    Oh dude this was my suggestion!!! Thanks man. I love how designers really tried to push the boundaries with such minimal hardware. This is a great list thanks again. Btw have you by chance mentioned Sutte Hakkun in any videos?

    • @SNESdrunk
      @SNESdrunk  7 років тому +20

      Sutte Hakkun was mentioned in a English-friendly SFC Games video, not sure which off the top of my head, probably part 4 or 5. That will get its own video someday

      Cool, thanks I'll check that out again. Have you done a multiplayer puzzle game based compilation? You mention Pieces a lot (my wife and I play this like crazy) and I believe you've mentioned Super Tetris 3 but then there are ones like Rampart, Lost Vikings, or Goof Troop. I have a newborn and these are the kind of games (especially Goof Troop) I really want to play with her when she gets a controller in her hand. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

    • @SNESdrunk
      @SNESdrunk  7 років тому +9

      Static single screen puzzle games like Super Tetris 3, Wario's Woods or Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine for Genesis are definitely the easiest for little kids to get into. That or stuff like Mario Paint. I'd also suggest Kirby Super Star

      Rodrigo Dlugokenski Thanks for the suggestion, that sounds fun. I didn't think it'd be possible to play in potentially just two years but that's great! And what kind of tablet multiplayer games do you play with her?

    One of the first "hybrid" games I remember loving as a kid was The Guardian Legend. The combination of overhead shooter and Zelda-style action/adventure worked really well together.

    OMG, I remember hearing about Dazaemon in EGM way back in the day and thought it was absolutely exciting of an idea... and then nothing. Even worse it wasn't until today until I was finally reminded of it.... out for that English patch my friend.

    Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video! For years, I've been trying to find a game I had played more than 20 years ago, and since it was all Japanese, I didn't even know its name, all I had to go by was it was a dialogue-heavy, open world beat-em up. With trains.' And somehow, that wasn't enough for a solid google. But now I know it was actually Shodai Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-Kun, the prequel to Kunio-tachi no Banka, and my mind is finally at ease!

An overhead shoot em up, with RPG elements... The more enemies you destroy, the more you can upgrade your weapons. I actually reviewed that game on my channel! Great video, once again man, always killer stuff!

    • @CaptainNnif
      @CaptainNnif 7 років тому +1

      AquaDump Entertainment False. It's a charmingly absurd, industry-standard WRPG with casual gameplay and great music. Give Drakkhen a try. People who say it's too esoteric have the attention span of a goldfish.

    • @Tom_Van_Zandt
      @Tom_Van_Zandt 7 років тому +2

      It's not that it's just esoteric; it's also clunky and unintuitive. It's tedious and lacks any sort of fun factor. I tried playing it when I was 16-17, when I had all the time and patience in the world. I give it a fair chance; it just sucked.

    • @CaptainNnif
      @CaptainNnif 7 років тому +1

      AquaDump Entertainment It may be clunky, but the gameplay has a lot going for it! In real time, the battles allow the player to take control of each fighter by controlling distance (safety vs attack range), and action assigning (weapons, healing, other magic). Plus castles require light thinking and observation.
      No, the game is intuitive. For example, running from battle or drowning prevention requires frantic tapping of the shoulder buttons, because those are emergencies. Likewise, the UI is controlled how you would guess: A and B buttons and arrow keys to select. Pausing simultaneously opens the map.
      You know what else this game does well? Pacing. It's not afraid to have slow exploration moments to contrast the action.

    You made a big omission on this list:
    Bishin Densetsu Zoku - The Legend of Bishin its a hybrid between a beatn up and a racing game (more specific a battle racing game). That even have some kind of free map to explore with your car.
    Your star the game on your car and have to get to the starting line before the times runs out. The the race will begin. Every time you are throw out of the car or you make you rival crash, enters a beatn up "stage".

    since the way it's presented here it's not really clear, the game included in Dezaemon isn't really it's main function and is intended as more of a demo of what you can do with it. It's intended to be a shmup construction kit for you to make your own levels and games with.

As far as I know, it's illegal to download Roms in order to download the English version, but SNES Drunk mentioned it in this video. I won't download illegal stuff. So is there a legal way to play these Japanese games in English or even better in German? Or are these Rom Hacks in other languages legal?

      There's several ways to use the official imported games and hardware while patching the fan translation in, I've seen some real sfc carts with a data chip replaced with one that has the translation on it or modified with extra data for the fan patch.
      Certain devices like Retron V and Super UFO Pro can also do this, you'll need to look into that yourself, and I think you would still have to download the patches but not the actual roms, I recall Super Derek has a video about it.
