This was the first video of yours I’ve watched and got addicted to your channel. And I found that there are hundreds of different “ ana-digi” models from different makers. Kudos you fixed it.
Hello there, I was working on the same watch and i happened to find a spring in my work area, I was wondering if there's any contact spring of sorts in the machine somewhere. As of now I have got no clue where the spring came out of
I’d have to look at mine again but usually a small coil spring is for the alarm. It sits upright in the module to contact the piezo speaker on the caseback.
I have the rounded, less desirable version😢 It's going well and I have a lifetime Timpsons battery card. You did a great job. The red hand is the only red there. As it's broken, the hand from the other mechanism would go with the yellow display. It looks great 👏
Not on this one no. I remove Watch hands on nearly every video so just look at my more recent analog watch videos. Coils are usually just held in with a screw. You just have to be really careful you don’t damage them.
Hello again.Moises from Spain. As always,I am learning a lot about watches world with your channel. Very impressed the way you make all kind of works. Always I have a chance, I buy a cheap lot of watch movements in order to pracrise,to learn about fails, servicing, find the fails, cleaning...etc. Now I have been able to buy a cheap citizen ana digi vey similar to the one on this video. I,ve tried to find what kind of fail it has. Install a new fresh battery, but lcd and mechanical watches ( time and seconds hand watch) both of them are dead.I,ve dissasembly it for at least three times.Check corrosion ( there was a few blue in some places but not a lot ). Check contacts, check free spin of both hands sets...but impossible. It continues dead. May be possible you to give me an idea about what the problem is? I think ther is no electric power on motherboard because watch is clean, and almost new except a few scratches on the case. Thanks in advance and again, excuse my really poor english.
First check coils for continuity. Remember the copper wire is just one piece so any break and it’s bad. Next check the tracks on the board for breaks. Last could be capacitor but I don’t know how to test these unless you have a manual to know what they could measure.
HI I use watchmakers Rodico. its like a type of putty / clay. just dab it on the parts to remove dust, fingerprints & grease. Here is a link to some amzn.to/2DLQivf
I have one who's now 40 years old, works fine, only when in case it't not making contact with the push button, works fine, but with the lid on not. Also watch out the coil is not vanishing into oblivion.I lost one when exchanging the battery.
Can you elaborate more on how to set a temp based alarm? Is this feature on all the ana digi temps? Mine takes a temp reading at the specified alarm time if the alarm is off or on but I dont know how to set an alarm if the temp goes below a certain point. (module 8989) Cheers
Center the step motor by wrapping a piece of paper around it. Steady the top of the step motor with tweezers and slipped the piece of paper out and it is centered.👍🏻✨
Hi! I have a 30-5511 / 8984-086333 - like your unfixable. You wouldn't happen to known were one could find a back gasket for it? Mine works 100% fine - but the gasket was mounted wrong and it just wasn't saveable.
I have one my late father gave me, it needs a service and new band. I'm hoping the battery was taken out year's ago but I highly doubt it. Do you think other than sentimental reasons, should I bother? Sorry I also "waffle" mate. Great video, you've got a new subscriber
Today (oktober 31, 2021) i inserted a new battery in my 8982, it was laying in a drawer for years and years... and it runs fine! only thing i noticed is that dates (years) are limited from 1980 to 2019 lol.. i don't care, but i wonder why that was limited.. but i'm happy that it's running again :)
@@MyRetroWatches Years ago I came across a Polish guy on a website who programmed the chip in a way that it could show the year in 2020 plus. Not sure how he did it.I was able to 'repair' the first one you had, I paid for the case and bracelet which were in excellent condition, the inner work was unfortunately not working had water damage. I bought a few weeks ago one that had the inner working in mint condition and swapped it to the good exterior. I had a scary moment when it turned out the battery wasn't the correct used in the watch. I was a pain in the back to have the battery back in, and then the scare display numbers looked chopped. Fortunately it works fine now. Only downside is that the analog background part is golden and not grey, How do I remove the back plate of analog and the hands without destroying the watch? I really enjoyed your video I got mine in 1984 , my late mom bought it for my 18th birthday was an expensive watch in those days.
Love your videos and i want to get into tinkering with watches myself. I recently bought exactly this watch because i think it looks awesome. It doesn't work and upon inspection it seems like it at some point had a battery leak inside of it. There are some blue "gunk" on the electronics and some discoloration here and there. When inserting a battery it doesn't fire up. Do you have any advice on how to fix it? I have some basic knowledge on electronics however i haven't worked on such small electronics before. Kind regards
a1topdog well observed . You are correct. You have to remove the dial and you would only see two for each section. Jewelled for the step rotor and non jewel for intermediate. The other two pivots have the hands attached. To film every step would have made this video around 1 hour which my UA-cam analytics suggests most of my videos are only viewed for 10 minutes...
Hi Michael, since a few days I am working on my Grandpas 8982 trying to restore it as best as i can as its pretty ravaged. I am managing everything pretty well, except the buttons. They tend to slip under the little metal lashes on the board and get stuck - the only way to fix that is to wiggle them out by opening the watch. Also one of the buttons seems to have lost whatever is holding it and is falling out. The board itself is a mess too, with hot glue (!) in there and bent metal. Do you think there is a way to fix this without buying a new case or board or everything? It was his most precious piece as it stood for the best time in his life, even after he bought it 2nd hand (1st hand wasn't nice to it). Cheers, Liam
Millenium first of all is it even working? The reason the buttons are slipping is because the module is not in place correctly. Common issue is that people remove the module and then knock a pusher before installing back. Make sure all pushers are pushed outwards from the inside. Carefully place back in the module and then you can check by gently pushing each one if it touches the contact and then pushes back out. Once all 4 work install caseback . I’ve done it many times myself. As for hot glue are you sure it’s not battery acid ? Why there would be glue present ?
@@MyRetroWatches Thank you for answering so quickly! Yes, the watch itself is working almost completely, only the alarm/chime doesn't work anymore. I tried your button method before I wrote the comment and and worked, but it looks like something damaged the left side. The buttons work while the watch is open, but while using it on my wrist put together again especially the left buttons jam again in no time. Also the upper one (mode) seems to be held only by it being bent a little, just a slight tap on top makes it slide out. And yes, it definetly is hot glue. It seems to hold the metal plating behind the green plastic cover in place. I'd assume damage to the screw holding the plate down which would lead to the LCD not working correctly due to lack of pressure. I've had that on another watch before, and this seems like a similar problem.
Millenium okay a few things to deal with here. Alarm is easy , probably lost its spring that contact the module to the ceramic part of the caseback. Get a used springbar ( what holds watch bracelets onto watches) break the end off to remove the spring. Cut to a small length and place one end in the hole on the top which is marked “spring” (I think) just be careful though because they are easily lost again if your still tinkering. Pushers are held in place by E or C clips . Google them as you can by selection packs of e clips on eBay . Pain to fit but doable easy enough with patience. Join my Facebook group Retro & Vintage Watches & Restorations , post up some pics of your watch and the problems and myself and no doubt others will come in to comment with help.
Was hoping I would see how you take the back off the watch I need to replace the battery 😔. Do you or anyone else have a link to show how this is done? Thanks in advance
I bought a very old Citizen P130 with a non working alarm. I am an amateur digital watch restorer and managed to get the alarm working again. Trouble is the alarm is very faint and I can barely hear it. Any ideas what to check?
Hi David , not really I have had this issue to and I have come to the conclusion that it can possibly be the piezo disc or even the spring that touches it.
@@MyRetroWatches Good morning. I also suspect the piezo needs to be replaced. Also, both springs are touching the piezo too. But it is okay. I will keep as is. Just curious if I am suffering hearing loss. 😅
Hello, I'm restoring a similar watch. For that reflective back screen with the battery acid damage, you say that at a later date you may paint it. Is it ok to paint that? Does it have to be a special paint of some sort? Thanks in advance!
It's not that difficult just watch out you don't lose the alarm coil, before you know it it has moved to some other dimension. It can be a hassle, but you need a silver oxide one, last longer as an ordinary one : type 381 SR1120SW

The seconds hand doesn't match with the digital ones 27:51 .
The analog shows 30 seconds and the digital 11 .
George Iceman they won’t unless you set them. You set both analog and digital independently. In theory making them duel time zone .
