My grandmother taught me this method back in the 1950's, but it is so good that you are spreading the lesson far wider. Some of the 'old' ways are still the best and are relevant today. Thank you for your wonderful tutorials - I have learned so much over the years I have followed you. I wish my pension would stretch to being a Patreon but it does not, unfortunately.
This is the method I learned ages ago from the instructions that came with the Coats and Clark zippers. I'm glad you brought it up because I wondered if people stopped doing it for a reason
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles I agree! I hate invisible zippers. I learned your method and never switched to invisible. I also like a lapped zipper which you can do with a very similar method. I a,so like hand sewing the lining like you do.
Thank you so much Katrina, you demonstrate sewing techniques so beautifully and you have helped me improve my sewing skills so much. You are without a doubt my " Go to " assistant !!!
This is roughly what I've been doing, but I never pressed the seams first and never finished the edges beforehand... good things to think about, thank you
So if the pattern doesn't have the zipper extension, can I add it? If so, how much should I add? And should I add only along the zipper area or should I do the whole seam?
You don’t need a zipper extension. You need to modify your original pattern to have at least 1/2” seam allowance on that seam and that’s it. This one shows the area to have 3/4” but it’s not really necessary

People seem to rave more about invisible zippers but I have never been convinced lol.
I’m just getting back into sewing. And I thought the same thing, that maybe somehow the old way was wrong! Thanks Karina for restoring my confidence
