Its a ton of fun haha :D I've personally had a lot of games where that kind of hyper aggresive play works out (sacking the bishop for initiative on the king, etc), and once you get a taste of that drug its hard to resist. Unfortunately I often get impatient when calculating and I see a strong position that I feel should have some attacking ideas and I rush into it without actually finding them (or theyre not there) and then I fall apart. The biggest hurdle im dealing with these days in chess is knowing when to take my foot off the gas lol. (not the player from the game btw just another player who enjoys this style of play)
@@ignatiusenyo-ojo8406 learn the vienna and don't invent openings and don't experiment weird shit and play methodically - you'll easily win alot of games given that you pay attention to every move you make and try to pick up free pawns when possible
Hey Danya! I've been watching your videos for about a little over a year now and you really helped me develop my game past the 1500 level. I actually just won my first Collegiate/Scholastic tournament today (only 22 players but still) and in large part I have you to thank for that.
At 8:48 I checked with the engine, bishop takes f5 is actually the top move since after g4, the bishop simply retreats back to c8 and white loses initiative
Yeah I've only just watched this one but thought the same. No need to grab the g pawn too and walk into the trap, just pick up the f pawn, retain your pawns in the corner for the king, and drop the bishop back.
This reminds me of a boxing match between a street brawler and a professional boxer. The brawler swings wildly while the seasoned boxer covers up - but only temporarily. Eventually, the brawler wears himself out and it's the boxer who comes out swinging. A long time ago I coined a phrase for games like this. When my opponent's aggressive attack petered out, I would say, "He has run out of quarters." He can't keep the attacking going by inserting another quarter into the machine. He's done. GAME OVER.
Absolutely love the commentary while you are playing.. The explanation and thoughts behind both your and potentially your opponents really help me understand what I should be thinking about or looking for while I play.. Thank you and please keep them coming!!!!!!
12:28 I love how you describe this one-move-itis, I’m only 1300 but I notice how many players will immediately give checks with the Queen or bishop when they CAN, and it does absolutely nothing. It’s so much more valuable to wait and use that check to win material
Danya: „…and as often happens, it‘s white‘s king that ends up getting mated even though our opponent had the opposite outcome in mind.“ …and that‘s the Zen of the speedrun! 😅 Thank you for making this entertaining and instructive, looking forward to further speedrun games! 😊
Dear Daniel, thank you so much for your videos, they are extremely useful, instructive and interesting. You deserve at least a million subs, I appreciate your hard work, which is priceless.
Magnus had that game against Vincent Keymer in the world rapid championship where he brought his King forward to e3 on move 14 to defend the d4 Pawn. He then uses the King on the 2nd and 3rd ranks for the rest of the game (I remembered the game, but looked up the details).
@17:20 lol I recently clutched a game in this precise way. I was down a piece and two pawns in the endgame. Moved my king across the board to protect my rook, delivered simple ladder mate.
Thanks to the Prophet Naroditsky, my chess rating has been rising steadily. It really helps to explain the tought process of the moves and to analyze your games afterwards!
Imagine if Bobby Fischer had made home movies like this analyzing his games as he played them or replayed them. It would provide the window to his self-talk that we wanted to hear.
Have to push back on what you said in the match. After white pushes f5, you rule out Bxf5 as a bad move that walks into a trap. But even then, I thought Bxf5 was the better move, and if g4 then just drop the bishop back. Pawn structure in the corner is still good and whites given you a pawn for no gain
This video shows why GM unsound play is so successful at lower levels. Count the number of times how often Danya has to calculate a rathe tricky tactic correctly to nit either get mated or lose material. At lower level, it is just not likely that you get all those calculations currectly.
At 11:33, I see a flaw in your analysis. White can play the forcing g4! which should result in a win and no less than a draw. The move checks the Black king and almost forces White to accept the sac of the Bishop on h4, which is followed by Qg3+. That forces the King to g5 (no other move) followed by gxf5+. The pawn can't be captured or it's Qg4 mate. So the K is forced to the h file and then the question is whether White can somehow bring the R into play for mate... Otherwise White regains the sacrificed material with fxe6 (I doubt White can survive capturing with the Rook). White is left with an overwhelming position yet I don't see a forcing line that results in mate. A major branch in this line is if Black exchanges the pawns on g4 instead of the K capturing the Bh4 immediately, but I dismissed that because it opens up plenty of additional lines against the Black K which almost guaranteed the White R will be able to participate in the attack. I didn't put this into a computer which would obviously do better analysis than what I can offer, but what I described is pretty forcing. Additionally, side comment about the first half of this video... I appreciate that several chosen moves are the more practical choice which is fine if you're trying to burn less time and when you're the stronger player you have little reason to risk any more than necessary, but more aggressive choices exist that based on hard calculation don't lead to inferior positions. I'm talking particularly of the choice not to take the pawn f4 with the Nd5 and if not that then later Qd4 attacking both the Bc4 and the pawn f4. In fact, IMO unless you want to just leave the f4 pawn as a wasted move that resulted in a weakness that can be exploited at any time, the Qd4 maneuver might have been important to prevent White from playing an early d4, sacrificing the pawn to speed development of the QB.
Feel like this guy was playing blitz you can sometimes get away with these crazy lines in low time controls but when you can actually have time to think it just doesn’t work
I loved your opponent's style of play in this match. Yes, it was not sound, but remember he's got no idea he's playing against someone in the top 0.01% of players on earth. I love how you can see people's personality through how they play chess, and the creativity he's bringing is admirable. I hope he continues to improve.
This fucking dude is like "lemme track this game down..." Goes and just finds a perfect position explaining his point. Unreal. Danya is #1 chess fuckboi. I love you! 💕
This is the kind of game where I lose and want to throw my computer because the engine would say I'm up 5pts and I would definitely take that pawn with the bishop and get ripped by the double check.
King is a very strong attacking and defending piece, if it wasn't for the fact that you can't lose it I think it would be stronger than a Knight. Compared to the Knight it attacks the same number of squares, and is shorter range, but significantly less geometrically awkward.
Great videos, learning a lot from them. One issue I am having is how to take notes on these lines. Is it best to just write them up in word using notation? or are there specific programmes where I can make notes alongside a PGN etc. I think a video on how to study and take notes on openings beyond your videos would be very useful
I played this exact guy and he played the same crap Bf7 and we got the same position but I played Bf6 instead of gf5 and then I put the king on g7 and he got a very scary attack, only there was no attack 😆😆😆
Several people recently with the white pieces has sac the bishop on f7 for no comp, against me too. I don't know why but some things just get popular in lower Elo chess, like fads, that is just losing. I won all the times they did it.
That's what the engine wants by a tiny margin. It's just a little unsafe because you allow a potential knight fork on f7, although it's not an actual fork because of Qd4 check. And white doesnt have time to be capturing undeveloped rooks anyways
@@godfreyofbouillon966 Indeed, after the king is no longer on the f file. You’re trying to shut down the attack and prove that the sacrifice was unsound, not give him one.
