Trains are operated on the Oregon Pacific Railroad and depart from Oaks Park Station adjacent to Oaks Park in southeast Portland. We rode on this very same train Dec 5th 2009. Our twin boys LOVED it! We now plan to make this a yearly Family Holiday tradition.

Awesome video. Got a good one of her taking off saturday at the 4:00 departure. Took my 2 year old daughter on it and she totally loved it. Even the take off. SP4449 next weekend! I'll be posting my little vids sometime this week...5 stars...great video

I am the meanest SOB out here when it comes to ripping on rail fans. Mainly cause I was 'an officer' for the C&NW outta Itasca WI. I've lightened up since and must say you have absolutely gorgeous videos, product and entertainment. Please remember this is a place of business but as I see it, these parent roads can't be so uptight when they run equipment that beckons you (er fans) track side. Thanks for posting and showing respect for this dangerous yet intriguing mode of transportation.

Amazing video Ervans ! you are so lucky to have those wonderful steam loco still operational in USA ! cause in Canada all ours steam loco are in museums except for the John Molson steam loco that is still operational but for show in delson Quebec at the railroad museum ! i always be amazed by those wonder ! but the story of some of them are a sadly shame , the Canadian national had a hundred of the "confederation" being built for them only six survive and are in museum ! thanks so much ! @MichaelHeida It's cause it is probably cold outside, steam condenses more when it's colder than warmer. Happens to every steam engine.
@4inches4u - It's just water vapor. Besides, 700 is an oil burner so there are no coal cinders or sparks to ignite a fire anyway.

@rpblcan actually not necessarily---you are watching steam being emitted not smoke. so how bad it pollutes depends on what they are burning. But Diesel burns real dirty, so is possible that it pollutes less than most trains today.

@tommyangelo1 There is no "job" per-sey with this rail road. It's all volunteer work. This, the SP 4449, and the OR&N 197 are owned by the city of Portland Oregon, while being ran and maintained by volunteers and the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation.
could of should of got those joggers when letting off , can you believe they run and dont look at the fire monster coming up behind

Nice shot! Looked like a volcano coming down the track... Love the HD video - I've been in the market for an HD cam for a while, just not sure which one to get.
Just out of curiosity, does your HG20 perform well in low light?
