Guru Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty - Raga Nand and Pilu Thumri

Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, senior Guru of ITC Sangeet Research Academy performs Raga Nand and a thumri on Raga Pilu during a special 'Wednesday Recital' held at the Academy on 31st of May 2017.
Accompanying him on tabla was Sandip Ghosh, on harmonium, Brajeswar Mukherjee and on the tanpuras were Deborshee Bhattacharjee and Meher Paralikar.

Thank you for the upload. For the last 40 years, ITC SRA has been tirelessly serving the cause of Hindustani classical music. Two of the leading performing male vocalists today may be called "products" of the Academy, while the third had a long association with it. Apart from grooming of talented youngsters by distinguished "gurus", the Academy has during its long journey organised numerous concerts, not only inside its campus but also in several cities in the country including Kolkata. I understand that these concerts have been recorded by the SRA. However, neither have these recordings been released commercially, nor made available to music lovers through platforms like You Tube. Very little is available on the website. Music lovers would be delighted if the Academy takes positive steps in this regard. Thank you.

Is this a joke? Please listen to Nand by Mansur Ji or Kishori Tai or the Agra folks to get the real thing. This starts off as nand and then goes in random directions. A vakra raag cannot be sung with srgm taans without destroying the raag roop.

If u understand a raag roop by only its inscribed phrases, then I find nothing to say, but being ownself a student of Rampur-Kirana style, I firmly support that Nand didn't get destroyed in this performance. Sargam taans are meant to be choot in these vakra raagas. Listen to Kishori Tai's recording and note the akar and boltaans you will find the presence of these types of chhoots like sa-da ga-_ni, sa ga ma ni pa many a times.
