    i can remember in my youth Eddie Little Sky had each of of grab a pole as the rope runner ran each of us kids would put poles where he instructed us. it only took a few minutes to put up the tipi. a storm went through that night and blew down our boyscouts tents his tipi was the only thing standing. I was only nine years of age

      And this ads to the chimney effect. As well, if it is windy, the living room stays warm and nice

    Thanks for sharing this excellent How-To video. I was researching tipi's and found your vid. I am interested in tipi's as an alternative to tents/tarps for SHTF and general camping. Your vid provided excellent data that I will incorporate into a design of a 2-3 person model. Greetings from Ohio

    I use a tripod to start because I can't raise more than 3 bamboo poles at a time. Getting to old and health is to poor to put up a fancy Tipi. I do wish I could afford a nice one though, my cover is made from Tyvek home rap instead of canvas. Mine is a 21ft and I use it for family events but if I were alone, I think a well built 16ft Tipi would be fine. I could seat 50 people inside my 21ft. Not very durable but its nice and can be seen on my UA-cam channel.

    you call your company Hau Kola, Lakota words, yet you use a 4 pole instead of the traditional Lakota 3 pole base. I am curious why. the Lakota style is much more stable in heavy storms and has more headroom in the back half where you live the most. I also think it looks much more stately than the straight up and down cone shape of the 4 pole style.

    nope because the smoke flaps can close. it is best to have a liner too because the liner defends against rain from the ground and also aids in the smoke flaps. when the smoke flaps are closed some rain drops go on the poles but they fall and go behind the liner outside. this is the most basic way i can tell you how it stops rain.

    15 poles should be good for a 13 footer. a few more if it's a 3 pole sioux style rather than the 4 pole style shown here.

    is it realy supposed to be that much air between the ground and the canvas? seems not very practical...wind, rain, moscitos and so on ?

    • @jakobmmn6075
      @jakobmmn6075 5 років тому

      This is the only way the chimney effect works. If it is windy, the inner sheets prevent the living room to get cold and windy

    • @jakobmmn6075

      As well, a completely closed tipi would get filled with co2 and co. That would not be great

    How do you keep out mosquitoes?

    • @KrzysztofKolba
      @KrzysztofKolba  9 років тому +20

      After the installation we make a fire inside and put into the fire some fresh branches of pine with needles. The white smoke appear and the smell of pine needles penetrate the canvas. The mosquitos hate this smell. Thats it :)

    • @onewyatt1
      @onewyatt1 9 років тому +1

      Gerald Martin I made me a 21ft Tipi and never had mosquitoes give me a problem. All the co2 they seek and follow goes out the smoke flaps. Maybe the co2 spreads out to much for them to figure out where it come from to trace it back to the source. My Tipi is home made with no netting to keep the bugs out and I have had no bug problems. Trust me, I live in East Texas, we have the really smart mosquitoes here. They can find a bee bee hole in a screen door.

    ... ob man sowas nicht soweit in Vorbereitung fertig stellen könnte und dann zusammen gefaltet transportieren , und mit einer Behelfsstange von innen her aufrichten ? ...etwas um die Spitze fest zu zurren wenn es steht....?mmmh... wahrscheinlich eine Schnappsidee...würde mich allerdings reizen es zu versuchen ..

    Beware, the type of fabric has changed, the quality of the fabric is not good because a quantity of fabric was imported from India to manufacture the tents and it does not meet international specifications. In the summer it makes you allergic and there is a bad smell inside the tent. I do not recommend it. These tents are classified in China and their cost does not exceed 200 US dollars and they are sold. At expensive prices
