  • So the Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird is pretty much finished up now, just a couple of small jobs to do, then we can work out if it was all worth it!
It's been a lot of fun making this iconic bike beautiful again, after she was left outside for so long, but it's amazing what you can do with a few quid, and a little time.
One final thoughts video to come.... then this One is done!!!!

Just Sean this video, just to clarify I have a 97 carb bird with 146bhp at rear wheel and I know a chap with a 2000 bird, injection, with 150bhp at rear wheel.
I agree that it is heavy to pick up off stand but it is well balanced when rolling and handles fantastically for its size, I have no chicken strips on tyres and I'm 58yrs old. Let's see more vids like this 👍🏻

Totally agree regarding the weight, tough to move around due to it's low centre of gravity, but once rolling it weighs nothing! not sure about the BHP figures though, from myt research it is around 136 at the rear? but after market exhausts and racing filters could well add a few more 😁

Bike looks wonderful. Surprised you haven't had ex owners shouting 42lb front and rear for tyre pressures. Start from there and adjust as you need to make it ride as you like. Ours was a blue Blackbird as well, and they still look fantastic in blue. Happy riding, and be safe. Cheers from Rolfy and Jan 😊 xx

Orange peel in paint is caused by lack of sanding in between coats of paint. Then one your final coat is on and you lacquer it, you need to rub down and polish.

All the factory horse power figures are from the crank, except for a Harley Davidson perhaps. HP at the rear wheel is about 20-25% of the hp at the crank.
So a BMW or Ducati with 200bhp actually has about 175 at the rear wheel.

My carb bird measured about 135 at the rear wheel on a rolling road. The details on wikipedia can be taken with a pinch of salt.

I have peg lowering kit and VFR800 bars and with a custom seat makes it so comfortable. The Bird is mild mannered, easy and smooth up to about 5-6000, after that she will really start to perk up and take off. You were only tickling her but I guess you have to be a bit sensible if you're publishing the video.
I put a good quality manual CCT on mine, it is just a fit (and check after 100 mile) and forget mod.
They do get hot in slow moving traffic but as long as the fan comes on don't worry about it. I mean a flush is always a good idea. After 21 years my hoses are still fine but I'll be putting some Samco silicone (in black) on mine and fitting the Medimoto rad cap the raises the boiling point a bit. You can get thicker ally Chinese rad's but it's only really if you follow a lorry to closely or sit in town traffic on warm/hot days that she'll get hot. It's one of those "They all do that, Sir" jobs.
Being a Plymouth boy, check out Quicky Bikes channel, quality.

Because honda spent time hiring engineers for research and development on a automatic cam chain tensioner and you go and replace with a manual one ...most claim they can hear when its "ok" cam chain noise
How are you sure that if it's ok?
Wouldn't it be easier to replace with a new oem cct

  • @stevecowham1017

Orange peel, keep the humidity and temp. Lower. It gives the paint the time to pan out. HP doesn't win races, (helps), torque does. The Bird has oooodles of that.

Great job on the clean up! Linear power is what the BB has..no power band, unlike my FZR 600R Genesis, where all hell breaks loose after 6000 rpm.
The BB is sooo smooth and the power delivery is just sublime, pulls from 20 mph in 6th all the way.

Hello mate, really enjoyed this series of videos as Im considering a fairing kit from them as well. Couple questions if I may?
    1. How did you get the RHS fairing to line up better after your initial fitting had a gap that was annoying you (and would annoy me too!)?
    2. Whatvwas the result of you contacting them about the scuffed rear cowl?
Thanks again, enjoyable and informative videos! 👍

    • @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes
      @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes  Рік тому +1

I just kept moving things around until the gap was acceptable Jon, bit of trial and error, but nothing to difficult. The company (Monster Fairings) actually sent out replacement parts for all the bits that had issues, new tank cover, new rear seat cowl, and even a new front nose fairing!
      Hope that helps a little.

    • @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes

Hi Darren, in some ways I would recommemd Monster Fairngs yes, their customer service is brilliant! they actually sent me another nose cone, rear section, AND tank cover ...as the first lot had some very small marks! but the Orange peel is horrible! and no decal on the tank cover which was annoying.
