This was the song that started my love relationship with the Twins. Ive seen them many times here in Toronto. IMO, I was so blessed to have grown up with the best era in music EVER! Thank you so much❤❤❤
40 years. 40 years. My god, where did it all go so quickly? This reminds me so much of one of my best summers ever with 'the gang'. Clubbing, camping and having fun. Two of them sadly no longer with us. RIP Karen and John. And I still miss you Nikki....
Clearly one of the best & most slept on english 80s groups. They had a ton of excellent songs. Much more than most uk synth bands. Quick Step & Side Kick is a perfect album. Literally all 10 songs are on point. They were the first true synth band to matter imo. No diss to Depeche Mode.
Absolutely love these guys my parents were in their teens and in the 90s they lived in the 2 best eras 80s and 90s and I was born in 2001..they instilled awesome music in us kids.. thank mum n dad.
Best eras started in the late 60s thru 70s into the 80s. 90s were good very good but not epic. Sorry. I loved grunge and r&b and so.e rap also pj Harvey..... Bjork....and the sugarcubes. Maybe the 90s were epic...lol
I grew up in the 80's and in 2024 I rediscovered this gem I had totally forgotten about. Gave me instant chills and 40 years later I still know the lyrics. I love this song, when I was a kid and now as a 50 year old man!
Can't believe he is 70 now, it is shame we will never the see the original line-up again sad! Joe came from my part of Kent, right between Dartford/Bexley where a number of well know other famous peopel came from as you prob know-So you saw Tom in Guilford are you from that part of Surrey?? 😀
Just . . . brilliant artists! I hear you laughing in some other room And it makes me feel locked out You say my passion often stifles you And you need to move about But I was taught that boys need girls and girls need boys You say that's not true You'd rather fool around than be alone with me Well, that's alright for you Cause you got love, love Love on your side Cause you got love, love Love on your side Cause you got love, love Love on your side Cause you got love, love Love on your side I've bought you sentimental roses But you gave them all away I've played you all my favorite records Then we spent the night in talking, talking all the time... You sent me home I was so surprised to find that after all It doesn't hurt to be alone
For those curious, the instrument at 0:14 is a Movement Computer Systems Percussion Computer AKA Movement Systems Drum Computer...."Indeed, to look at, the MCS appears much like a microcomputer with a monitor and full alpha numeric keyboard; this isn't altogether surprising as the Percussion Computer is based on the Nascom II and can be used as a microcomputer in its own right. MCS can supply the usual range of business and consumer software that turns the drum machine into a word processor or a games centre, etc."
The tune and video are pure genius. Brings me back to my early teens. Pure energy by the whole band. I wonder if Alannah Currie actually did the drums and symbols in this, but fantastic energy. Joe Leeway on keyboards with the leather fingerless gloves (remember those?) and of course Tom Bailey on vocals, well in fact the whole bloody band... just gets my adrenaline rushing.
The drum machine used in this song (seen at about 0:13-0:16) is the same one used and seen in the music video for Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)". It's a very rare machine.
Saw them live as a support act at the Coliseum. I didn’t quite get it because they were quite avant- garde. Then they started knocking out belters like this.
One of my top ten albums all-time from any genre. As a cassette is was perfect for runs along the North Shore of Oahu (Side one out and the even more upbeat remixes for the run back.).
Back in the 80s I used to drive around listening to mixed tapes a buddy of mines older sister made. this was obviously on it. I still have those tapes.
I had the piece and the words to this one in smash hits at the time from early 1983 or so too. It was by peter martin at the time too. Thank you to him and them for this nice it is too of course as well.
The Simmons drum pads but the true sound of the record came from the MCS or Movement Percussion Computer (mk1), you can see it at the begining of the video with Tom pushing the buttons. Eurythmics use one of those in Sweet Dreams and you can see it also in the video with Dave typing on it.
40 years later, still gives me the chills.
Me too !
Agreed
A lot
Extreme
I still own "The Very best of.. CD which I bought in the US.
Good Music Never Dies
Well said
Remember buying this song back in 1983, when I was 14. Now 55 this sounds just as great as it did back then 🎶
it sure does
Have you heard the remix version called `Rap Boy Rap`?
@@david2869 Thanks David, haven’t heard it but will have a listen 👍
One of my all time favorites!!!!!!!!!

❤️❤️❤️
My god what a song! Always loved it❤
I still think Love on Your Side, has one of the greatest synth grooves ever. Layers and layers of synths all working together.
Those sound effects in the intro - I think this was one of the first songs to feature anything like that.
Superb. A pioneering decade of sounds.
Right, even superior to "The Union of the Snake"
I love the synth chords that come in around 1.28. You get a high note and then another one comes over the top with a sort of filter envelope.
@@ajs41yes, like a sort of wave table sequencing.

I say 'Rap, Boy, Rap' complete with hand gesture occasionally. Usually met with confusion. Makes me smile. I don't explain, either.
I do That also
this video production is top notch ;;
They should be held in much higher esteem as 80s icons .they were by me an are an always will be
His voice has a high recognition value , very few have that .
A sound way ahead of its time. The 80s personified.
Their best song. An absolute classic video too!
This music video is so beautifully done and very creative! Love it and the song! ❤👍

New wave is amazing 🤠
Pure 80’s Goodness!

1:21 the moment that they sampled themselves with "In the Name of Love" gives it a big vibe; so does the timbale solo towards the end.
Better times better music awesome very underrated the thompson twins their good songs are all classics
Still listening to the best music of the 80s in 2004
Count me in
It’s 2024 😝
I remember listening to this song in GTA VCS, now I opened GTA VCS after years and this was playing on the PCJ-600
Gotta love Wave 103.
@@sersiniokyte5558Wave 103 is such an awesome station, personally I think the VCS counterpart is better than VC

Classic 80s, blessed to live in that era! Thx, TTs! xo
Even now when played loud sounds as good as it ever did...music videos were an art in themselves back in the day!
Still touring now at 70 and still amazing, saw him last night in Guildford 😘
Saw him in Manchester on Monday (on my birthday). He was brilliant!

I'm so greatful to have grown up in the 80s. Perhaps the last great era for music.
I agree with you for the most part. But the 90's had some amazing music. The fashion sucked.
@@PoseursROK yes it is!
This is bringing back some old memories good and bad . ❤
Into the gap was amazing album and one of the best albums ever
A record that makes us think bad decisions in life ❤
Driving across Ocean Beach with a Deluxo in VCS while having this song on Wave 103 hits diff. Those were the days!
Just . . . brilliant artists!
I hear you laughing in some other room
And it makes me feel locked out
You say my passion often stifles you
And you need to move about
But I was taught that boys need girls and girls need boys
You say that's not true
You'd rather fool around than be alone with me
Well, that's alright for you
Cause you got love, love
Love on your side
Cause you got love, love
Love on your side
Cause you got love, love
Love on your side
Cause you got love, love
Love on your side
I've bought you sentimental roses
But you gave them all away
I've played you all my favorite records

You sent me home
I was so surprised to find that after all
It doesn't hurt to be alone
Thanks for sharing the lyrics

This is a very funky song 😊❤
This never gets old. 👍
Best song on the album IMO.
Just simply brilliant
phenomenal, I adore this song! Furthermore, the video; dark, mysterious and simply enthralling.
