- Baritone Stephen Powell sings "There but for you go I" from Lerner and Loewe's Brigadoon with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, October 22, 2006. Conducted by Craig Jessop, from "Music and the Spoken Word", broadcast # 4025.
Absolutely perfect! Wonderful song, music and singing! I loved this! Thank God for You Tube. TV is lost forever.
Dear Maestro,
you have one of the most beautiful Baritone voices that I ever heard in my life.
GOD BLESS YOU......Thanks for your sublime art!!!!!!

This was fantastic. It was not over-sung (as is common with professional opera singers- Sometimes, one cannot hear the pitch for the vibrato....). What a gorgeous piece... This truly made my day.
Glorious instrument and artistry. More please.
I think this is one of the all time most extraordinary love songs -- and completely underrated! I frequently perform it in my "Trivial Broadway" show (though I am a woman) and I always sing it in my "History of Broadway" classes. Mr. Powell has a remarkably beautiful voice.
Majestic and gorgous! Brilliantly performed. I have sung this song before and know what a challenge it is to sing. Mr. Powell, my compliments. Bravo!
An extraordinary performance! I wish I'd heard this singer before. Fantastic voice.
Mr.Powell is among the better baritones I've ever seen. That song "There but for you go"
is another masterpiece from Lerner and Loewe. "Brigadoon" was an unforgettable movie... And The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the best of the world. Just that.
Wonderful! It was great to have him as Rigoletto at Cincinnati Opera as well. He was a great Rigoletto. Steeped in the tradition of the great old singers who knew what they were doing!!
To say I am stunned is an understatement. Hands down the absolute BEST version of this song I have ever heard. What an incredibly amazing voice !!! BRAVO !!!
You have used your gift superbly !
This performance is really moving. Wow, just beautiful.
To add to my below comment, the addition of choir is fantastic and the accompaniment is fantastic. All work together flawlessly. Truely this is art.
Good God what a gorgeous voice!
Mr. Powell is our Giorgio Germont in "La Traviata" here in New Orleans next week -- April 17 & April 19. I have every reason to attend the performances after hearing this superb singer.
Glorious! Of all the singers I've heard perform this piece this is the absolute best! Magnificent, full voice equal to the gorgeous accompaniment. Love it!
Beautiful voice. Such gentle passion.
One of the most beautiful voices I’ve heard ever. Goosebumps.
This is my favorite rendition of Tommy Albright's only solo from Lerner and Loewe's "Brigadoon." The key change was not in the original American version of the score but is very much welcomed. The navigation in the passagio is effortless and the sound is just gorgeous. The E's and F#'s are flawless. Congratulations!
Dear Mr Powell,
What a treat to hear you sing this beautiful piece, sincere best wishes

I only recently discovered this song, and this is certainly the best rendition I have heard of it. Truly a lovely dynamic performance. I especially liked the little punch on the final "GO". Added some great intensity. Really really beautiful
Wow! Thank you, Mr. Stephen Powell, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir! I have loved this song since I grew up listening to the Jack Cassidy version from the original Broadway cast album. This song is so very moving and you make it even more exhilarating! This is now my favorite version of this song. Mr. Powell, your voice is perfect.
Lush, warm sound, superb soloist, perfect orchestration, impossibly beautiful choral sound and phrasing! What more could one ask for? Many thanks!
ah, glorious....what a superb sound....the choir never fails and mr. powell has a great rich tone.
this gave me chills. GLORIOUS!
..beautiful..
Wow, such beautiful singing as usual, Stephen!
Fantastic, buddy!!

Stephen Powell, it doesn't get better then this, thank you!!!
I saw you in Grapes at Carnegie. You were wonderful. My friend in the cast told me you were looking at starting to do things like Rigoletto and other such roles. I look forward to hearing more of you. This was beautiful!
Absolutely Gorgeous
At last, a singer who has a solid technique! I don't know whom he studied with but whomever it was, they had an understanding of breath control and voice placement! Wonderful to listen to! I look forward to hearing more from Mr. Powell.
in times such as these.....the bar has been terribly lowered
Exquisite rendition!!
Beautiful.
Recently after serenading at a seniors luncheon in Northern Utah a woman approached saying that she loved Brigadoon in response to our rendition of "Its Almost Like Being in Love". Then she stated that "There But For You Go I" was not done on Broadway and . . ... it was my husband's favorite musical song". Well, what do you do? Open your songbook of treasures and sing this impassioned tune for 'There But For . . . . .Go I. With key change.
Really really good.. very difficult song
Very Strong Base II
@SaverinoMusic Because this is how people with faith feel about God - we see people without faith and without God, and we feel for them, and we know that there but for God go we :)
Mr Powell beside of having a first quality super beautiful instrument, you have a suprime technique.
who did you study with?
My sincere congratulations.
Gustavo
Orley, I'll definitely look you up, as we are going to visit Mr. G during our stay. Perhaps we can even meet together, I'm sure Mr. G would like to see you also. We'll be in touch. Thanks for getting back to me! Have a great summer.
Orley, how wonderful to hear from you! I hope you and your loved ones are doing well. My family and I are doing extremely well. We'd love to get back in touch with you, and we're coming to Chicago in September, so please let me know how to contact you. And thanks for your kind words!

Well said.
Greatest baritone of all time. Better than Robert Merrill. He doesn't spare the horses.
I have to retract my fomer statement. I went to his, Website and listened to him singing opera, he is doing the same thing Thomas Hamson did to his voice. I sang with Tom in Darmstadt Opera back in the early 1980's, He came to sing, Der Prinz Von Homburg, he had a beautiful, Lyric Baritone voice, I heard him several years later and he was singing, Verdi, Wagner and some of the havier roles, his voice was, throaty, not the same voice I heard, before. I hear the same problem with, Mr.Powell, shame!
