Natchan thank you for filming this. I love seeing mom get so excited with the garden. She looks so happy! That papaya was so small but what a beautiful color!
Your mom really is in her element when in her garden! Both dishes look delicious. Thank you for sharing with us. Remember to have her show you how much to water and write down how often, that way when she leaves for Japan, you will be more comfortable keeping up the garden.
Thank you much Niki-san. Also, you’re so right about recipes and dishes we need to learn how to prepare ourselves in order for us to be able to enjoy and pass on long after our love ones pass on. I can remember so many times my mother suggested I learn to make her bbq sauce, because one day I’m going to wish I had and she will be gone. Well, she departed this world and I fell in love with barbecuing, and want to kick myself each time I purchase bbq sauce. Take care and stay safe.
niki love your chill & relaxing videos! this one i couldnt help but tear. " when they're gone, they're gone" really hit deep : ( It makes me realize that I should appreciate and spend more time with my mom.
How convenient they have all different sauces dehydrated in powdered form...do you know where they sell dehydrated Yaki soba mix... I can’t seem to find it. Your mom is so creative and a good gardener. It keeps her mind alert.
Thanks for sharing your Mom with us again. I loved watching her cook on TabiEats and now I get to see her with you. Gotta love that woman. I do so miss my Mama. 🤗😚
Thank you Niki and shinichi's mom for the video. Love the garden. Spinach and broccoli are delicious. Glad to see mom doing good, sending prayers, hugs, and much love. To your mom the food looks so delicious, much love.
Love when Mom teaches us to make dishes. Why does Mom pull and cook the entire spinach plant? Then cut the roots off. Looking forward to making these dishes. But will need to find the sesame packets. Sorry Mom was unable to visit Schinichi, her family & friends this year.
Great to see your mother looking so well. All credit to you Niki for your loving care of her! By the way, you can take leaves off the spinach plant without pulling up the whole plant. You can do that for a few weeks and new ones will grow. However, after a while the plant will start to "bolt" which means it suddenly puts out longer shoots where the leaves are tough, and that's when you might as well pull up the whole plant! (Maybe that's what was happening with your Mom's plant?)
Hi Niki! This is a wonderful video. It's so great that your mother was able to harvest her horenso. It's so delicious when it is grown at home. I grew it at home one winter, and I was surprised how much better it was than store-bought! I think you were asking your mother what else could be served with the goma-ae sauce. I've had green beans with it, and they were very delicious. Horenso no goma-ae is one of my favorite dishes, and I used to make it at home, grinding the sesame seeds and the whole nine yards! I haven't seen the little seasoning packets. That is so handy. Please thank your mother for sharing her recipes and tips with us. Niki, please take care of your voice, and I hope you will feel better. Sending lots of good wishes to you both from California!
Aloha ! I told her she has to try to grind it herself. She used to in her day. It probably does taste better from scratch... thank you and have a great week! love love from Hawaii !!!
Niki Niki I hope you will make the goma-ae together if your mother decides to make it from scratch. It is very delicious, but it's a challenge, especially if you have any soreness or arthritis in your hands. Maybe you can take turns using the suribachi? Sending love back to you from California!
I found the seasoning packet at a Korean grocery store. We have a larger population of Korean people than Japanese people in our area. I add extra sesame seeds.
Your Mom is so cute! She reminds me so much of my grandma. I miss her so much! Love the bond you guys have. The spinach & broccoli looked so good! Love vegetables!
Tell your mom to try cutting spinach 1 inch from soil and leave stem in ground. I harvested my spinach like this and it was good for several harvest as long as it doesn't bolt. Probably I had spinach for 3 months :D. Ohhhh try that on blanched watercress I bet it is yummy with a little of toasted sesame oil too!
Yummmmmmm!!! One of my favorite ways to eat spinach! Can't wait to try the broccoli!! Thanks for sharing! Your Mom is so cute! It makes my heart happy to see you guys together! Your brother ( on his channel) said your Mom makes the best chicken rice, and I would like to try her recipe... can you guys make that? Love to you and your Mommy!!
Mahalo mama for sharing your recipe with us sometimes it's a little bit special when you grow your own vegetables and fruits lv to u Niki Niki and Kuma 😋
I had a nice garden of were not neighbor let rabbit had salad buffet of it. March 1 is the turlip day in San Franciso. At Union Sq. Turlip flow in from Holland free for all to take.
Ohayo sister! Natchan, daijobu? Amari genki nakata.....❤️ Not your usual bubbly self. I hope you feel better soon. Oh my goodness! Your okasama is so kawaii! I love how she talks to her vegetables while harvesting, and I love how she’s growing her own nira! Whenever I buy it at the Japanese market for my gyoza, it’s so expensive. I want to grow horenso, cilantro, and nira now. Perhaps if I talk to my veggies, they’ll grow heartily too. I’m usually yelling at the lizards and ants for invading my garden space. ☺️ Yes! Please, do watch your mama cook and write everything down. That’s THE biggest mistake I made. I took for granted that my okasama would be here to cook for us forever, so I never learned-Japanese dishes. Cut to after she passed away, and my son wanted to carry on the “Osechi Ryori” tradition. 😳 Whaaat? I had no clue where to start. Thank goodness for TabiEats and your mama on video teaching! I cannot tell you how appreciative I am for them! ❤️ Oh! I saw your Instant Pot! Do you like it sister? I’m making chicken and homemade dumplings in mine for my hubbies’ dinner tonight. I’m also going to make homemade pastrami in it, this week. I follow 5 Instant Pot people on UA-cam for recipes and ideas. Let me know if you’d like me to send you the links on IG. One of my favorites is Nami from Just One Cookbook-and her (Nihon shoku) Instant Pot video’s. I’ve made her 15 minute Japanese Chicken Curry many times. Hontoni oishi sister, soooo easy in the Instant Pot! As always, sorry for the long post, and thank you for sharing your mama and her beautiful garden with us! ❤️
Haha sister! Yes mom does talk to her veggie. I guess there must be some truth to that. I do wish that I started earlier to ask my mom about recipes. She's more into "INSTANT" foods and take outs. She thinks everything is a hassle. Instant Pot.. yes.. i was so scared for the longest time. I just tried it once last week and made kalua pork. Homemade pastrami.. wow... love pastrami. I can't 5 instant pot people. please send me the link.. that sounds good. i am looking for asian cooking.... how exciting. thank you so much... really.. i am just feeling so stuffy and congested from a bad cold again..
