I love this interview and the animation. I will always associate it with the person whom I considered at the time to be the love of my life. We watched and listened together on the couch with tears in our eyes, knowing we had something special. We’ve left one another since, but Two went to sleep will always have a bittersweet tone to it, at least to my ears.

I'm never going to get over his passing. I loved his music and his poetry, so amazing! This makes me want to cry. I didn't discover Leonard Cohen till 2009 right after I turned 21. I was in a very depressing state and wanted to kill myself. A friend of mine borrowed my iPod and uploaded some music on to it, I hadn't gone through all of the artists yet so I had no idea what was on there. Anyway, I was walking around town, listening to my iPod on shuffle, thinking about blowing my brains out. It was a warm summer evening, and I had just snorted some OxyContin and was just trying to figure myself out, I was lost. All of a sudden a song popped up that stopped me dead in my tracks. It was "The Butcher" by Leonard Cohen, I just stood there listening to the strange lyrics and found myself mesmerized by this song. I decided to see if I had more of his stuff on there and lo and behold! I had 3 full albums on there. "Songs Of Leonard Cohen", "Songs From A Room", and "Songs Of Love And Hate". I clicked on a song titled "Avalanche" and the crazy guitar strumming mixed with the intense lyrics sucked me in and I instantly changed the way I looked at the world. I became a hardcore Leonard Cohen fan!!! You will be missed Mr. Cohen, thank you for saving my life.

    • @Radagast-
      @Radagast- 8 років тому +1

@Juaquin Rodriguez: The sound that Cohen achieves is not by strumming, but picking in triplets (bass note, followed by G and then B strings, usually)... Search on here for "The Stranger Song," or "The Partisan;" he uses the same technique in those songs. To get the sound that he does requires a great deal of skill... hours (years?), of practice to achieve that kind of right hand speed.

Yes Kurt maybe would have done better as a spoken word musician more than the superstar they tried to make him he seemed really uncomfortable and miserable which I guess he was. Cohen did not have those same industry pressures on him the 60s were different than the 90s.

    Two went to sleep
    almost every night
    one dreamed of mud
    one dreamed of Asia
    visiting a zeppelin
    visiting Nijinsky
    Two went to sleep
    one dreamed of ribs
    one dreamed of senators
    Two went to sleep
    two travellers
    The long marriage
    in the dark
    The sleep was old
    the travellers were old
    one dreamed of oranges
    one dreamed of Carthage
    Two friends asleep
    years locked in travel
    Good night my darling
    as the dreams waved goodbye
    one travelled lightly
    one walked through water
    visiting a chess game
    visiting a booth
    always returning
    to wait out the day
    One carried matches
    one climbed a beehive
    one sold an earphone
    one shot a German
    Two went to sleep
    every sleep went together
    wandering away
    from an operating table
    one dreamed of grass
    one dreamed of spokes
    one bargained nicely
    one was a snowman
    one counted medicine
    one tasted pencils
    one was a child
    one was a traitor
    visiting heavy industry
    visiting the family
    Two went to sleep
    none could foretell
    one went with baskets
    one took a ledger
    one night happy
    one night in terror
    Love could not bind them
    Fear could not either
    they went unconnected
    they never knew where
    always returning
    to wait out the day
    parting with kissing
    parting with yawns
    visiting Death till
    they wore out their welcome
    visiting Death till
    the right disguise worked

All the poem was for me is words that sound nice together. I got no meaning at all. It was a wandering surreal monologue with no purpose, unless it was to suggest that the two could never find any connection outside of sleep but always came back for that anyhow. Which means nothing to me either. I didn't really like it. But then, I've written poetry many times and always hate it later.

    Dos se fueron a dormir
    dos viajeros
    El largo matrimonio
    en la oscuridad
    El sueño era viejo
    los viajeros eran viejos
    uno soñaba con naranjas
    uno soñó con Cartago
    Dos amigos dormidos
    años encerrados en viajes
    Buenas noches mi amor
    mientras los sueños se despedían
    uno viajó a la ligera
    uno caminó por el agua
    visitando un juego de ajedrez
    visitando un stand
    siempre regresando
    esperar el día
    Uno llevaba fósforos
    uno trepó a una colmena
    uno vendió un auricular
    un tiro a un alemán
    Dos se fueron a dormir
    todos los sueños fueron juntos
    vagando
    desde una mesa de operaciones
    uno soñó con pasto
    uno soñaba con radios
    uno regateó muy bien
uno era un muñeco de nieve
    una medicina contada
    uno probó lápices
    uno era un niño
    uno era un traidor
    visitando la industria pesada
    visitando a la familia
    Dos se fueron a dormir
    nadie pudo predecir
    uno fue con cestas
    uno tomó un libro mayor
    una noche feliz
    una noche de terror
    El amor no pudo atarlos
    El miedo tampoco pudo
    se desconectaron
    nunca supieron donde
    siempre regresando
    esperar el día
    separarse de los besos
    despedirse con bostezos
    visitando la muerte hasta
    ellos gastaron su bienvenida
    visitando la muerte hasta
    el disfraz correcto funcionó

      uno viajó a la ligera
      uno caminó por el agua
      visitando un juego de ajedrez
      visitando un stand
      siempre regresando
      esperar el día
      Uno llevaba fósforos
      uno trepó a una colmena
      uno vendió un auricular
      un tiro a un alemán
      Dos se fueron a dormir
      todos los sueños fueron juntos
      vagando
      desde una mesa de operaciones
      uno soñó con pasto
      uno soñaba con radios
      uno regateó muy bien
uno era un muñeco de nieve
      una medicina contada
      uno probó lápices
      uno era un niño
      uno era un traidor
      visitando la industria pesada
      visitando a la familia
      Dos se fueron a dormir
      nadie pudo predecir
      uno fue con cestas
      uno tomó un libro mayor
      una noche feliz
      una noche de terror
      El amor no pudo atarlos
      El miedo tampoco pudo
      se desconectaron
      nunca supieron donde
      siempre regresando
      esperar el día
      separarse de los besos
      despedirse con bostezos
      visitando la muerte hasta
      ellos gastaron su bienvenida
      visitando la muerte hasta
      el disfraz correcto funcionó

Very nice interpretation of his poem. How many hours does an episode like this take to animate?

      Dos se fueron a dormir
      Dos se fueron a dormir
      casi todas las noches
      uno soñó con barro
      uno soñado con Asia
      visitando un zepelín
      visitando Nijinsky
      Dos se fueron a dormir
      uno soñaba con costillas
      uno soñaba con senadores
      Dos se fueron a dormir
      dos viajeros
      El largo matrimonio
      en la oscuridad
      El sueño era viejo
      los viajeros eran viejos
      uno soñaba con naranjas
      uno soñó con Cartago
      Dos amigos dormidos
      años encerrados en viajes
      Buenas noches mi amor
      mientras los sueños se despedían
      uno viajó a la ligera
      uno caminó por el agua
      visitando un juego de ajedrez
      visitando un stand
      siempre regresando
      esperar el día

The person in the animation doesn't look ANYTHING like Leonard Cohen, including not looking like a 1974 Leonard Cohen.
