and two handful of picks for free, let me make photos with him, and every each times when I brought the weekly parts of the payment let me play on the guitar an hour before closing.Showed me many of his old photos from the big times, told me stories and everything... Somehow he knew what I am in, currently a totally broke but real, lifetime player and he came down to my poor level as some kind of a mentor. I never felt the misery that I went through that time, I was a truly happy man in his and the staff's company in the shop. These things can make a man himself again, giving back his dignity and self-respect. So Thank you guys for the incredible job you do and please forgive me this 'War and peace-long' elegy. 🙂😊. 💜👌🏻👍🏻
I agree Brian the guitars and amps of today just don't have the tone it seemed the manufacturers back then had better quality control and CARED about the tone of their instrument today it's all about how fast it can be manufactured!
Man, fellow bedroom rockstars, Imagine what it would be like to pick up your fav guitar and "nah...not quite right...somethings off" so you just hand it to your tech and yuuou pick up your number 2 guitar to jam. Then like magic, your main is fixed. Thats the stuff dreams are made of man lol
Brian turns the amp speaker around, pointing backwards, so he can crank the amp without getting big stage volume. He has damaged his hearing and has to be careful.
im an extreme metal guitarist. 7 string, multiscale, Drop G..... But in my secret time....I bust out my 80 dollar amazon strat I did up, and I try to play like Brian and Roy Clark, BUck Owens, and John 5.
Can’t afford a US made but I’m hopeful to pick up a Korean this weekend if everything goes well will be my first Gretsch after playing 40 + years Brian’s playing is something to aspire to got the DVDs if I practice for another 40yrs may just get it sounding something close 😢
Brian has been my absolute hero since the very early 80s. I love that he and the Cats are still rockin'!!
Thank you Gretsch for your videos! This could be a series with other artists.

Brian is lucky to have you Tyler!! You hear that Brian :) :) This guys heart is gold.

Tyler, you got one of the best jobs on the planet. Fantastic stuff.😊
Best wishes from Scotland 🏴.

Brian Setzer is one of my guitar heroes and the reason I want a Gretsch! It's cool ge can relate with Eddie Cochran (who I also love!)

I was this show and it was AMAZING! Thank you Start Cats and a thank you to the amazing team that makes it happen !
Brian Setzer&Gretsch Guitar is unforgettable combination! I always Love it. And Stray Cats is my Favorite band. Since 1981...😎👍🎶💕
So as expected Brian's rig hasn't changed for over 30 years. No need. It's perfect for his great act :)
My late grandfather had a Blackhawk and I LOVED playing it. One of these days I'll find one for myself.

Awesome..keep well guys .
I saw this tour in Mountain View and it was awesome!
Incredible ❤
The Brian Setzer with a Fender amp that is the sound!
I do with a budget guitar a G5421, but hey I am not Brian Setzer 😅
All good, I have two 5120s and I'm nowhere near as close to Setzer
@@neubergermj Enjoy your guitar!
Cant wait for the NYC rooftop show!
How does Brian move around so much with the gretch...Its like lugging round a piece o furniture.
What a great band you guys are...
They are lighter than any Les Paul..... lol.....
They are a hollow body guitar so they’re actually pretty light
Beautiful..
Slowly folks are coming around to Gretsch guitars. I have two and they are great guitars 🎸
gorgeous!!!

Aren’t those all Japanese reproductions?
In 2025 I will have owned and played Gretsch guitars for 40 years. Have 3 Hot Rods in my 10 Gretsch collection which I use live and at home.
Brian can play!!
Best in the biz tyler sweet
That sparkle coolant green hollow body is my dream guitar. Will I ever play it as good as him? Hell no. But I'll look great trying damn it.
Magnifique !
He played one guitar when I saw him in Denver.
Anybody know what strap he's using?
グレッチは高くて貯めて買います。オレンジか青とかシルバーがいいかな

Saw Brian play a Guild once.
I really like this video, I have an interesting question about which guitar strings can be used on this guitar?
He uses D’addario 10-46.
man, I run 7's.lol😊
I’ve been using DR 11’s for the last 15 years or so
Yeah, I use Daddario 0.11s too on my 6120
@@jonathansteadman7935 Setzer used 11's on that Truimph blackie on the Brixton tour (the scale length is longer).
What speakers does he use in the amps? Brand and ohms? Anyone?
2x12" Celestion Vintage 30s 8ohm
@@Detroitiron many thanks for letting me know

Jim Heath?
What about him? The rev plays Gretsch too
My ears are telling my eyes to catch up.
man, is it a sin that I want to put Gretsch knobs and a switch tip on my Schecter? THey just look so heavy and tough and tank like
*Guitar is bigger ... **_than he is. Me too._*

日本製でもグレッチって何か悲しい
Those luthiers in Japan are master builders.
@@jk-76 絶対音感的には、そうなんですが、グレッチの良さは癖のある音なので生真面目な日本人が製作するとグレッチの個性が消えてしまいます。

Cool hardware, but what annoying video/audio production here. Maybe just let the tech talk about the gear?
