A good chunk of this movie was filmed in my hometown, Clermont. The scenes with the bickering twins were filmed in my classmates yard, the farm on the top of the big hill was my uncles, the bar scene was filmed in the Old Times Inn Bar and Grill (Now the Turkey River Saloon). It's like stepping into my past. I can also see the pizza place where my sister works, my grandmas old store, and the fire fighters and extras were locals we all knew!
I have always loved Richard Farnsworth and was just heartbroken to learn he committed suicide awhile after this movie cause he was in so much pain from his cancer. They said he was in a lot of pain during the filming of this but was such a great actor he just pushed on through. RIP Richard.
Richard Farnsworth. I own this movie on VHS. I wore it out. He was just so good. The scene with the woman hitting deer. Exemplifies the modern Human Condition. The inevitability of Damage Done through mere existence. This movie truly Beggs examination.
This movie periodically appears on free to air in Australia and I have watched it at least half a dozen times now - it never fails to delight - thank you for this background
Thank you for publishing this! This is one of my favorite movies of all times. Richard Farnsworth's portrayal of Alvin Straight reminds me of the determination that my father showed in his life.
it is amazing to see how they make movies not so glamorous. richard seemed like he was a down to earth person so cool. loved him we lost a good one.R.I.P. RICHARD.
Saw this movie when first released . Absolutely surprised .l almost walked out , sure glad I didnt . I've watch this movie at least a hundred times I recently learned he made this movie while suffering horribly from cancer . This was reason he ended his suffering on his terms . I can respect that choice .
Richard and Harry have my coat and shirt on🤣🤣🤣, Jesus David, saw you in "Lucky" , didn't know you were a director, I'm a country girl, too busy till now🤣🤣🤣, actually, still busy🤣
Vinton Iowa Community theater (A non profit) will be showing this movie January 8th, 2025. I've been told they pay $10 or $20 to the copywrite holder and all is kosher. It does get people out of the house for the night. One small town Iowa quirk is the theater manager complains only 60% of the people coming to the theater is from Vinton. Kind of a backhanded statement. Locals welcome. Out of towners stay away if that makes the 60% go up.
The footage is 3/4 inch video, direct from Walt Disney Studios. It was distributed to movie reviewers to promote the move. I worked on the production and release of the movie.
@@wgb6 Were you on set during filming at the Mt. Zion Bar in Mt. Zion, WI? I grew up on County Rd W, 2 miles from Highway 61. We stopped by and stayed around while you guys were filming. I think it was Sweeney who took a liking to my little sister and she gave my sister a Princess Die beanie baby.
The Straight Story is a great film. I spent about 8 months working on the film, and I hope it is sucessful for you and everyone in and around Vinton. I aways liked Vinton and I had hoped to shoot a movie in your town someday. Take care.
I think this one of the best movies ever. Richard Farnsworth was a great actor. The movie is very touching.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to sit around a campfire with this gentle man and listen to his stories.
This is one of my favourite film. ❤❤❤ he said, the worst part of being old, is remembering when you were young, brilliant.

What I've heard, he wanted to finish filming because of his respect to real Alvin Straight. His performance was absolutely brilliant.
Nhìn chú Richard William Farnsworth với ba mình giống nhau từ khuôn mặt và vóc dáng.
Bless him! I didn’t know that. He was a great actor I hope he’s in a better place free from pain.
Beautiful movie. Nothin' but treasure. One of my favorites.
When Alvin says 'look up at the sky Rosie' and then he looks at her with so much love. Its genius. Couldnt hold back the tears.
He was so Handsome even in this movie! Loved the old guy
I cried too, because of the way he said it and having that father daughter moment. That touched my heart.
Richard Farnsworth should of won a Oscar for his performance.
Who win Oscar that year?😢

I spent a lot of time with Richard Farnsworth the last year of his life. He was a very humble and kind man. It was my privilege to have known him.

Is this footage from a VHS copy or one of the DVD copies?
VHS I think. I have the DVD and it don't have these extras.
