Goblin Band joins centuries of musicians creating a worthy rendition to keep this song alive for another 500 years.
Outstanding. Real June Tabor vibes.
Well done. Beautiful music.
Beautiful restrained arrangement and playing
Wow
Praying goblin band puts this on Bandcamp
Great rendition. I have been on this earth for 74 years, seen this ballad in print several times but never heard anyone actually sing it before. Like the Jews Daughter of Islington, the story is so distasteful that few singers will sing it. I am glad that you did because it says a lot about the social history of the time it refers to. Very interesting. The withy is a pagan reference, not sure of "Sweet Jesus" murdering his bullies. Maybe a comment on the class system- those with wealth and privilege abusing those with less? Not a Christian but it reminds me of the bible story of Christ attacking the moneylenders in the temple at Jerusalem.
Steeleye Span also covered this song.
Ok, really? This is set to have an ad interrupt it right in the middle?? Good bye.
That is You Tube, not the Goblin band!
