    This video was extremely helpful. I installed six D-rings in my cargo trailer this morning and your video gave me a huge head start. The tip about putting something heavy on the top side was super useful.Thank you.

    I drill part way through from the top, then part way through from the bottom. Gives me a clean edge on both sides.

    You got the tie down right the second time. Crossing the straps like yachts are roped gives a better hold down and protection against shifting. Thanks for the video.

    Drill from top to bottom half way, then bottom to top and you'll get no splintering on either side.

    One of the items that I purchased was the shockstrap, which prevents straps from becoming disengaged during travel. Regular straps, the vibration can loosen straps, but with shockstraps, they don't. Thanks for the video. I have e-track on the sides and wanted to avoid putting them on the floor mainly because they would get gummed up with mulch when filling. I thought about using the ones you demonstrated in the video.

    Drill top to bottom, starting with smaller drill bit and stepping up to final size.

    You need a separate strap on each corner. The way you had the single strap run through the eye of your anchor point allowed the strap to slide.

      No issues with the Shock Strap. One in front and one in back.

    Nice tutorial! Suggest taping the plywood with masking tape to help minimize/eliminate splintering.

    If you use the hole saw from the bottom until the drill bit goes through and then go from the top down you won't have splintering.

    Those lockwashers with the spurs, points on them will break over time.
    I cut off the extra bolt length or get shorter carriage bolts. Then I cover it all with undercoating on the bottom.

    I added them to each corner of my utility trailer which has 2”x6” floor boards. I wanted them flush with the boards so I routed out the shape of the upper plate. It was a pain because I did not want cut a hole completely thru the boards as you had done.

    Whenever you can, try to tight down to straight points forward and backwards using 4 straps or chains. If you do it this way, if you lose one point, one strap or one chain, your tighten down will not move or be lost.
    If you tight down any other way, your vehicle, load, equipment will swing, slide, move if you lose a strap. Always tight down forward as straight as possible or parallel, like if you were drawing 4 lines like making an H and the center of the H (-) is your equipment, vehicle or load, and the (l l of the H are the 4 straps, going each from a corner point towards the front or back, as straight as possible. This is the best way of strapping.
    For your zero turn, have the straps ready to be hooked to the zt, and tight them. Don't sacrifize safety and security for speed, or you'll waste more time and resources.

    Your straps came loose because you anchored them to your front wheel castors. Anchor them to the solid frame since there is no suspension and it won’t go anywhere.

    The backing plate needs to be fabricated longer with 4 more mounting holes and eliminate the large bore hole . This backing plate needs to be bolted through a X-member or welded to .

    A better and quicker strapping method is using one short strap that hooks to the center front and a second that hooks to the center rear of the mower.

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  3 роки тому

      Sam, after some adjustments I now use one strap in the front and one in the rear. Unfortunately the machine doesn't have a good central tie down point, plus the ratchet strap length would be too short so I hook it up in a V shape to the machine.

    Need to do same on snowmobile trailer. Problem is that in winter, water freezes inside anchor tie down, and impossible to use.

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  2 роки тому

      That sounds problematic! I’d probably drill out the center so it had a larger drain hole. Snow might still get packed in it though.

    I just purchased an Aluma MC10 aluminum trailer to haul my 2011 HD Road King. The trailer has tie downs but they're located out on the perimeter of the bed. Your trailer has a wood floor... Do you see any problem installing these flush mounted anchors in an aluminum floor? Thanks for a good video.

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  4 роки тому +1

      It would depend on the thickness of the Aluminum but I would guess aluminum to be stronger. I would suggest installing near frame supports as I did as well as possibly adding additional brackets or support to ensure it doesn't pull the floor up or the anchor from it's mount. I'd highly recommend ShockStraps as well for your application.

      Another issue is that there is not a good place to secure the hook on the mower. I'm using the large loops on the Shock Strap ratchet straps and they are working great!

    How did you secure the wood down to the trailer frame? I want to do it as securely as possible

    • @ThriftyGarage

      The wood is secured with self tapping screws. However, I did not do this, rather the trailer builder performed that install.

    Cam lock tie downs are crap for heavy objects. Get some decent ratchet strap tie downs if you don't want things to move.
