The guy in the background makes my life.
The guy in the background is the star of the show, Tim Realbuto. I'm sorry to say that he was not fan Girling, this is actually a show about his life growing up in the theater and into the woods was the first Broadway show he ever saw, so this is all part of the act. Look at the titles at the end of the video and you'll see Tim's name in giant font. But he and Derek are friends and Tim does love his voice ( and he also loves all of your comments !)

I interpret the song as a child growing up and going through all of the good, bad, exciting and terrifying experiences of life as he transitions into adulthood, learning from those experiences, and taking them back with him to make the most of the rest of his life. Such a beautiful song. One of Sondheim's best pieces.
Derek Klena is such a wonderful musical theatre performer. I admire how he can sing with so much expression and emotion, and yet spot on with pitch and diction and sound amazing! He and some of the other young up-and-coming singer-actors give me hope for American musical theatre.
I'm hopefully going to be singing this song for my Musical Theatre class's gender-bend day. Guaranteed not to sound anywhere near as good as Derek Klena, but I will be listening to this over and over for inspiration.
I need a Musical Theater group that'll do a gender-bend day! (lol) Derek Klena is definitely amazing; so talented and a brilliant singer and what seems like a great personality as well.
