    This is a great idea. I was considering building a wood frame but the total weight to transport by person would be terrible. This is an awesome idea, thanks for making it! I bet that folding table was a hint?

      Well I have made a couple other solar suitcases before so the table was just helping 😂👍🏼👊🏼

    Very neat job Johnny. I wanted to do something like this with the 2 HF 100w's that I have. This helps a lot, thanks! 👍

      Thank you !! And yes this is so much easier to move panels around or if I need to let people borrow stuff.
      I need to do the other set now..👍🏼
      And you’re welcome 👍🏼😀

    When you buy hinges they tell you what the proper screws to use are to match the countersink. Also try piano hinges next time. Much nicer and they're cheap. Just cut to size

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  2 роки тому +5

      Yea the supplied screws come with the hinges but are obvious wood. And man the selection of hardware at the store is poor right now, I would have use a slightly smaller screw so the head wouldn’t be proud but that’s what they had that was close.
      And the hinges I think were $2.89

      @@johnnysweekends true that. You can also use a tap on a drill with aluminum if you use the clutch and appropriate drill bit. with 40w motor oil.. you can make it look real slick.

      Yea while ago I did a nice 50 watt to make a 100 watt but that’s not enough for much of what I’m doing, but I made it look all trick spent some extra time on.
      No body ever cares 😂 so now it’s back to quick and functional 🤣

    Great idea and video! I have 1 HB panel, ill get another when i get a coupon or it goes on sale. Do you think the panels could be attached so the glass face each other and get protected?

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  2 місяці тому

      You can have it face each other if you want 👍🏼

    This is great but how do you traneport it W/O damaging the panels?

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  Рік тому +1

      You would be surprised how tough they are but some foam board or a blanket it really all you need unless you plan to thrash it but I hauled a foldable many times. All in how you treat it

    I have those panels and was looking to do the same. I wanted to have solar face inward though so something doesnt hit it in storage. Same idea you did should still work right??
    And I was looking at double hung window latches as for the latch part.

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  2 роки тому +3

      I have done it both ways but it seems the stronger part of the solar panel is the outside as that part of the glass it meant to take hits. Even a small chip or crack and most times the panel can still put out close or full power. Depends how deep and back the crack is.

    Why wouldn't you have oriented them so they close with the solar sensors facing to the inside so they're protected?? Nice job, none the less! 👍👍

    I recommend for novice building individuals to put a metal plate or wooden board of some sorts underneath your drilling to protect your panel from accident puncturing and damage the panels ❤️‍🩹💪🇺🇲👍🏻..Great idea.. brother 💪🌎🇺🇸

    Good idea but there's about half a dozen ways to have cut that hinge without using tin snips while riveted.

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  Рік тому +1

      Thanks, and yes several ways to cut it. Dremal, hack saw, cutting wheel and more. Those where right there and no cords or any attachments. Less time then getting something out and finding a wheel. By the time I would have got a cutting tool out I was already done 👍🏼

    Okay if you want it to MC cable sent without ever have to change it even get Walmart's app look up solar panels look up 100 watt solar they'll sell for about $79 and some change for blue solar panels that is slightly higher amperage just a tiny bit smaller but they are a little bit more amps to it harbor freights solar panels. But your neck shift to look through my foot through the Walmart apps because they show all kinds of solar panels more kinds 100 watt solar panels for more money. I bought the blue solar panels because they start making power three hours before the black ones do you make power 2 hours after the black-and-white stop making power it's pretty cloudy out or the black one stop making power blue ones will still make power and they got just a little bit more amps to them. But I do have six harbor freight solar panels. But I did find the ones that Walmart has I bought some of those and they seem to do better than Herbert freights solar panels don't get me wrong I'm not getting rid of Herbert freights solar panels they do give me some power the poly solar panels at a 100 watt and slightly smaller gives me more power. Special When they said Polly solar panels are worse and makes less power I find that they are lying because my Polly solar panels at the exact same wattage makes the more power than the mono solar panels and to be fair I run them both at 12 volts and I've been doing that for a year now Anna blue ones are still making more than the black ones yes I like the Monocrystalline solar panels but I like the polycrystalline solar panels as well and besides I like the difference in colors in my yard.

    question: why not have them fold inward, so the solar cells would be somewhat protected by the aluminum frame?

    Bonjour très bonne idée c'est ce que je voulais faire aussi avec soit 2 panneaux solaires de 80w ou 3 de 50w je trouve sa vraiment bien sa permet de pouvoir bien suivre le soleil et être étanche à la pluie car même avoir des panneaux solaires sur le toit de notre caravane sa ne fonctionne que a 100% que quand le soleil est au plus haut de la journée cordialement 😊

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  11 місяців тому

      that’s why you try to over panel some for low light conditions. unfortunately 200 watts is about minimum if you want to charge anything.

    Harbor Freight solar panels come with SAE connectors not Anderson.
