They are still playing today, and jim kerr now owns a hotel on sicily, jim kerr and the guitarist charlie burchill were the founding members and were from glasgow, with michael macneil on keyboards, mel gaynor on drums, mel is british and i think it was john giblin on bass. they were huge in the eighties. You should check out the album once upon a time, the album that broke them into the major league.

I think the voluminous pants here, and the oversized jackets with the shoulder pads and overly wide in the shoulders, are a throwback to the zoot suit, popularized in the 30s and 40s by black jazz musicians, particularly Cab Calloway.

Still a great band , you guys should have a Listen to Love Song , one of their early tracks off Sons and Fascination and Ghostdancing off Once Upon a Time. Classic Simple Minds.
Gen X anthem I'm older and GEN X ers are usually kinda mean people. Hey if a girl doesn't want you move on and celebrate life it's the 80s. The song does this in a perfect way it paused with all the angst and then puts the pedal down with the crescendos of drums la la la la's and synths

Yes you are on to something with the “Nerdy” comment. In the 1980s.. this was often labeled “Nerd Rock”. Other bands under this label were bands like REM, U2, Midnight Oil, etc. Great reaction to Simple Minds 👏

Great jam. Originally written for Billy Idol but he passed BUT did cover it finally on his greatest hits album and I prefer his version now
The band were'nt interested in it at first and they turned it down, but they eventually gave it a try in the studio and it went on to be their biggest hit single.
