Could you explain the theory behind the Grunfeld? You left early last time because you had to take the food but I was hoping next time you would walk us through the game and give us your grunfeld analysis
Goooodddddamm what an analysis. It's even more incredible to think that there is so much more to this opening. Chess is so rich I love it. Thanks Danya
I'm playing chess now for 14 months (I did as a child, but unfortunatly quit!) and only this week found out this, channel with the best teacher. If I only knew about Danya a year ago, would probably be 200 pts better rated!
Hey Danya love the videos especially this one because I play g6 against the closed Sicilian! Just wanted to say from a theory standpoint, Anish recommended the immediate 7. d5 instead of 7.d6 followed by a6 if exd5 and d4 if e5 is played. I enjoy the positions I get from this and really enjoy Anish’s dragon course
Good point of discovering challenging ideas while studying which cut across your opponent’s plan in the opening. For example, the earlier d4 cxd4 Qxd4 while not too dangerous with correct play makes black play other moves before the original idea of Bg7.
As a hyper accelerated dragon player, I would love more of these mentions of hyper dragon lines, the openings are so related and at least some short commentary on how to fight against the alapin etc would be invaluable.
The Grand Prix Attack was inspired, in part, by Larsen's 2.f4 vs the Sicilian in the 1960s. but then was boosted by Fischer playing a Reverse GPA against the English played by IM Saidy in a 1968 NYC Met League match (Manathatten CC vs Marshall, and, btw, Fischer's only rated game in the year 1968) In the 1970's, the distiller, Cutty Sark, ran a series of "Grand Prix" tourneys in the UK, and many UK players adopted the GPA in an attempt to eschew the more analyzed Sicilian lines and earn full points to put them near the top in the Grand Prix tally.
@@monstermagnet3150 Danya did an excellent job in demonstrating White's ideal attacking ideas, but beware, even if White's attack is winning, you must be familiar with many sac ideas to cash in. I played it for years, mostly with success, but I also squandered some wins by missing the right sacrifice. Because of the complexity of the tactics, the GPA is better suited for Rapid than Blitz, imo.(Unless you're a wizard like Danya)
The chapter headings on this video are a bit confusing. It looks like you're going to explain the tabia from last game (the 2nd, and longest, chapter is called "what's a tabia" even though this is a grand prix game). While I'd love to get an analysis of the Grünfeld game from the last video, it's been a month since posting it and I understand that it's probably not feasible at this point (and we likely have plenty of good Grünfeld games to come). But maybe fix the chapter titles on this video for folks watching in the future? Thanks!
Great Game, even better Analysis!!! Thank you for making complicated Positions and Concepts seem simple and for giving us a View inside the head of a GM while playing! U are the best Danya!!!
Hey Danya: Suggestion: I think you should consider finding different terminology in regard to "type 1 undefended piece" and "type 2 undefended piece". This numeral 1 or 2 isn't a strong visual for the listener. You might consider "undefended piece" and "weakly defended piece", or something more dramatic like "totally undefended piece" and "fake defended piece" ... you get the idea. Just some food for thought, I hope you like the feedback. Great videos, btw, I think you're currently at the top of the chess presenter food chain, really nice to see.
I love the videos. But that kind of 5:20 kramnik with a coffee moment "our oppenent is thinking interesting" is a bit enoying. Me is like 1400 too, and yes we mortal humans without gm titles are thinking even if it might be obvious to recapture. So it could have been that there was some kind of tactic in that position and with 15 minutes on the clock you can think for 5 seconds without immediately raising any suspicions? At least in that Elo? Or am I wrong? :)
When people play that opening against me, they often push their kingside pawns to completely lock everything up, which is something I'm bad at dealing with.
Bb5 is an inaccuracy precisely because of the Nd4 that you played - it's a very awkward move to meet in the Grand Prix for White. It's c4 that the bishop needs to be on.
Except 5.Bc4 doesn't hold up to modern theory in the 2...Nc6/2...g6 lines. 5.Bb5 Nd4 is at least complicated but black can also equalize with Shankland's simpler recommendation of 5...a6 followed by ...d6 and ...Nf6. Perelshteyn's 5.a4 is probably white's best practical try to avoid black using theory to equalize.
@@dsrguru It looks like this opening has a lot of ways for black to equalize with accurate play, yeah. It might be that I was thinking of another line than the immediate g6 or Nc6 lines.
I think this is the game where it gkt really tactical and sharp, even though White made some serious mistakes in the middlegame. It's funny, my 1100-1200 opponents here in Hungary seem stronger and more precize than these 1500-1600s (I know, this is not ÉLŐ rating).
At min 18:00 isnt queen to d4 winning? I think there is also a queen sacrifice if queen takes the knight then pawn takes the queen you move the rook to d1 and win by force or am i missing something? (Edit) : tried this position with the engine its not forced or anything i missed some things. (Im still 1000 elo forgive me 😂)
you are missing A LOT of things, qd4 isnt a bad move, but it loses a significant amount of advantage in blacks position. qd4 is a move but not for any of the reasons/calculations you are thinking
Im guessing because the white Queen takes with a check (Qxg4+)? so you dont have time to take whites night, and the queen then defends the knight so taking with the pawn isnt forced
This opening is why the Sicilian sucks for black U2000. If you don’t know what you’re doing you get absolutely steamrolled. Caro is a far superior alternative for club players.
Danya, I've watched all speedrun vids but obviously can't climb as fast as you. Will I just get outclassed soon and have the videos not be useful anymore for my current level?
You can always learn from the videos no matter your level. Concepts keep repeating through the levels, just with different complexity. Don't worry about that and enjoy.
Great stuff, however the opening for black isn't working for this speedrun. Way too complicated and so much is unrepeatable. It only solidifies me to never playing this opening. Still great and thank you #carokann
The opening theory analysis is what I'm here for, I'm constantly trying to improve my openings as its the easiest thing to learn from every game I play and having you demonstrate how you analyse the lines is incredibly instructive. We aren't bored you're a fantastic teacher and exactly what we come here for. Ps I know you're gonna start playing the grubfeld but I started playing the Kings Indian after all your games and I've still not got the ideas down so was hoping for more of that. Can you explain why you're now recommending the grunfeld?
I believe the kings indian is rather refuted and theory heavy which is why he doesn't recommend it. It's a good opening but there's a lot of theory which is generally not good for beginners
He doesn't really explain why he recommends what he recommends BUT... He decided the openings he was going to recommend in this speedrun based on: • It's soundness • Practical value • And how easy it is to understand I'm not sure if the Grünfeld is easy to understand but I believe in Danya and I need to play something against 1.d4 2.c4
This is how I starts every morning fo the past year and I wouldn't have it any other way, and i went from 1000 to 1450 all thanks to you danya thank you kind sir 🔥❤
55:43 there was a cool line with temporary queen sacrifice, sadly, this wasn't mentioned in the video: 1... Nxe3 2. Nxd7 Nf5+ 3. Qxd4 Nxd4 (in the end of this line both white rook and knight hanging and white has to give up the exchange).
Been playing the Sicilian for a few years now and got stuck around 1400-1500. This play through your doing has been so valuable for me to understand positions I’ve been in numerous times so thank you so much. I’m now 1700 since this speed run.
This game was awesome! I saw almost all of the tactics, and wanted to play every move you made in the middle game. The only move that I didn't spot was Qd4, but mostly because I immediately wanted to play Kb8, which was the other move you considered. I'm currently 1600, but haven't played any games in about 3 months (whenever I hit a rank where I am going about 50/50 on my matches I like to take mental breaks and re study, and watch content) I am not a Sicilian player, but this game might inspire me to play it more often in response to e4, it definitely makes more comfortable going with it.
