Two strokes are STUPID amounts of fun to ride and never get old. I have a 2017 YZ250X and just installed a Lectron carb. I'll be keeping that bike until the frame disintegrates.
Actually, the mechanic 2-stroke rider is pretty good on it,---but if he would go into the corners a gear higher he will cut down lap times. It would force him to go into the corner faster so he does not bog coming out, and he will be more full throttle and controlling the power with the clutch more. It is easier to bog the corner exit, but if you can avoid that, that is what makes you go faster. You shift one less time coming into the corner, (I brake with no clutch while down shifting for a corner so I know what RPM I am at for the exit.), and one less time coming out of the corner. The technique was developed by Kent Howerton, and discovered by his competition who was watching him, trying to figure out why his under powered Husky was passing them out of the corners. it was then adopted by every pro on the planet racing 2-strokes. It is called, "Clutching it".
Great job Rado! This is the big hype bike for 2022 so far. It and the Honda CRF250R. Both look sweet but I'm really digging the YZ. Thanks for the review brother! Could my four strokes be heading to Craigslist? We'll see...lol
Hi Rado, maybe you can make short video about how set up rear suspension (sag) before first ride. It would be great to see some explanation and step from your side...

As long as you "don't know", you are free to believe what ever you want. I have the 2019 model, and I am the only person here who will tell you what is wrong with it. It is too damn tall to start with. You get used to it with crappy corner speed, and dead stop tip overs, I will not. I lowered my seat 1", (which you may not be above to do with this new, and taller seat.), and took off 6.35% of suspension travel at both ends, (about .75 inches). The jetting is very rich, (typical really for a carbed 2-stroke off the floor,--but not many know how to get that 2hp back). The power is really soft off the bottom and in the mid range, but revs good like a 125. I will fix that too, (rider preference really) with higher compression, a new reed vale, and a head mod I am working on, (I port/stroke 2-stroke engines for a living). I am heavier now, so I did not expect the bike to have the suspension springs I need, byt my 2019 was the worst set up 250cc MX bike I ever bought off the showroom floor. I have never had to do so much work to a bike---to get it "ride-able". Stock, it was sky scrapper tall with a front end down posture that felt like it could wash out the front wheel in a straight line of a loose dirt road. If you are under 5'11" tall and get this bike. Send it to me and I will fix it for you, so you can get maximum enjoyment from your riding. Now MXA used to be a very good MX mag. If you read their tests, you knew what you were going to buy. This bike was a total surprise. I know how to make it perfect though. :)
@@herrion2412 that's not true. Smart carbs are know to have a better bottom end and takes a stock throttle cable, on the fly adjustable and the slides don't wear out. I know of several people who have dumped their lectron for a smart carb and have been happy they did
It only causes extra weight and it can break, battery is dead after the bike has been sitting for a while. Really not needed on a 250 2 stroke. Keep it simple and reliable.
Because its a 2 stroke, your that lazy to kick it "1" time, maybe 2 cold start, and maintain a battery and buy a new one after a few years and add the extra weight and the starter can fail down the road or the cables can corrode and have to clean, OR You Can Just Kick It Like All 2 Stroke's !!!
yes, powerband has more connection to the ground, feel little more 4stroky.. its the airbox design that allows more airflow and changes the characteristics of the power delivery.. I liked it, doesnt get crazy when getting on the pipe and has better roll-on power
Not a good idea. I grew up buying my own and riding dirt bikes, and we started out small. It can be easy for a pretty good rider to take their skills for granted and say it is fine. But IMO, I am sure I would have gotten hurt more by starting out with a MX racing bike. The important part is getting something that he is not scared of, even if he will out grow it in a year. That experience will transfer better to a faster bike with some experience under his belt. My 3rd bike in 78 was a YZ100 at 14 years old. I remember my neighbors telling me "You can't handle that bike",---and they were almost right.
@@EarthSurferUSA wow! Thanks for your info, really appreciate it… I am looking for a good dune bike and have heard that 125 smokers are just weak there, what is a good dune bike for me?
That's OK. I lowered mine to a normal rider height, and cut in my own side plate hole to grab under the top rail of the sub frame, (under the seat), so I can lift it on the stand, that I also lowered. I got tired of grabbing the lower rail sub frame and accidentally grabbing/touching the hot pipe. The bikes are too tall for anybody under 5'11" tall. There is no rational reason why the 2-strokes got as tall as a 4-stroke has to be. But maybe the reasoning is the same as making a 4-stroke engine faster, and not allowing 2-strokes to overbore to keep up. Somebody does not want you to have an advantage on a 2-stroke,---and a tall bike is a disadvantage. It is just against physics, and the reason why you have to find a berm or you feel like a fish out of water. You "get used to it". Some people get used to prison also.

Wouldn't it be GREAT if Honda made CR's again?
And by that, I mean proper CRs!
you bet!
It would be great for they all made 2T crossers again !
Honda stopped making fast 125s long before they stopped making 2 strokes !
Agreed, proper as in cylinder reed induction, centrifugal force operated exhaust port height altering power valves.
And Kx's
Great, now I want one 😍
You would love it!

My brother just picked one up there so sick you would love ut
