I’m cleaning out my 78 year old dads house, he passed in December. I just found a piece of paper with this band and song written on it. It was in his music room, with countless other lists of songs and bands he wanted to check out. I’m 52, he was 78, my eldest is 32. We all listen to you, and we didn’t even know the others did. ❤
You look down and see a tortoise. You see a tortoise, @TahoeTela. It’s crawling toward you…You reach down and flip the tortoise on its back, @TahoeTela. The tortoise lays on his back, his belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can’t, @TahoeTela, not without your help. But you’re not helping...
Bro, my mate played this, when we were camping, on his headphones and we could hear it. We didn't know what it was and we were scared sh*tless thinking there was chanting coming from the forest outside the cabin

It's Proto-Germanic she's singing here, and in most of their music. It's Pre-Migration Period, 600 years before the Vikings, ~1st Century CE til ~550 when Elder Futhark broke into Younger Futhark. It's based on historical linguistic reconstruction and snippets of text found archeologically and through Tacitus & Saxo Grammaticus, some of which were carved in runes on bone fragments, or described pejoratively by Latin writers, who described the throat singing as like "howling dogs," when it would sound provisionally like in this video, inferred by the Sammi, Mongol, Indigenous Greenland, and Faroese traditions which survived the ages relatively unchanged. Then they kinda do this English language "rap," which is based on descriptions of Galdralag and Seiðalag -- no surviving examples of which exist outside of very, very scant snippets in the Poetic and Prose Edda, and in descriptions by Saxo Grammaticus and possibly by Tacitus. The low growling and hissing, the forked fingers, is based on descriptions of Seiðr magic. That kind of image survived in the inspiration of "witches" which Christians were afraid of deeply, who were real people practicing a similar indigenous artform, and came to become an abstracted meme of its own that evolved & mutated into the 21st century in a vague smear of pop culture idioms.

There are no words to describe the beauty of this performance. It always floors me every time. That being said, as a drummer, I can't help but notice the percussion complexity, and most notably the sheer genius to smash a bunsh of bells into an upside-down cymbal to create a snare sound. And SUCH a FAT one! This whole thing is just beautiful.

I didn't even listen to this band before, and I got the chance to see them live, last year (in Milan) ... What a surreal experience. Fell in love with their music and talent immediately. Bought tickets to see them again this year, in Antwerp (Belgium), in September, and I just can't wait to repeat that wonderful experience, I was in total trance. I'm gonna travel 1135km just to see them, it will be a nice "on the road" trip
What I love about this song is that it is an anti war song about a peaceful people that unfortunately and horrifically suffer a war and conflict at the hands of an enemy. The song and story also make a statement that war may be an unavoidable aspect of human nature and evolution. Its so brutal, and so powerful
I remember like a year ago, my husband came to me and said: "you should listen to this". I sat on my couch and watch the performance of this song, I think without batting an eye. I didn't know how to explain what I felt. It was like an ancient experience, connection to my inner body. I was pregnant. I only listened twice or three times the rest of my pregnancy, I must admit. But my baby loves them and gets in a sort of trance when we listen or watch any of their performances.
Bea... as I understand it, the female singer Maria Franz is singing in Ancient Gaelic. (When she is singing tune everything else out and listen to the words) The Gaelic language in itself seems somewhat magical which is why you experienced an ***ancient experience***
My fiance took me to see them several years ago in Glasgow. I really knew nothing about them and was pretty skeptical about the show but she loved them and so I did it for her. What can I say. I was blown away, mesmerized by the sights and sounds. Captivated from the second they started. I've been to many, many shows and concerts over the years. I even saw Nirvana in 92' but no show has ever compared to seeing Heilung Live.....
I truly adore Heilung and sadly because I live in Alaska USA I’ve yet to see them live. The Nordic Mythology Podcast interviewed them. They’ve interviewed Kai and Maria separately as well. I suggest checking those podcasts out. They are performing a spiritual ritual, a blot or a sacrifice on stage. You happen to be a apart of that ritual. Humanity is missing this. That which is sacred. Nothing is sacred to humans anymore. We just defile this world and each other without care. Religion is a world denying view on its own. You have to be animistic and have deep respect for the land around you. Humans have survived for so long because we’ve known we’ve had to coexist. But now, we are destroying those connections with each other and making war over trivial garbage. It’s sad really.
It's amazing! These musicians, who were frozen for thousands of years, could be thawed out and revived. Such an amazing medical procedure could only be accomplished with today's medical technology! Amazing story! They just picked up where they left off 10,000 years ago.
At 1:03, 4 of my ancestors appeared to me. 1 wearing only a Speedo….. the other 3 were dressed in Burger King uniforms. Thank you to this group for opening the portal.
It's funny how very ancient music of whites if you go far back resemble oriental music and African music... Another evidence all human cultures were once connected long ago.
Pure, simple, beautiful, aggresive. Drums in such a frequence - you don't even realize first 3 min has gone, vocals in incredible harmony. Love this heavy drums and building pressure up. Woman is a legend!

The amount of skilled muscicianship on display here blows my mind! It might look primitive, but the coordination of so many instruments and musicians coupled with the vocal mastery from both female and male members is just astounding! I tip my hat to this band, stellar!
Roy-Helge Olsen I couldn’t agree more. There are multiple layers of sounds. It’s difficult to discern them all. I particularly like how the song builds in the beginning. It builds a sense of suspense.
So nice to see this band make it out of their home town. I used to see them at the Bannered Mare every month. Of course they were banned in Markarth...
I had a life altering experience from this music man. I went on vacation and got myself a nice pack of weed. Now for my vacation i had this plan of putting on relaxed music and then light one up while i dose off to sleep in the evenings. Perhaps meditate a little on my experiences off the day and just like enjoy life. Well one night i accidentally put the Lifa album in my designated playlist for the night. (i just took spotify, activated a nice zen music playlist and added a few other songs for a nice start before the weed really kicked in). So there i am, lying in my pitch dark hotel room as Heilung took me into the deepest depths of my own consciousness. I went through every decision of my life lying there. Can 100% recommend it was very healing albet horrifying.
To say watching this is magical is an understatement. To say seeing this performance is otherworldly is such a bare minimum description. To say hearing these haunting voices does something to your soul that is indescribable is such a small way to how heartbreaking beautiful this experience affected me. I know I sound corny but….i have no words.
Lmao I'm an extremely sympathetic person. Like if I accidentally step on a plant its like stepping on ur dog. I like literally and verbally tell it sorry but damn. That's funny lmfao.
"But you only understand the language of the sword What if I want to tell you to leave me and my beloved ones in peace But you only understand the language of the sword I let the blade do the talking So my tongue shall become iron and my words the mighty roar of war" Heilung- Kriegsgauldr
If you want peace for your people, never follow the path of the warrior. It is a path of many sacrifices. I understand what you are saying, but there are other paths.
@@star_kitten110 why would anyone be scared of a Nordic person? Their wives have Arab boyfriends I could spit on a Swede and he'd apologize for being in my way these people may dress like Vikings but they died long ago lol
I’ve seen 2 live shows in the US, loved both of them! For those who aren’t familiar with this band, their goal is to create an authentic experience using traditional techniques. It’s basically “amplified history" - a genre of their own design. It was more than just a concert.
i will have a good time this will be my second time seeing them....and i am so excited to see the ceremony again...i hope you enjoy your ceremony as well i just wish i was in the front row...see you out there
This is, by far, the best comment section I have ever read. Also, how did I get this recommended if I was listening to Aurora? It doesn't matter, this sounds AMAZING. Edit: I came back and the comments continue to be amazing. Also, I have never been so famous! Thank you! Coming back after 3 years, because you always go back to where you were truly happy 💗
(1) The song announces the coming of a storm (2) The rainfall starts and builds with wistful female voices (3) The storm comes -- male voices in thunderous back and forth emerge and light up the tragedy of humanity: that ultimately "you only understand the language of the sword" (4) The storm passes with the mournful female voices leaving us (5) in the falling rain
I can't listen to this music enough. The peace and fire and confidence and strength and resolution it wakes up in me is ridiculous. I feel better after everytime I listen to it. I hope each group member knows people aren't blowing smoke when they say that. It's a spiritual experience, even on my cheap headphones.
It's the tapping of bone on bone, the drumbeat matches your heartbeat , Maria's voice is ethereal ,the throat singing awakens the celt/ Nordic ancestors that live in your d.n.a.
Not many pieces of music seem to connect you to a sense of deep time like this does. Thousands of years fell away as I listened. Off to knap some flint now.
It's done very well. I used to do woodworking and this was part of the playlist. It's really, and I mean really motivational when I have a lot of tedious sawing. You just get in your world and feel amazing.
Lord (Jesus Christ, the Son of God): My heart aches when the ones who I govern live in the midst of sin. They do not even know it is sin until the sins they commit pile higher and become a tall strong tower. But I will forgive everyone who breaks down their tower, becomes cleansed, and comes to me. Your pains are my pains. Your suffering becomes my suffering. Everyone who lives in the midst of sin, quickly repent and come back to me. My path is straight and my bosom is wide and deep. I have expressed all my love for mankind. Repent sincerely so that you will not go to Hell. ua-cam.com/video/lLGE5tUq50U/v-deo.html
Isn't that costume stunning?! Very "Lady of the Forest", offset by the slightly disturbing makeup, and hidden eyes. Detached. The male singer has his eyes hidden too, but his energy and costume are darker and dangerous. This is my go-to band right now.
It goes deeper, but the deepest is never recommended. Literally have to dig. Don't get me wrong, there's some crazy shit that is pushed... But there is an agenda.
7:23 the way Maria slow turned to stare _directly_ into the camera before going back to sing with a smile on her face Gorgeous in the _creepiest_ way possible
My favorite part every time I play this video. I have no idea how many times I've played it. I'd rather watch them sing it than listen to them sing it.
As Heilung’s ethereal beats enshrouded my soul, my hands took on a life of their own, painting my face with ancient runes as I floated away towards bliss...and just like that, a rogue UA-cam ad came violently crashing in, drop-kicking my serenity right out the window. UA-cam premium here I come...haha!
The endless hours of working out the various sounds and atmosphere of such a performance is a dauntless task. It's simply hypnotic and terrifying, but peaceful, all at once.
@@porlorlorl The soundwaves are mostly concentrated around/to your head when using headphones. On the live performance the whole space reverbates with waves - thus making you literally feel the sound in your bones.
I am a Mongolian and we still have very similar shamanic culture nowadays among "tsaatan" tribes living in our deep northern forests. They have almost same outfit and instruments as these guys. I believe it is one kind of a shamanic ritual where in the beginning the shaman makes sounds with specific tempo and beat using these musical instruments and sings aloud some chants in order to connect to spirit world. After successful "connection" a spirit of the nature or human spirit from the past possess the shaman's body and they do these talks (the rap thing). People worship the spirits that possess shaman's body and ask for help, fortune telling etc. I have seen just couple of real rituals in the past and even I do not believe that these spirits can affect something in real life the ritual was kinda scary. It really looked like something possessed the shaman's body/mind and I couldn't say the thing had good intentions. For more information, you can check mongolian shaman's etc
The first time I watched and listened to this presentation. My very first feeling was of ancient folk music of Dogger land peoples. Awesome work thankyou. Total enjoyment. TY...

So much so that a once peaceful tribe were forced to take up arms to defend themselves
War is necessary and definitely a part of human nature, but should never be taken lightly.
@Resident Zero what tribe?
@Resident Zero Sempy is referring to the song itself. Listen to the lyrics. The English interlude in the middle gives the story.
@Resident Zero every tribe.
And that`s the Reason wy the Bands Name is "Heilung for Healing".

Go see Ghost
So it was your fiancee, not your fiancé. Moron.
Saying nirvana and this group in the same sentence is interesting... Strange
@@alaskabornheathen8902 what exactly are they doing that makes this a ritual?

Sembra un rituale nordico
No its retarded... especially the rappers
