There are few post 89 Joes that really struck me as ones I should add to my Joe tribute collection, and this big bad lad is one. V1 is fantastic and will look wonderful next to my early range.

Odds are Larry Hama wrote the Big Ben filecard. He always took time to Research the information that goes into the G. I. Joe and Cobra filecards.
Other Joes who went through SAS training include Scarlett and Crank Case. 22 SAS maintains an exchange program with US Special Forces (the Green Berets). One of the US exchange officers was then Capt. Charles A. “Chargin’ Charlie” Beckwith who would later use 22 SAS as his model when he proposed the creation of the US Army’s 1st Special Forces Operations Detachment- Delta/ Delta Force.
Big Ben wasn’t the only fictional character who served in the Falklands War; Author John Gardner revealed that James Bond 007 also took part in Operation: Corporate.
Excellent video! Big Ben has always been one of my favorites, since my grandmother was born in England before moving to the states and had family that served in the British military. She gave me my first Big Ben figure (the arctic version), because of his background as British SAS.
Big Ben one was the truly unique figures and characters in my collection. Thank you Tony for your service and amazing information regarding the British SAS. I learned quite a bit during this touching tribute to the Queen.

It's always sad when somebody passes but what really makes me tear up is that the self confessed best friend of jimmy savile, king Charles will be inheriting £350 million pounds without paying the 40% inheritance tax everyone else has to pay while most people in the UK can't afford to pay their energy bills or are relying on food banks to feed their families, great video though Tony 👍

Tony, another great video. My condolences on the loss of Her Majesty. I have had a passing interest in Britain's Royal family going back to just after my high school days. When Lady Diana passed, I remember seeing her funeral. I wasn't much older than William was, when I lost my own mother a couple years before, so the whole thing struck a nerve, except I wasn't shoved into the public eye for everybody to see. But I was lucky enough to spend those high school years with my Grandmother living with us. I have a feeling that your Lady Queen Elizabeth had much the same class, sensibility, and spunk of my Grandmom Sue. Thank you again for this review. God save the Queen, and God save all her defenders!
I would bet a year's salary that Bobby Vala would definitely do Big Ben justice than Hasbro. Booby's track record speaks for itself, unlike the multi billion dollar company. Holy crap, that arctic Big Ben is AMAZING! One detail that really sells it is the off-white/beige strap from the grenade pouch- It ties it in with the beige web gear and the dusty-white clothing. I always love alternate environment versions of characters, so they can tag along with the dedicated environment troops to fill out the roster without looking out of place (Brazillian Mission [Desert] Leatherneck; Desert Clutch from the Vamp MKII, etc.) I wish there were more of them.

This is an outstanding video about Big Ben. I’ve never heard about this character until this and seeing the details of this figure really make me appreciate this figure a lot. I hope they do this character justice in the future. Especially now with recent events, they have to do this character with proper respect

I'm not British, and I had no real affinity for the Queen; but now that she's gone, I feel somewhat sad that she's gone. She represented her country with a dignity that was unparalleled. She will be missed.

Great review. I'm glad you also prefer the O-ring figures. I just can't get into any of the later styles. That part of Wales looks like a beautiful place to visit; maybe not do a 24 hour hike, however.

I won't put in my 2 cents as an American when it comes to Queens and Kings and others claiming a higher class or birthright to rule over others, but damn Big Ben has always been one of my favorite Joes. Brilliant figure design and though he comes across scrawny compared to some of the hulks Hasbro was releasing at that time, I always played him as the tough as nails littler guy who could give as good as he got. His accessories were also some of the best of that time and that bag of grenades was one of the best accessories of all Joes ever produced. I am still in the process of collecting some of the European and Soviet based figures but Big Ben was the first.

The Monarchy does what no republic can do, install an apolitical head of state. in the USA theres no apolitical figure above the president, to you have the division of politics but nothing to unite both sides.

This guy is one of my favorite Joes. Another great one from this era was Rampart, from the previous year. Have you read Rogue Heroes by Ben Macintyre? It's a great book.
Is the green big Ben, a member of the royal green jackets? Is the orange big ben a member of an Northern Ireland regiment? I own the 2002 and 2003 big Ben's. Still looking for the '90s and 2000's Big Bens.
In the GI Joe lore, Big Ben is an SAS soldier. Hasbro never changed his backstory to make excuses for some of the weirder repaints that they offered. I’m also certain that Northern Irish soldiers don’t march around in tangerine coloured jackets.

Spot on. Back then Hasbro had respect for the military service men and women upon which these toys were based, and did their research. Today all they have is good 3D sculptors. I'm looking forward to a Classified Big Ben, but he'd better not come with a Nerf gun!

Always enjoy your videos. Must be a pretty massive thrill to have a figure made in your likeness, that is really cool. Also, really interested to know if it's common for former elite soldiers to become action figure collectors/enthusiasts later in life.
I got given the original Big Ben when he came out in '91 and he remains, in my opinion, one of the absolute best figures of the 82-94 line. Will be interesting to see how the Classified version turns out....

This is a great video clip. I too had moved on from action figures when Big Ben was released and never got to read his file card. If i remember correctly, it was Larry Hama who wrote most of these cards, after doing good research on each characters specialty. Since 1991, when Bravo Two Zero was released, i have read some books written by retired SAS soldiers, i would like to hear your opinion on any such books you may have read. Also, your custom SAS Falklands veteran action figure, it looks a lot like John McAleese. Was that intentional?

Don’t hold your breath that Hasbro will do it justice. He definitely won’t come with as many accessories, unless he is going to be a “deluxe” figure. I quit getting Joes in 1990 so I had never heard of this guy until you started talking about him on your channel.

It's almost like a double-edged sword to fall on. If Hasbro follows the course correction they have been about trying to stay more true to the character designs from the past, then you'll get what you looking for and at the same time you won't. And then on the other Edge you have where they take creative Liberty to make a character based more of SAS that people may appreciate but you don't get the character you grew up with. Perhaps they'll come to a compromise where maybe they'll add some British military Squadron badges and weaponry. Or maybe they'll just make the character look the way it did back in the 90s and have valiverse make a version more true to an sas Soldier. We shall see

I actually have never heard of Big Ben and you are right, he's like the Tomahawk which was one of the few figures and vehicles that still bore real world connections in the late era of GI-Joe that had gone sci-fi. I have a weird question, though, what do you call that cool winter hat he's wearing?
Amazing video my man I'm American but I'm very proud of my English blood I also don't have much hope for Hasbro's big Ben figure but you never but I don't have hope for just about anything from Hasbro by now also I'm currently working on my own action figure line it's not gonna start until a few years from now but pretty I'm going for hyper realistic as well as maybe just a weird but cool things but I'm definitely making S.A.S figure both british and Australian but anyways great video love your channel thank you for your service and God save the queen and the new king as well.

after spending nearly week in british hospital and be honest i could died if not treated there by the best medical staff in world and i may be byist as in uk. anyway back to toys i dont give f f if hasbto get it wrong now it not my toy time i rember figure orginally and that good enough for me .and waste of people breath going on about how wrong hasbro are etc .collect for your childhood .you will save alot money and time you could with your family as i found out life to short enjoy it

A beautiful tribute to her majesty. A great video about Big Ben and the SAS.
From one Briton to another, you've done your country proud. Anyone who knows anything about the British military and specifically the SAS, knows just how tough you have to be to get selected for that very exclusive regiment. SAS units are the toughest of the tough, serving behind enemy lines and without support - often without much more equipment than they can carry, or sling into a lightweight Land Rover, Pink Panther, or more recently, onto a Quad bike. No, they're not the rough equivalent of the US Special Forces - they're much, much harder than that.
