- Join me as I head out into the Scottish wilderness for an overnight hot tent camp. This time, I set up camp using the ultra light Black Orca Smokey Hut hot tent by One Tigris, which was recently sent to me to try out.
After canoeing across a loch, I set up camp on a secluded beach, collect some fire wood, cook up so food on the stove and chill out with a few beers.
If any of you guys are interested in the Smokey Hut tent, here are the details to the One Tigris website, and also a discount code if you are thinking of buying one;

after I watched this video, I made a diy tipi tent in Korea. thank you for inspiring me
Quality content mate. Been watching your videos for a while now and just want to say I appreciate the effort you put into them.
Hi Andy, thanks a lot for that mate, means a lot, definitely makes filming worth while. Cheers for watching buddy, atb, Matt 👍🏻
@@ADVENTUREISMADE
Your video are very beautiful, and make it more bearable having to stay at home!
100% loch dee.
What a place.
Brilliant video
Poppy will love that tent , she,l be nice and cosy in there , another great video bud ,,
..very inspiring!
I was fortunate enough to pick up a new Smokey Hut at a reduced price at eBay.
It carried Orca brand.
I have a small canoe, so all I need now is an isolated beach.
I was thinking only Spring and Fall camping, and maybe extend that to Winter.
If I did, I have a pulk to bring in a stove.
Now, I see I could canoe to a likely campsite.
..at least, before ice!
..again, inspiring and a very beautiful place.
I made screenshots of my favorite scenes that morning.
I hope you are able to do more with that tent, and canoe.
I purchased the Smokey Hut tent a couple of weeks before OneTigris started their ambassador/influencer campaign around this product in August. Since then, I have watched probably every video that came out featuring this tent. I am also a big fan of the product. But there are a couple of obvious things that one should be aware of which not a single UA-camr seems to care to mention:
1. The Smokey Hut comes with only 5 storm lines while 7 are required for a proper storm pitch. This means you will need to make/acquire additional lines if you wanted a full pitch. This is not a showstopper but noteworthy IMHO. Especially in any sort of review.
2. The tent comes with only 10 stakes while 16 would be required for a full pitch. This is just enough to pitch the tent all around plus two of the storm lines. This means you will need to make/acquire additional stakes if you wanted a full pitch. Again, no biggy on the one hand but surely worth mentioning.
3. The stakes provided with the tent are of inferior quality. They bend easily and will not last for a foreseaable time of moderate use. Now, while this is the case with many China tent stakes, swapping them out for propper ones could be recommended in a review.
4. The two air vents in the top of the tent are prone to being pulled flat (that is: closed) when the tent is pitched tightly. They can also be pushed close in high winds. Thus, I modified each of the vents with a pull-out and a guy line attached to it. Some of the Chinese tipi style tents have these pull-outs pre-installed. Obviously for good reasons. The Smokey Hut does not. Some squeeze a piece of wood in between the vent opening and the rain cover to keep it open.
I hope this information is regarded as value added.

..and I had to purchase the flameproof patch for the stovepipe, separately.
It seemed forever, so I recommend ordering before the season you intend to use it.
It is a very beautiful tent.
Now, I am looking for a half tent screen house interior that will fit in opposite the wood stove.
As always Matt yur videos are spot on & i love watching them, keep them coming mate. 👍👍👍Mick..
Love the video, I am a great fan of the Galloway forrest Park, you are camping the way it should be done. All the best

Another great video Matt, keep them coming mate.
Thanks buddy, will do, appreciate it, atb, Matt 👍🏻
Great video, really enjoyed going along with you for the trip. The hot tent looked a great idea as well though no good for us in the Hebrides - we've no trees :-)
Thank you 😀 haha, works well as a normal tent too 😂 thanks for watching, really appreciate it, atb, Matt 👍🏻
Nice film dude, thanks for letting us see your adventures
Thanks mate, cheers for watchin, atb, Matt 👍🏻
Well done! Nice camera work! Great scenery.
Superb 👍
It's a beautiful location that's quite accessible for us over the border. I've canoe camped on there a good few times and always seen some amazing wildlife . I like the good old Laavu, especially when I've got a canoe to carry it but I'll be interested in a year's time to see how these tents shape up to extended use 🙂. Give us a shout if you ever fancy a canoe river trip or a canoe meet up. There's plenty to go at and you can't beat a canoe adventure 🙂. You really did have great conditions 👍
Yeah its an awsome place. Only 4 hour drive for me so no bad at all. I think they will hold up well tbh, the quality is really good, obviously need to make sure the spark arrestor is doing its job and not as warm as the Lavvu but excellent for the weight of them. I will do buddy, thanks for the offer 😀 got a little one due early Feb, so will be house bound for a few months after Christmas but hopefully be able meet up at some point in the year for sure 👍🏻 cheers for watching mate, atb, Matt
@@ADVENTUREISMADE ahh good stuff fella, all the best with the little one and have a great Christmas and New Year. My little ones ain't so little anymore and comfortably kayaking grade 5 all over the world. Another adventure for you to begin 🙂👍. Will be quality
thanks Ricky, you too mate 😀 sounds awsome buddy, can see where they get it from. I know, looking forward to it. Hopefully get him into the outdoors at a young age too. Cheers again Ricky 👍🏻
Truly awesome mate, really unique video as i don't recall seeing a hot tent on the sand as of yet on youtube. Really enjoyed supping a cold one watching this one buddy.
Thanks Mike mate, appreciate it. Was an awsome camp, itching to get back up there haha. atb, Matt 👍🏻
Another great video, have a great Christmas. Cheers
Thanks mate. Yeah you too, all the best, Matt 👍🏻
What an amazing place to camp Matt. The water was like glass in the morning. Very jealous 👍. Keep getting out there mate.

Nice little adventure Matt. Think well take a look at the tent, looks ideal for our packrafting and bikepacking adventures. :-) All the best L&D
Thanks mate, yeah it would be ideal for those. Hopefully get a packraft of my own one day, they look awsome. Cheers for watching, really appreciate it, atb, Matt 👍🏻
awesome as always mate, keep it up :)
Thanks Tom, appreciate it buddy, atb, Matt 👍🏻
A stunning spot. A hottent is on the list, but I prefer a dome. I find it more convenient than a lavvu type. Nice video.
Great watch mate 👍🏻
Thanks mate 👍🏻
Looks a good bit of kit, loved the stove aswell, spot on video Matt, should of took a Xmas tree home lol looks a spot on place, atb mate and a merry Xmas 🎅🏻🎅🏻

Incredible video. Amazing scenery. Subscribed. ✌️
Thank you buddy, really appreciate it 😀 atb, Matt 👍🏻
Nice one mate
cheers mate 👍🏻
ive got one love it still got try my winnerwell nomad stove in it
Probably one of your best videos yet, especially the morning after shots - looked idyllic . Are you going to do a review on your Hou Canoe and the stove? Keep the content coming as it will inspire others.
Thanks Ed, yeah was such a calm morning. Probably wont do one on the stove. But might do one on the canoe next yeat maybe. Will do buddy, thanks for watching, Atb, Matt 👍🏻
I finally purchased a firebox stove as a result of your earlier videos and am yet to do an unboxing and use video. It doesn’t get justifiably cold enough in the north of New Zealand to use a tent stove like yours, but it still looks awesome.
Nice trip! I'd love to own a tent like that sometime, but with the limited camping I do (I'm more of a hiker) I don't think I can justify buying one just yet.
It seems easy enough to set up though, and as far as lightweight tents go, I think it's a great design!
I watched the whole video, and subscribed. :)
Love your videos 👍 awesome content. Chills me out watching. I'd love to learn and go out and wild camp. Have you seen haze outdoors?
OBRIGADA POR COMPARTIHAR MAIS UM EXCELENTE VÍDEO. FELIZ 2020 .UM GRANDE ABRAÇO .🇧🇷
Lugar muito bonito.
If that’s not living I don’t know what is 👍
haha, yeah youre right there 😀 thanks for watching it, really appreciate it, Matt 👍🏻
What an amazing location! Not sure if I could be bothered with all the faffing of a hot tent tbh, but it is pretty cool!
Yeah it was awsome. Hot tent isnt that much of a faff, especially habing the canoe close by to lug the gear 👍
awesome x
Thanm you 😁
*Thank
Cracking video mate! What and awesome location! Stunning! Love that tent too, makes me wanna spend mor money tho 🤦🏻♂️😂 all the best mate, catch up soon 👍🏼
Thanks Ash mate. Yeah its a beauty place. Well worth the drive haha. The tent is awsome, so light weight too. Cheers for watching buddy, yeah all the best, catch up soon mate 👍🏻
ADVENTURE IS MADE you’re welcome mate, have a good weekend 👌🏼

Cracking video matt and a great location to try out the hot tent did the gopro still work being frozen it's the same one I have atvb jimmy 😎😎
Thanks Jimmy mate. Yeah took it in the tent to thaw out and worked fine luckily haha. Cheers for watching, atb, Matt 👍🏻
Just bought one of these Matt on your recommendation. Which Loch is that?
Another very interesting and enjoyable trip Matt, nice tent and stove,I was wondering if the stove kept the inside of the tent nice and warm, until it went out of course, the food looked great,we’re you allowed to fish there or didn’t you fancy it,anyhow thanks for a great vlog.
Thanks Andreas, yeah the stove works really well in there. Was really warm when it was lit. Yeah you can fish there, but you need a permit, which I didnt get time to get. But also I knew it would be getting dark early and wouldnt really of had time by the time I sorted camp etc. Deffs be back in the summer for fishing though lol. Thanks for watching. Atb, Matt 👍🏻
Hi matt, great vid once again, looks so tranquil, I'm in Scotland for a week in early September, doing Ben Nevis first day but wouldn't mind finishing my last day or 2 around there, what was the area called pal if you can divulge that it would be much appreciated 👍
Spot on the Matt, as I’ve said my two favourite types of camp rolled in to one, hot tenting and canoe trip.
What a stunning location you have found here. Did you plan the trip to there or did you just spot it while on the lake?
Looked like you where totally alone out there Matt, looked like you were in total solitude.
How did you find the stove mate, looked like it did just the job for you.
Top video and here’s to seeing you in many more adventures with both the hot tent and canoe. Cheers mate, Ant 👍
Thanks Ant. Yeah I had it planned mate. Used Goole maps to pick it out. I was, only seen 3 people and that was when I was driving in and out of the park. Stove was quality, wasnt too bad in the wind either which was one of my concerns as I didnt have any guy lines for it. Appreciate it Ant, atb, Matt 👍🏻
Hi Matt great video a gain, beautiful scenery too. The tent looks super easy to erect and take down. Great review mate, but no price?
The loch looked like a mirror on the am, I bet it was a pleasure paddling back, hope poppies doing fine!
Hi Derek, thanks mate. Yeah its stunning up there. Haha, I forgot to mention the price, its around 130 pound I believe. Really cheap for the quality of it. Yeah was really peaceful heading back, some parts of the loch had iced over haha. she is buddy, will be back on my next video. Thanks for watching, atb, Matt 👍🏻
Lovely spot you found there. Hot tent looked cool. Would it be big enough for 2, and what sort of temperature did it end up hitting inside vs outside in the night?
Hi Tom, yeah definitely big enough for two people. I forgot to take a thermometer so not sure what the temps got too, but it was well below freezing outside, i think it got down to about -7 but inside the tent was really warm, cheers, Matt 👍🏻
Awesome video as always 🏕 what backpack is that your using?
Thanks Nicky mate. Its the Sealline Pro 70ltr. Thanks for watching buddy, appreciate it as always, atb, Matt 👍🏻
Hi Matt, great film, which loch were you on and where did you park, I have been looking at Galloway for a year or two for a great place to have adventures, thanks in advance
Paul
❤❤
Hey Matt, looks a Great spot. Have you the Link fort the Stove?
Thanks Jonny. Yes mate, just added it to my gear list, but here it is amzn.to/2qsx6jj cheers mate, atb, Matt
I have that tent.
I have a question about the wood stove so close to the tent wall fabric.
Did you have a problem?
Just purchased this tent. What's the best type of stove for it? Thanks G.
Great film 👍👍...What frying pan is that? .... Where can i get one from?
Thanks
Thanks buddy, its a snow peak titanium one. I got mine off Amazon. There should be a link too it in my video description 👍🏻
What is that for a beautiful beach please ?!
Can i call it beach? :-) Thanks!
Which loch is that mate? Is that beach accessible by car?
What did you make your stove jack out of?
Its in the video buddy 👍🏻
What stove is it?
Its from a company called outbacker stoves
I see a cheeky easy peeler from fourpure i think 😉 if you DM me your address I’ll get some merch and beers sent over when I’m back in london, fourpure is one of the breweries I look after. Take it easy.
haha yeah! That would be awesome, thank you so much for the offer I really appreciate that mate. Will drop you a DM 😁. Thanks again buddy, atb, Matt 👍🏻
Hi Nick, I cant figure out how to send you a DM on here do you have Instagram? Or can you drop a message to adventureismade@gmail.com cheers, Matt
Instagram is @summitascent 👍🏻
Did not know that you are allowed to cut down trees (even they are dead) in a Scottish National Park?! It makes quite an impact. Let’s say there are twenty or more campers in just one
season.... ”Leave no Trace” should be applied, especially as more people seem to get outdoors. Just saying.
Add a few more fucks???? Awesome video buddy I really enjoyed it I’m gonna subscribe right now 👍🏻😁
few more fucks? lol. Thanks mate, really appreciate it buddy, atb, Matt 👍🏻
that tent needs a floor
