    "Tambi" (耽美)in japanese language, means pure-aesthetic, or put it another way, an (extreme form of) aesthetic ideology that put beauty as the sole function of art.
    Gansai (顔彩) in japanese means the genre of paint material (much like what western art classify as oil, acrylic, gouache, watercolor etc)
    Kuretaki is the brand name.

    Great comparison. I sometimes prefer the kuretake ones for the sole purpose that I like to work fast and in few layers. However I am curious to try the transparent ones also. Would you say they are similar to winsor and Newton ones? 🐱

    • @weronoyume
      @weronoyume  5 років тому +2

      You mean the cotman student grade or the professional ones? I think that they are better than cotman, but not as good as the professional ones! I think these flow better and are more transparent than cotman, but the lightfast of these might be inferior!

    I was just about to buy the regular gansai tambi set after eyeing it for about a year, and now there's a transparent version? xD lol I have the urge to buy both, but I'm still really curious about the original version of them. I'm used to working with transparent paint, and very rarely work with gouache types of paint(i.e the gansai tambi) even though I do have experience with them. Just something for me to think about before I buy I guess.

    I watched without sound because someone else was watching tv LOL but I can’t tell any difference between the 2 results. Also, no matter what was said in the video, you can’t legitimately say “this is the effect you’ll be most likely to get” considering everyone paints differently. That’s the effect YOU get.

    I just want to ask, when you paint skin, do you wait for each layer to dry before you add more colour/shading and blending? I'm struggling a lot with colouring skin and blending colours, it becomes very blotchy :

    • @weronoyume
      @weronoyume  5 років тому +14

      Yes I wait for the layer to dry I go gradually! And the layer has to be very dry otherwise the color underneath will lift! You also have to be very delicate with the brush! If you do all of this already and it keeps happening it might be the paper you're using the problem!

    • @IIIIOTL
      @IIIIOTL 5 років тому +4

      WeroNoYume Thank you for your advice! I’ll try that next time x3

      WeroNoYume wow! I don't know how but I'm completely the opposite! XD

    • @YourMajesty143
      @YourMajesty143 3 роки тому +1

      You're supposed to either wait for it to dry before layering or you're supposed to blend really fast while everything is still wet, bc if you go in with a 2nd layer that's more wet than the 1st layer that became semi-dry, then it'll cauliflower/bloom/get patchy. If you find that by the time you're ready to to blend, that the your 1st wash is almost dry, then you can fix it by lightly rewetting the entire surface again with and then applying the 2nd layer to blend in. Patchy-ness is a result of uneven dampness on the paper. When you add fresh watercolor to a semi-dry surface, it can pool and create backruns. If you're afraid to rewet your layer bc you suspect it might lift, then wait for the paint to dry. However blending is best done while still wet. Keep in mind that some pigments are "staining" and won't lift even if you tried, but their also problematic if you're trying to get them to blend. Staining colors don't play nice with other paints. They tend to dominate by charging into the paints you're mixing in. Pthalo Blues, Nickle Azo Yellow, Napthamide Maroon, etc. are all examples of dominating colors that charge & flow into other paints very quickly & unpredictably. This is why it's so important to learn the characteristics & quirks of your paints.

      It sometimes helps to add a thin wash of water over the paper, it helps the watercolour apply evenly, especially over a large space
