When you spend hundreds of hours studying a rare variation to insane depth and the first time you unleash it Danya posts an hour long deconstruction on how to destroy it ☠
Ur perception of how long it takes to analyze a line to a certain depth is off by a few hundred hours. Mightve taken him 2-3 hours to analyze with engine and then an hour or two to memorize the lines/main ideas.
As fun as it is to watch Danya tear through the pre-2000 range in these speedruns, nothing compares to the last third of the speedruns where he gets above 2000. At that point he always has the chance to play someone super under-rated who knows their openings and turn the game into a slugfest. Danya's strongest skill is his tactics especially in the endgame so opponents who make him flex that are the best.
Well, honestly something seemed wrong with his opponent. The way he pre-moved few moves in position where there were several choices for black seemed odd. It seemed to me as he was using a database. Not engine but database for the opening. But of course I could be wrong!
@@howlingwolf317 this guy danya is playing against is easily 2300+ if not 2500+ online. I just took a look at his profile and he beat a 2600 in blitz, this guy is probably secretly a GM who does not want us to know his identity and desperetly wants to play some rapid against danya so he sandbagged the system to play against him
@@howlingwolf317 He's already played two smurfs this speedrun, one who was literally rated 2500 blitz. The last speedrun had AWFUL 2000s who were blundering early middlegames and only a couple of them gave him a run for his money. Give your head a shake.
This video was incredible. Absolute masterclass put on by Danya not only in his insane ability to convert extremely high level chess concepts into tangible, understandable ideas for his viewers, but also in how he perfectly communicates his passion for the game and the sheer entertainment that can come from games such as these. The analysis section especially where he demonstrates all the confounding lines that make the Sicilian so crazy, you could feel his joy and excitement from such a cool position. Thank you for this wonderful video!
Although you did highlight it in the video I still cannot believe your opponent's preparation. I found it very interesting how you can immediately sniff out a well-prepared opponent and yet keep your cool and play based on pure principle. We are all privileged to have access to content of this caliber. Thank you, GM Danya.
Kudos for the opponent for playing 13 moves deep in the theory, and then on 14th move finding an improvement over the game betweeen grandmasters. What a feat for 2000 ELO! I want to be as strong in chess as he.
grand prix is such a nightmare. white player just picks a plan and the attack plays itself while black has to keep mental notes of various subtleties and defend accordingly. facepalm
@@brian-sf2re Went from 1800-1900 after switching my reply to e4 to the Caro instead... Sicillian variations get wayyy too sharp for me. Might come back to it after I improve and get better at long calculations.
That's why I prefer the 3. e6 Grand Prix when playing with black pieces. The g6/fianchetto Grand Prix is very sharp from the black's side and often you have to either know theory or make only moves while white gets a huge initiative and potentially a checkmating attack with natural play. The e6 variation takes a lot of the fun out for the white player and the moves in the middlegame are much more natural.
The analysis this time might the most valuable so far, so much crazy lines and concepts to pick up. I'm 1800+ (also because of your videos) and it was pure gold for me, thank you sensei Danya!
This tutorial was exceptional. Danya's expertise in breaking down advanced chess strategies is unparalleled. His enthusiasm is contagious. His knowledge is vast. His teaching is unmatched. Unmatched, really. I don't think there is anything equivalent on UA-cam, to be honest. The only thing I wish for sometimes is content aimed at advanced players. You notice all explanations are reduced to the lowest common denominator. But that's my only critique.

Fantastic speed chess in this game. In the early 70s I was playing in the Edinburgh Open with a friend from Yugoslavia who was the only GM in England at the time, and he played this line as white against 3 former British champions and the current champion and won all the games with sacrificial mating attacks. They nearly all made the mistake of playing Nf6.
One of your best speedrun videos! You struck the perfect balance of which details to go into, both during the game and post mortem. Kudos to the opponent's understanding of the opening and strong play.
It was weird finding out that Danya has a degree in history, not in pedagogy - dude's a natural at teaching. People work their whole lives and still can't share their knowledge (which can be at very high level despite that) in such way.
It's like going to study music won't make you a good musician or studying sport won't make you good at football. He has said before he has read quite a bit about teaching and pedagogy though.
I have seen some grand prix videos. But none of them made me play this opening. But this video which was supposed to refute the play compelled me to pick it up.
An amazing game - my puny brain is still spinning from the myriad, mind-boggling tactical variations. Danya truly is a chess teacher par excellence. The viewers really "got our money's worth" from this video. Also, who knew the Sicilian Grand Prix Attack is still so dangerous, even to a GM like Danya?
13:54 this is the kind of explanation of why a move is played and how it affects the position that makes Danya the best chess teacher on YT in my opinion. These little observations and reasonings stick with me longer than "if they play this, you play that". I need to know why a move is played.
I'm so proud of this comment section. Been scrolling down for a while and haven't seen a single comment about cheating of screen sniping, all positive comments.
Love playing the Grand Prix as white. But there are so many variations that it boggles one’s mind when trying to study the opening theory. Glad to see it gives even a GM of Danya’s caliber trouble. Confirms that my time was not wasted in studying it!
Damn one of my biggest take aways from this one is how to calculate calmly through an opponents prep even when you get into time trouble. Balls of steel 😎. I was sweating through that one!
Danya, you're a great teacher. One critique to note, from a viewer's perspective it's awkward to hear every sentence repeated verbatim.
