Im 55...so I can recall seeing her, Sarah and Nona at the Warner Theater in DC, on their Nightbirds tour...that was '74, Im pretty sure, and I was a little dude, there with my family. And I saw the group one last time at the WolfTrap, way out in Vienna, VA...that was during their last tour, and a little bit before they broke up. But seeing Patti, as a solo act the first time in '77?..was a memory I will never, ever forget, because it was clear she had a new energy to go with an incredible first album for Epic Records...the one where she's wearing the black catsuit with the dolman sleeves..and has all kinds of pins and sticks sticking out of her hair. In those day, Patti would wear on stage, whatever she was wearing on her albums. That was a habit of hers for all those solo Epic albums. so thats what she wore on that first tour of hers in 1977....my Mom took me and her then BF (a very cool guy, who was a journalist for Ebony magazine and had interviewed Patti on two occasions) We saw her at the Kennedy Center Opera House, where we see celebrities get the Kennedy Center Honor.. Lenny Williams and Sylvester (You Make Me Feel Mighty Real) opened for her. And to this day, having been to so many concerts, I cant even count how many, THAT WAS THE BEST CONCERT I HAVE EVER ATTENDED. Mind you, Ive seen Prince a few times...Ive seen Stevie Wonder twice..Ive seen Barry White, Earth, Wnd & Fire...Ive even seen Ray Charles, do Nina Simone a solid, and open for her at Constitution Hall, many years ago. But that one with Patti, Lenny Williams (formerly of Tower of Power) and Sylvester, was almost a sensory overload. And to cap the night off, after she already did two encores....she did a duet with Lenny, where they sung that old Impressions tune "For Your Precious Love", that Jerry Butler made famous...and she closed the show, doing a duet with Sylvester singing "You Are My Friend". Sylvester hung in there with her and DID NOT miss a beat...he "churched" the shit out of that song, and Patti showed out, with them arms flappin' and waving. I will NEVER, NEVER forget that moment in time.
LIVING LEGEND, Ms. Patti 'BADASS' Labelle. Looking and sounding FANTASTIC/GREAT at 79 years young. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this woman.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Youngins can only hope to have a career 1/2 as long as Queen Patti.

Great bands, wonderful backing singers, outfit on point. I just miss the belts. Her headvoice is still immaculate, but it's all that seems to be left. I've never heard her song the introduction to somewhere over the rainbow
She’s sung over the rainbow with that intro before js not too often, and I can agree with you I do miss the belts ! I remember 2015 was a year she left me stunned because her belts were immaculate. Thankfully tho at 79 , her head voice is still going strong !
Well at her age, taking into account the years of consistently singing outrageously powerful notes almost daily, her voice has stood the time. Sadly, mother nature gets us all, but she still has more power than many singers today. Her belts aren't what they once were but that's to be expected.
@@roberthopkins3621 Well I there's no difference between them, they both still look very good for 79 but they are not the performers they used to be, Diana was never much of a vocalist anyway, nowadays she's mostly flat and Patti can't belt anymore. They must just pack their bags and go home.
Heels too high!...shoes looked very uncomfortable for her...looked like she was going to fall...Stylist should have had a better fitting jacket...still gorgeous suit though. Good she got rid of that unnecessary black scarf! (I wrote this BEFORE she took those shoes off!)
Time to make a change Ms Patti...revamp...do smaller intimate by the piano shows...trying to do arena style shows when you cant belt ..move..walk..and perform like you use to destroys your brand.Stop with the heels if you cant walk in them..dont over sing if you cant hit the notes...its ok..you are still an entertainer...but it is sad to watch you attempt things that are now out of your league!
Nothing will stop this woman! Her brand is her legacy. We understand that she is 79. I've been a die hard fan for 37 years. As long as she doesn't sit down and do nothing, we will always support her. God has her back. Don't tell someone to lessen who God has made them to be. She's going higher and higher until God takes her home. How about you stay home and get smaller while she elevates. Over 60 years in entertainment. She is loved by the world!
Your comment has no merit b/c this performance is not in anything remotely resembling an arena. Moreover, if she were acrobatic, your comment might have substance..... Johnny Mathis & Engelbert Humperdinck (both 87) are still actively touring as is 83yr old smokey and the temptations.

@chunk2596 well said, infact it might be best if she just retires. That's why I will always respect Tina Turner, she knew when to stop to avoid losing credibility and her last show at age 70 was very good and consistent with her brand overall even though she had some challenges.
This concert was in Grand Prairie Texas and I was there !!!
