this album was great, but Christina just doesn’t care about commercial success. She just made music that she personally wanted to make. It’s so refreshing to see an artist that doesn’t care about sales.
@@thomaspritchard8903 I actually haven't even listened to or knew about Liberation until this video, but after a listen to the three singles mentioned - feel no need to either. I don't think Aguilera feels authentic in this genre at all, sounds like she tried to copy Beyoncé or some Avantgarde R'n'B artist. She sounds way better doing her legacy things. Yeah, Caution was such a great album! I'm eagerly waiting for something new, anything new. But perhaps Mariah wants to end her career on that acclaimed high note and not give a full studio album yet another chance to be slept on by the youngsters of today...
She left RCA last year actually and is with a label that I believe is associated with one of the producers of her Aguilera Spanish album, which was a project she seemed to really enjoy creating. Whether that brings success is unknown, but it looks like she at least has a trusted and passionate team with her now.
Liberation had some gems tho. Maria, Sick of Sittin’, Like I Do, Pipe, Masochist & let’s not forget, Unless It’s With You. Those are my go to’s when I revisit the album. ❤️✨
The album has many good songs, it just wasnt promoted properly and the single choices were bad, there should've been more music videos and performances. I disagree that her fans are fans because of dance, pop music, most of us love her specially because of stripped and back to basics, which are r&b and soul driven albums
Christina wasn't suppose stray far from her debut in 1999. That is what was suppose to catapult her into stardom but instead she went the hipster route with experimenting and look where it got her now 😅
@@KrisBryant15 what do you mean? Christina's reinventions in her Stripped and Back to Basic albums earned her critical and commercial success, if she had kept the radio pop formula she would have just faded away, but instead she took risks and left a mark in the industry.
Can you please review why Ashlee Simpson’s 3rd (& last) album Bittersweet world flipped in 2008?! I’m such a big fan of hers and kinda unfortunate that it didn’t do as well. For a future video
She stands on business and the industry/society detest women that are not meek, helpless, and weak. She stands her ground therefore she is deemed "rude".
There is also the fact that the general public doesn't support music from female artist who are over 30-35, unless if youre a taylor swift/beyonce or if its branded as a comeback album. Xtina at this point has been in the game for over 20 years, and people view their female pop stars as dolls that they get bored of in a year or two... people shouldn't expect crazy numbers from her, because the game is rigged against women particularly women of her age, they should just expect great music which she does, and quality tours which she does as well.
Liberation is one of my fave albums so I don’t really care if this album was not successful. Unless its with you, fall in line, Deserve are my fave songs
I think accelerate was bad enough to kill the entire era. RCA is a TERRIBLE label already so the amount of baffling choices here fully cut whaever potential the album had.
Success-wise, I think if Christina has a team behind her that really really want to support her success in a way that aligns with her creativity and intentions, she could definitely have a highly promoted era with singles and all the like and a chance of success. But at the end of the day, her alone she just is no longer the type of artist that chases sales and relevance in the way others may expect her to, and I’m sure she’s way more interested in making music that’s interesting and authentic to her, so if the music sonically isn’t resonating with set audiences and it doesn’t have the promotion to match, it makes sense that her work is no longer seen as ‘successful’ or interesting to casual listeners. Especially with an album like this whose main purpose was getting back to her truth and shedding things that felt too commercialized. I do think she appears to be very invigorated and welcoming of opportunities as of late, so perhaps we will get a project that is more focused on the masses, but it’s not something I expect to see as a fan personally. As a fan, (the following is of course personal opinion / perception) I feel like Liberation was a definite return to form, I love the tone of it, the themes and how she went back to experimenting with a sound for a record. I do wish it was longer and that she could delve further into the genre she was playing with like how she did with Back to Basics and Bionic, and I also wish there was even more ‘truth-telling’ songs akin to Stripped - it felt a bit of mix of those two things but not completely committing to either in the grandiose way that she has in the past (and perhaps those days are simply over). But after a six year break, I think we still got a record that had loads of authenticity and fun, and she returned to touring and eventually made way for really cool progressions like the Spanish album and the recent residency which were things I really enjoyed.
Everybody hated/hates accelerate and I vibed with it and it was during a good phase in my life so now when I hear it I feel good nostalgia and I love it it's a grower for sure tho
Unfortunately, Demi was sick during the “Fall In Line” performance and I think Christina’s voice was somewhat fatigued from promoting the schedule. What seemingly was supposed to be a showcase of powerful, female vocalists (something that’d been missing from the industry in comparison to the 2000s excluding JoJo, Tori, Little Mix, etc.) turned into a disaster. To me, it’s obvious that they wanted to give the audience an incredible vocal performance. But it just wasn’t in the cards given the circumstances.
So part of the reason for The vocal Mess Demi was having on the fall in line performance was because she was really sick During rehearsals she could barely get a note out properly with out it cracking it was doomed to fail
The hate campaigns against her worked, and she did nothing to make people stay on her side. Then she became this mom figure, which is great for her family, but not for her music. She stopped playing the game and the general public lost interest.
One of the reasons why Liberation did not do that well in my opinion was the promotion. Accelerate is not a bad song in my opinion but it was not what her fans seems to like. Personally I liked the fact that she tried something different, but when you want to make a majot comeback then you should really think about your hard core fans and what made you famous in the first place. I really hope that the next time she releases an english album that she will have the 2000´s nostalgia sound in mind. Trying to have that in mind but making it sound modern at the same time. 😊👍❤
I’ve been a Christina fan since the first album and honestly this album just wasn’t it. It just didn’t feel fresh or interesting and it lacked personality. At least ‘Lotus’ was trying to bring Christina back with songs that in one way or another resembled her previous hits. This album just had weak singles and it lacked promotion.
I think she made the mistake of releasing a provocative uptempo as the lead, a mistake she also did in 2010 with Bionic. Liberation has some of the most beautiful ballads she's ever done, so it's a pity her albums get judged by the uptempos which aren't all that great. But if we're being honest, there's no way for her to succeed in the current era. Even her vocal style feels like something from the 90s and early 00s. Unlike Beyoncé, who adapted her vocal style to the times, she's very much Christina. Just to clarify: I do love Christina as a singer; she's my fave. But her vocals are just not what's in at the moment.
As they say history repeats itself. Accelarate music video is very pornographic and she never learned from her past. Similar to not myself tonight lead single with pornographic theme destroy the whole album image because people just tired of her x rated theme. The music for me still amazing i listen to bionic album at least few times a month when i want to loosen myself lol. I still love her and support all her work forever.
The singles (apart from Think Twice) are so bad, its crazy how she came up with "Genie, What a Girl Wants, Come on over) to these messes are always beyond me 😭😭
What happened to Christina is her trying to maintain 20-something X-Tina at 44. She hasn’t been in her prime in at least a decade, and won’t let that part of her go. Constant abuse of her voice, the surgeries, constant gimmick shifts that last as long as the album cycles, and not great results. The songs aren’t cohesive with the album concepts. Imaginary beef with contemporaries and up-and-comers. Labels don’t know what to do with her as teams change, she’s not an in-demand artist anymore. She’s trying to be the “cool mom” with following the trends of her son’s peers and it’s not working. And that’s okay, she needs to pivot. She’ll be fine if her music matches the audience that’s keeping her afloat (i.e. millennials/gen z and past/present LGBTQ+). Get on the EDM/DJ tracks, residency/festivals every couple of years. Try judging a reality show again if she wants to make a bit of residuals.
I know that we all love her but can we cut to the bone The reason she is flopping is because she is not a generational queen all this generation do not know who she is but they all know who Britney is n Britney has not had an album since 2016 is even if they do recognise her songs they don't know its her It's the same with Avril everybody knows girlfriend but they don't know who sings it
Her career is very stable, she no longer needs to prove anything. Her success is actually being happy with her family and getting paid millions in private parties.
Boo boo I'm sorry but you're so wrong The liberation album went number 6 on the charts which is very hard for an album to do especially when it barely got any promotion and it stayed at number 6 for a good while. So that's not a flop you can't call something a flop if it's in the top 10.
She hasn’t been the same since Jordan. I think she lacks the work ethic of her peers (Beyoncé, Taylor Swift etc) and direction. I feel like she doesn’t want it. More so, almost every lead single of hers has been based around sex, it’s like ok I get it you love having sex. I don’t think her doing R&B is the issue considering most people think she sounds best when she’s doing R&B like stuff (Stripped, Back to Basics, Burlesque) I also think her being dubbed the mean girl swept her under the rug too. Not to mention the over singing doesn’t help. Idk… I love her but she’s just a waste of talent. So much potential and she’s just not where she should be
If you mean by work ethic is she doesn’t have the same drive to be always on top like Beyonce and Taylor, then I agree. She has huge control on Liberation and you can tell by the tracks that she’s more into expressing herself and be artistic rather than having a balance of also having a hit. I feel like she’s not as hungry and I think that’s what holding her back from getting a good comeback. Madonna and Mariah had ones because they had the drive. Girl only worked with Max Martin once and always seek for unknown or up and coming artists to work with like she did when Nicki when she was still a nobody. You could tell her label forced her to work with him. Love Your Body still is one of her most viewed YT videos with shitty promotion. Could’ve been a hit for her if they stuck with it a bit longer. I’m glad she’s singing that song from time to time though. Her Just Eat commercial going viral is proof that people can still be there for her as long as she’s releasing something catchy. It’s sad that a jingle has been the most radio-friendly she has released for years. I loved Liberation. And if she released Pipe as the first single, I think it would’ve been risky but would really set a different tone for the era. The demo for Accelerate was better. Hell, if she released one of the remixes rather than the Kanye one, it would’ve been a great start. That song killed any ounce of chance that album had. She was ridiculed after releasing that.
I loved Liberation…. SO good. Also Bionic was very good although with Bionic, that was decisions to put out because more than half was truly very good. Liberation was 3rd to me. I mean Stripped is on my top 5. The only one I thought was “bad” was Lotus and it just didn’t hit me right.
Not true. “Keeps Gettin’ Better” from 2008 is her last solo top 10 platinum hit. Also “Hurt” and “Candyman” are multiplatinum hits, which came after “Ain’t No Other Man”

There was stuff for core fans who might be more pop-favoring. Ballads like “Twice” for instance. The song “Maria” were not strictly R&B.
I love Sick Of Sittin so much
