Excellent work and interview as always Alex. I just added a blue IWC Pilot Chrono 41 yesterday and it's a terrific watch. In addition to the easy change system and micro adjust clasp, their proprietary link removal system is absolutely terrific. No more screw drivers or strap tools needed! I had the bracelet shortened in five minutes. Great innovation by the IWC engineers!
Looking forward to purchasing a 43 mm big pilot and getting all three band options. The CEO is extremely bright and passionate. 43 is such a great size, thank you 🙏
This is for you Alexander, just met Chris in Dubai boutique and I cannot emphasize on how humble he was. Luckily I was wearing my SFTI and he commented on it. I did mention that I saw him before on UA-cam through watch advisor and he immediately said “Ah Alexander, amazing man”. Now I love the brand ever more. 😂👌
@@WatchAdvisor Thanks for your content, have watched Watches and Wonders all day.... I think IWC and that incredible 4 face JLC Reverso have so far stollen the show!!!
Great interview Alex, I love the new smaller "Big Pilot". As the man says it's ergonomically attractive to more folks. Also, the quick change straps, new calibres with the use of silicon components and the green dials make the pilot's watches very attractive. Chris also seems like a very affable, tuned in kind of CEO. Great job by you, thanks much for your work.
Thank you very much for the kind feedback! That new "Big Pilot" was overdue... like that much more convenient size a lot... also suitable for woman now... that interchangeability of straps and bracelets is breathtaking...
Very nicely conceived and executed pieces from iwc. The only critic I want to utter is about the polished links on the bracelets. I would like to have a fully brushed option please. Well done iwc, well done Alex!
Chapeau Alexander! The most detailed introduction to Novelty watches Ive seen anywhere. If this will be the deep dive into each brand, the effort is truly amazing!
Thank you! I won't be able to see every one in the next days, but with the brands I do expect nothing less than this... There is more to come later of course...
I don't love the quick change system from Zenith, Hublot, IWC ... They basically assume that you buy tha strap from the manufacturer. You can get a handmade high quality leather strap for a lot less money compared with IWC's Santoni straps.
It's so strange how company insiders and decision makers see things (i.e. priorities) so differently from someone like me. I was counting on an updated IWC Aquatimer and Mark XVIII with 32110 caliber. But looking at their releases now I totally get what they are doing. Love the new stuff, I think both the 41 chrono and the 43 BP are a knockout. Really, they are fantastic.
The Portugieser and the Pilot's watches are the two bestsellers of the brand... In weird and difficult times you don't make any experiments, you focus on your strengths ...
Brilliant to be able to offer live interviews again - well done, Alexander (and Christoph). Unfortunately, IWC are falling off my radar due to sizing, co-branding and pricing. A lot will ride on the next generation Mark XX, which must return to it's non-flieger roots and design.
I have one critic for the CEO, ı tried to reach their procurement department regarding to the Bronze alloys they use on their watches. The reason behind my approach is we are casting bronze alloys which wont change colours with time, but their procurement was not interested and closed the phone. I asked him we can send free of charge sample for tests. Bealive me i wont earn money for this probably 5 tons of bronze castings wont effect my company but i want it to improve the watch world. Only Oris interested in. anyways thats the story i have. They need to be open minded.
IWC great move into versatility with the Big Pilot 43 - hopefully all other models will be included in the new easy bracelet and strap exchange, this will increase business especially with women for 40 mm sizes
The watch must be changed... a different type of spring bar is all you need and you may attach the new straps/bracelets once they match the length in between the lugs...
@@WatchAdvisor Danke für die Info, das habe ich mir gedacht, dass wäre ein strap business für bisherige modelle - würden viele Kunden sicherlich mitgehen
Beautiful product, the new 43mm big pilot with the blue dial. Big, big applause to the niftiest of tricks with the bracelet, the micro adjustable clasp. It’s a detail, but one that makes the deal where others break the deal and could lead to some sell a watch because of big discomfort. it’s is essential.
@@WatchAdvisor ordered one. They’re not in yet. The boutiques might have mark ups.. going tomorrow. The lume on it is like the PP timezoner..every Arabic is lumed.
The Big Pilot in 43mm look lovely, however it’s still too big for me 16cm wrist. I hope they make a similar no date version with that nice bracelet in a small size like 39-40mm in the future.
@@knowyourhistory They don’t have a nice bracelet with a quick adjustment clasp and a in house movement with 60hrs power reserve. However they are nice watches for the price category they serve.
The Big Pilot is a nice watch. I do think it's (how shall I say?) "interesting" that they talk about their heritage in terms of the civilian aviation watches they made in the 1930s, and the military watches they made for the British RAF in the 1950s. But the closest design origin of the Big Pilot watch is kind of coyly airbrushed out... Let's be honest here: IWC made a B-Uhr for the German Luftwaffe during WW2. Own it guys! This is history. (Anyway, the watch wasn't to blame for anything. Watches don't do politics!)

IWC easily could be a better watch company than what it is today. They just need to up their finesse, more in-house movements, stay as much as possible below the 42mm mark and do better marketing campaigns.
Almost the entire collection has in-house calibres meanwhile, staying below 42 mm is difficult when you sell the kind of watches IWC successfully does for decades now... What would you change with marketing campaigns?
@@WatchAdvisor I think they need to explicitly address the lifestyles associated with their watches in their marketing campaigns. For example, look at how Patek Philippe does it. They deliberately try to paint a picture of what it means to be a Patek watch owner. They incorporate a lot of memories, emotions and romance in their marketing. IWC also has a story to tell and I think putting more emphasis on that would embolden their market presence.
