    Welcome back. I like the Scimitar style blades.
    I like the way you focus in for a few seconds with a still picture of what you are talking about. I don’t think I have seen anyone do that and I really appreciate it.

    Very nicely made knife, not my favorite style but this one have something going for it !
    I just dont think the handle color is doing it any favor, but budget knife a tend to go with safe color choices. I'd love to see it in dark blue.

      At least Bestech does offer their knives in several colours all of the time and even with several blade treatment options too. This last thing is a big deal for a lot of guys.

    Welcome BACK, Jake !!!
    Sorry to hear about mom.
    Cheer UP !!! (cheers)
    BTW; The Bestech SCIMITAR has a Rockwell Hardness (HRC) of 60. (This was tested by LTK - Lee at Luv them Knives)

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  5 років тому

      I am so happy to be back in my reviewers' chair.
      Knife hardening is as much art as science and that is why each knife even in single batch can have a variance of hardness. In one batch of knives, it is very common to have a small variety of hardnesses reported. That is why knife manufacturers almost always say that they have a range, like 59-61 or something like that. Just because the Scimitar that Lee had tested came out as 60 it doesn't mean that every Simitar will be at 60, but it does mean that they will be VERY close to 60.

  • @sae1095hc
    @sae1095hc 5 років тому

    I picked up a TwoSun TS89-G10 for 30 bucks, it seems like a pretty good knife. LuvThemKnives says that TS uses real D2 at 61 hardness so it should hold an edge. It had a sharp corner at the butt end of the handle (styling I think), which dug into my hand in the saber grip, rounded it off and now the only thing wrong with it is the pocket clip was designed super thin pocket material, but it's a 30 dollar G10 scaled liner lock, so I figure I'll sand down the scale under the clip to make room for jeans and cargo pants.

    I love the Bestech brand. I really like the general looks of the Scimitar, but I am not a fan of enclosed liners. I like the metal detail visible liners add to the looks of a handle.
    I will definitely buy this one eventually.

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  5 років тому

      And I like the recessed liners - much of the time. I don't have a strong preference either way. On some knives, I definitely want to see the liners but on others, hidden liners are cool to me. I hope Bestech continues to create new knives in both styles. Mostly I wish they will start doing more non flipper knives.

    I've had the knife on me for three weeks straight and I enjoy it. One thing that annoys me, though is that the inner edges of the G-10 handles are really sharp. Any prolonged use leads to hotspots both on the top of the handle and in the bottom opening. It's a shame because the handle is otherwise very well made but those sharp edges inside that open design really need some polishing. No other complaint, it's my EDC and I still love the design and blade shape.

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  3 роки тому +1

      One of the best things about G10 is that it is easy to modify, some fine sandpaper and you can take off annoying edges without too much difficulty. Of course, you should not need to do that, but if you need to do it, it's not hard. just make sure not to breath the dust - G10 has glass fibers, and when they are tiny, those are nasty for your lungs.

    That would be awesome(If they got their grind angle game together) in a sub 3 inch version. Companies make deep carry pocket clips but don't use flathead screws. Oh and, your background color is...

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  5 років тому

      As long as they rely on humans hand sharpening then all knife manufacturers will continue to have this issue. The only fix is to have machines do it or have them used guided sharpeners where the knife is clamped like my TSPROF or HAPSTONE or dozens of others that work that way - but that method would all LOADS of time. I am sure they average around 2 or 3 minutes per blade when they do it by hand and a guided sharpener would take them 15minutes IF they are FAST.
      Background colour is pale tan... I dunno, I am a man afterall.

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  5 років тому

      Nothing wrong with having a preference for smaller. Before I started this channel I would usually carry a knife with a blade that is between 2.5 and 3" most of the time. But since I review all sizes I have to carry all sizes now. It took a while but I got used to carrying large blades, but I still don't carry the large ones everywhere, mostly just when I go for walks, but not to mall or anything like that.

      My email is listed at the bottom of the video description section on each video I produce. CanadianCuttingEdge AT gmail.com (I use AT so that the bots going around the web don't add my address to their databases - just change the AT for @ and take out the spaces.
      Your choice depends on what you want to sharpen. Email me. and give me a good idea of the size and type of knife you sharpen the most and then I will give you more advice.
      There is a sale of the Diamond Lansky systems at DROP and if you are not yet a member of Massdrop - now just DROP, then you can get $10USD off your first purchase when you use this link (the link goes to the Lansky they have on sale): drop.com/buy/lansky-deluxe-diamond-4-stone-system?referer=ZQXF6R
      The diamond Lansky is for guys with high end steel on their knives, but it works with budget blades too, though it is overkill for that.

    Hi Jake. How are you able to get these knives into Canada considering the strict laws imposed on importing "flippers" etc. ? I refer to the laws everyone went nuts ocer about a year ago. Have the laws ben relaxed since then. I would be really interested to know. Thank you.

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  5 років тому +1

      First, the actual LAW isn't why the knives are confiscated. CBSA is taking away knives that ARE legal to own in Canada. That is what makes this so hard to take. I have done several videos on what we need to do to fight this - you can search for CBSA under my channel and you will find them. I guess I will make a new one soon.
      Ways I get knives into Canada. - LEGALLY:
      I buy from vendors who ship under their personal names and not business names. Packages that are clearly from knife stores are checked much more often. That is why I like White Mountain Knives (this improves the odds that CBSA will not check the package, but does NOT eliminate chance.
      Second, I have most of my purchases sent to a friend or family in USA and they mail them up to me (legally labeled).
      Those two methods work fairly well, but some knives still get taken by CBSA - part of the cost of buying knives at a lower price.
      Option 3 - buy from Canadian vendors when the price is close to the same as USA or overseas prices.
      Clearly, I still lose knives to CBSA - unavoidable. BUT I want you to join the fight and donate to the legal case that has the only chance of forcing CBSA to follow the laws of Canada and allow most of the knives they take away to enter Canada instead: www.gofundme.com/canadian-knife-rights-law-suit (Donate as generously as you can. We Canadians must stop rolling over and allowing government agencies to take advantage of us - fight back - legally.

      @@CanadianCuttingEdge thanks for the update, Jake. I really was hoping they would have fixed this horrific oversight by now. It's heart breaking for knife enthusiasts all over the globe these days. Regersive liberalism is taking it's toll everywhere and the extent of these silly laws are ridiculous. I keep holding thumbs for my Canadian friends that this gets sorted soon. Best of luck and thank you for being in the fight!

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  5 років тому

      @@seanjestersloan It is no oversight, but it is quite bad indeed. It is CBSA leadership trying to tell us how we can live. It is liberalism telling us we are bad if we like knives.
      If you have Canadian friends and if you (any reader of this who lives in USA) don't mind doing a little work to help them then contact them and offer to help your friends get knives.

      @@CanadianCuttingEdge I am in South Africa and I will offer my help to anyone who needs it. Although here it is a relative free-for-all here, we do not get knives as fast as the rest of the world and with the shipping, customs and retail markups they become quite pricey. However, we have a gentleman here that is managing to get stock in and is selling at around the prices Lamnia.com sell for. I do not know how he manages to do so, but it is fantastic. I will also donate to the Canadian gofundme at the end of the month. I have personal reasons for investing in that cause as well as having a lot of love for Canada and the awesome people there. I will also pass that link around for others to donate, at this point, I think that's the best we can do down this end of the world.

      @CanadianCuttingEdge  5 років тому +1

      Oh boy, I just assumed you were in North America. Thanks so much for being willing to help in our legal fight.
      Prices for knives. Americans have no idea how good they have it. The rest of the world is paying at least 50% or more per knife (not each individual knife but overall). We in Canada have the second-best prices but most other countries have terrible knife prices - once all the costs are counted.
      I doubt there is anything you can do directly for Canadians to help them out, unless there are some South African made knives - oh that is an idea. Are there South African brands of knives that are in the budget price range? If yes, maybe you can help me get some to review? Email me CanadianCuttingEdge AT gmail.com.
      Have GREAT day Sean
