As someone in the Pacific Northwest one of my favourite things to do is, during a drive into the woods to go for a hike on a gloomy day, putting on the Twin Peaks soundtrack as I watch the trees go by. As such I'm always on the look out for more things that scratch that itch, so thanks for putting some more ideas out there.
I’m so glad to see someone talking about Northern Exposure! It is such a cozy, funny show. I grew up watching it with my parents. It definitely formed my appreciation for more slow-paced, almost surreal stories. There’s something beautiful about how they wrap up some episodes without really giving any explanations.
Must have been nice to watch it as a kid. I like how there's not always a lot of background music in most scenes. It's a good show if you want to wind down.
That was my experience too, it was like a lovely family secret as I never heard anyone in the uk talking about it, I love how gentle the pacing is and how it doesn't have a rigid formula, the story line just flows along
I have seen every Twin Peaks video essay on UA-cam but this feels like an imaginative and creative love letter to the iconic show! I’ve loved your channel for months and I have a definite feeling you will be taking it to a place both wonderful and strange! Thank you!
Fantastic video! As a big Twin Peaks fan, I've seen a lot of people try to mimic the Twin Peaks tone but it usually just stops at coffee references and just general quirkiness. You on the other hand, managed to not only do that, but also give your video the same heart and introspection that David Lynch and Mark Frost brought to the actual show which is just downright incredible to see in a UA-cam video! I can tell this video took a lot of effort for you to pull off, so congratulations and keep up the good work!
Wow, that is probably the nicest comment anyone could give me! I'd say I was proud but "achievement is its own reward, pride obscures it". Thank you so much!
It’s like you stepped into my brain and stole all my thoughts! I love watching Twin Peaks with friends who’ve never seen it before, it’s almost like watching it for the first time again. One of the best feelings. Great video once again!

I grew up in the PNW, only about two hours away from Snoqualmie (where parts of Twin Peaks was filmed) and when I lived in Norway for a semester of school I found the landscapes to be so similar to western WA. Sometimes my brain would get mixed up and I’d forget I was in a different country lol
Schysst! Really dig your content. Hugh fan of Twin Peaks. Watched it for the first time when I was in a rehabclinic. It was located in a small but really beatiful town called Åmot (’bout 500 people lived there). Really helped me fight my demons and the withdrawal symptoms from drugs. Keep up the good work! ❤
I was going to suggest Northern Exposure before you mentioned it. So glad you appreciate it. It's such an underrated gem. I think in 2035 the kids will be saying garmonbozia.

At the beginning of the video I was wondering “hm, I wonder if he’d like northern exposure?” Further along I’m delighted that you liked it! I watched it faithfully when it was on.
Northern Exposure has that great magical realism. Love that show. I’m from northern Minnesota so also feel a sort of comfort by cold and flat landscapes. You might like the podcast Tanis or some of the other shows Minnow Beats Whale has done. Same pacing and ancient magic themes but also a modern setting. But is more about the feeling they give me. Sort of sad and funny and lonely and grateful all at the same time. I had a pen pal from Finland when I was a girl and I remember her telling me about how they celebrated their Independence Day (from Russia) and how somber it was and how the elders that remember it would tell stories and sing sad and happy songs. I remember feeling self conscious that I had assumed it was fun and fireworks like we do in the US but I think that’s the point of pen pal programs and I learned a lot from her. I hope Marjo is doing well out there.
Thank you for sharing your art with us, Chris! Twin Peaks is an abousoute gem of a show, so it's nice to see another show with that same vibe that does not directly fall into the horror genre. I am definitely going to give North Exposure a watch. As a native american, it's so wonderful to see that representation in older media. P.S. Hawk was my favorite character in Twin Peaks... aside from Cooper, of course. 🌲☕️🖤
I think you're really gonna like it! Oh yeah, I always thought Hawk was badass. He deserved some more screentime! I think Pete and the log lady were always my favorites. Thanks so much for watching ☺️
Ok I know it's lame to comment twice but I just remembered. When I'm homesick for where I grew up, Upper Michigan, which is basically Canada, I watch The Red Green Show. It's delightfully stupid sketch comedy from Canada on the 80s-90s. Most cozy north woodsy retro comedy you can imagine. It was on public TV late at night when I was growing up, so it was a treat when I caught some of it. Graham Greene was even on it sometimes. I hope you like it!
It's not lame! I'm glad you told me about it. Looks like something I'd probably like! Maybe it's a good thing to watch when I need to lighten up a bit ☺️
@chriswingerTV just stick to the main story. The side content is great but unfortunately there are a lot of ways to soft lock the game. Also, save a lot and use a lot of different slots. Use an online guide to avoid soft locking and to be as efficient ad possible and it really is an incredible experience. - if only it was coded better. Since I've played it once I've sworn off playing it again until I can emulate the 360 version as to have unlimited save states so I don't have to worry about glitches.
Grew up watching Northern Exposure. There really wasn't much like it on television at the time. Did you see Marilyn show up in an episode of The Last of Us? That made me as happy when Cousin Larry from Perfect Strangers played himself in The Leftovers. Nothing hits quite like season 1 of Twin Peaks. It's simultaneously so comforting yet unsettling. No other show makes me feel like Twin Peaks does. Also, really enjoy your skits. You really nailed the creepy/silly vibe.
I feel the same. Nothing ever resonated with me like Twin Peaks did, except for a swedish Christmas tv calendar you've probably never heard of😅 I haven't watched the last of us yet but I heard she's in it! And thank you 😊
Ok so there was a 2000's TV show called Wolf Lake that scratched the Twin Peaks itch for me. Yeah, it's about werewolves, too, but this was before the "Uber Smexy hot werewolf" stuff that came later. There's also a ton of manga/anime, like Samurai Gun and Monster. Highly recommend.
I played Life is Strange soon after watching Twin Peaks and was excited to find the references (I'd say mostly they are pretty obvious and easy to spot). The game was fantastic and close to the end felt really intense.
I actually started playing that game years ago but I guess I started playing something else and sort of forgot about it. I should give the remastered version a go! Should be pretty cheap now.
I used to watch northern exposure as a kid. Instead of playing outside with other children I would be cooped up inside watching reruns of this until I got headaches.
this kept popping up in my side bar and im glad i clicked. very cozy. i still have yet to watch through twin peaks, but i know it allegedly helped inspire silent hill 1, which i love, and the few episodes ive seen i think i can feel it. might have to add northern exposure to the list as well 'u'
"you talk like an old man" - Well, I guess we all get old over time. I don't know. I'm old myself, you see. I talk the way I talk, I used to people say I have an "old spirit", so that must have something to do with it. Maybe not. Who knows? I wish I knew it. Yes, I'm giving Stars just like the old times of UA-cam Broadcast Yourself. Remember those times? Yeah. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Me: *randomly clicks on a thing at work for background noise* random video: "... so we consume other media that remind us of Twin Peaks. Excitebike is not an example of such media." Me: *stops mid-work action, listens to whole rant* What. video: *does what it does* Me: *falls in love with wtf ever this is* Me: ... *subscribes* Me: ... This WAS the longest fish.
Hahaha! My friend told me a while ago that "love will ambush you from behind". I don't know exactly why I'm telling you that but it feels relevant somehow. Anyway, I'm so happy that you found my video! Many thanks.
@@chriswingerTV I am still watching your videos. My boss came in to yell at me, and the second time he stopped mid-sentence and started watching too. There are now 12 of us standing around in my tiny office watching your videos, silently staring in wonder and confusion and awe and torment and joy, and from time to time one of us starts bellowing strange notes in an odd language like a chant as our eyes roll back in our heads for a few minutes.. And all of us have constant erections, even the ladies. Some of us have left to build an altar to sacrifice the unbelievers on once we ambush them from behind. We haven't found any yet, but oh boy, we'll be ready if we do.
I'm definitely not, but "I want to believe" (cit. another fantastic show) that I was at least a bit of the inspiration for this video with my last comment about the fact that you are actually a character from Alan Wake. 😂 Amazing video, as always 👍🏻
Northern Exposure was a big deal when it first aired, but it does seem to have been mostly forgotten now. I think because it went a bit off-the-rails in the last couple seasons.
It's brilliant, how you described exactly the same feeling i have of missing the show and searching for things that give you the same or comparable feeling of the show. I know other people already mentioned Deadly Premonition, but that game is the only thing for me that is giving a very similar feeling of quirkiness, darkness and most important humor! I know the Alan Wake games are better games, but DP was a low budget game from the start and it has so much love for Twin Peaks and so many direct references to the show.
Thank you so much! I've heard some people talk about that game as something that's "so bad it's good" but I think the fact that there's something a bit "off" about it probably just adds to that surreal feeling it's going for. It should be super cheap by now so I don't see why I shouldn't give it a try!
@chriswingerTV Yeah you are totally right! It's a diamond in the rough, full with love and passion from the developer. The best version is the orginal 360 version BC with Xbox One /Series consoles. Also the Switch version is decent. If you have a powerfull rig you can emulate the PS3 version with RPCS3. The PC port has so many issues and also native on PS3 the fps is not great. Anyways the game is fun! Don't you think Zach?
On the other end of the spectrum, if you want a show like Twin Peaks but more for the surrealist auteur angle than the PNW setting, Oliver Stone did a show for ABC called Wild Palms. And it stars The Return favorite Jim Belushi.
If you’re looking for a twin peaks vibe, I highly suggest you watch the Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated series that came out around 15 years ago. I’m pretty certain it takes direct scenes and characters from Twin Peaks and is obviously a huge inspiration.
Hahaha I don't know how I got the accent. I tried to do a Joe Pera impression once because people kept saying. Funny thing was I couldn't do it so good 😅
When I buy a game called Alan Wake, what I really want is to play as a black woman (who was originally supposed to be white). Sweet Baby Inc. just know how to spice things up, bravo
I remember seeing commercials for Northern Exposure. That's all my exposure to it. How about playing Deadly Premonition when you want to watch Twin Peaks but aren't ready for it yet? It's more Twin Peaks than Alan Wake. Maybe even more Twin Peaks than Twin Peaks. Maybe. I don't know, I haven't figured out the Twin Peaks measuring scale to test these sort of things out. It's definitely the longest of fish though, I tell ya what.

Imagine if your pen pal saw this comment! That would be cool.
I should check out that podcast!
I love Red Green!
It's not lame! I'm glad you told me about it. Looks like something I'd probably like! Maybe it's a good thing to watch when I need to lighten up a bit ☺️
"We can't watch Twin Peaks all the time". Challenge accepted.
I think if you put your mind to it you can do anything!
Thank you, I needed this today.
Glad you liked it 😊
Another man turned into excite bike😔
We can't let this go on.
What a great video! May a smile be your umbrella.
Thank you so much 😊
Special vibe to this video, kind of like my favorite show, Twin Peaks.
Thank you 😊
Glad to see you again!
Hope everything is going well for you ❤️
Glad to be back! Everything is good, thank you❤️
The answer is deadly premonition.
Maybe I should give that game a second chance!
I feel like I'm not good enough at video games for this, but I guess I could do it if I tried my hardest 😅
This is fantastic!
Thank you so much! 😊🙏
I'm so glad you discovered Northern Exposure. It was pretty big in the 90s. Inspired a lot of young women to cut their hair too short.
Aha, because of Maggie? She was kind of cute.
Great vibes in this video, huge Joe Pera inspiration
Thank you! Maybe I should go see a voice coach or something 😭
Nothing ever resonated with me like Twin Peaks did, except for a swedish Christmas tv calendar you've probably never heard of😅
I haven't watched the last of us yet but I heard she's in it!
And thank you 😊
Silent Hill 1 captures a lot of that Twin Peaks vibe for me.
I rented that game when I was a kid one time but I never played the whole thing. Maybe I should try to find a copy of it!
@@chriswingerTV Copies go for over $200 these days unfortunately, but it plays great on DuckStation emulator!
@@chriswingerTV Copies are pretty unaffordable right now, but check it out if you can! Really fell in love with the game.
Yeah, pretty pricey! I bet they'll remake that one next though.
@@chriswingerTV I dunno, I feel like the 1999 PS1 charm adds half the atmosphere!
Angelo Badalamenti submitted a score for Excitebike he wrote to Nintendo, but they turned it down.
That would have been something!
Wolf Lake looks pretty cool! Never heard of it before.
strong bateman vibes here
Patrick Bateman? He's waaaay hotter than me.
Great video, there's a game called Deadly Premonition I think you'd get a kick out of. It scratches that Twin Peaks itch.
I was going to mention that! A UA-camr named Supergreatfriend has a very good playthrough of it (and another of the director's cut).
I never played the whole thing but it looks hilarious!
@@chriswingerTV hopefully you will enjoy it if you give it another chance, it felt like quite an immersive experience ^^
I used to watch northern exposure as a kid. Instead of playing outside with other children I would be cooped up inside watching reruns of this until I got headaches.
Haha I guess there can be too much of a good thing!
ÄLSKAR detta!! mvh ett twin peaks fan som ska kolla in de andra filmerna/serierna!!
Tack ska du ha! Hoppas du faller för någon av dem!
thank you for another awesome video uncle chris 🖤
Glad you enjoyed it 🤗
This video is a mood. I watch Twin Peaks yearly though. :P
Thank you!
I used to do that too for a while, but now I'm waiting for the right moment.
this kept popping up in my side bar and im glad i clicked. very cozy. i still have yet to watch through twin peaks, but i know it allegedly helped inspire silent hill 1, which i love, and the few episodes ive seen i think i can feel it. might have to add northern exposure to the list as well 'u'
Thank you😊
I think you'll like it! It might not connect with everyone like it did with me, but you should definitely give it a watch.
I just watched Twin Peaks this year. Living in the American Northwest myself, some of the scenery looks pretty familiar.
I can imagine! It looks beautiful. Sweden is a bit flat and not as grand.
this video is a vibe
It's the longest fish.
Yeah. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Oh yeah, stars! I had forgotten about that! After Facebook it was all about likes.
Maybe some of us are born with old souls and we grow into it.
@@chriswingerTV I guess so, I guess so. Good video, Chris. Keep up, man!
Thank you so much!
"Excite bike" was a great game
It is pretty fun actually!
Alan Wake 2 rekindled my love for Twin Peaks, I started rewatching the show right after finishing the Lake House DLC
I haven't played Lake House yet but I hear it's pretty good!
Me: *randomly clicks on a thing at work for background noise*
random video: "... so we consume other media that remind us of Twin Peaks. Excitebike is not an example of such media."
Me: *stops dead* ...What? *laughs it off, keeps working*
video: "... I think I was stinkier back then because of all the crap I ate."
Me: *stops mid-work action, listens to whole rant* What.
video: *does what it does*
Me: *falls in love with wtf ever this is*
Me: ... *subscribes*
Me: ...
What have I done? People showed up at my house in robes.
i used to play excitebike ... in OReGon !!!
Holy crap! Bet you did some sweet jumps!
I'm definitely not, but "I want to believe" (cit. another fantastic show) that I was at least a bit of the inspiration for this video with my last comment about the fact that you are actually a character from Alan Wake. 😂
Amazing video, as always 👍🏻
Thank you!
Maybe you planted a seed in my head.
Hmm. I feel like doing an x-files video. I don't know why.🤔
Northern Exposure was a big deal when it first aired, but it does seem to have been mostly forgotten now.
I think because it went a bit off-the-rails in the last couple seasons.
Yeah, also I think there's a lot of copyrighted music playing in all the episodes so that didn't help.
Maybe I should finally get a Nintendo switch?😆
As a Cdn from the arctic, Northern Exposure was my jam.
That show rocks!
Joe Pera tells you about Twin Peaks and goes on tangents
One day me and Joe Pera are going to have to have a cage fight. And he is going to win.
@@chriswingerTV lol you'd just end up comparing your favorite type of tree or something
you should’ve cut up your old Christmas tree for your log.
That would be a good way for my tree to leave this world!
On the other end of the spectrum, if you want a show like Twin Peaks but more for the surrealist auteur angle than the PNW setting, Oliver Stone did a show for ABC called Wild Palms. And it stars The Return favorite Jim Belushi.
Oooh, 1993! I'd probably like it! Thanks for the recommendation 😊
@@chriswingerTV I think you’re going to love it. Nice video!
May I recommend Search Party?
It's worth getting past season one to get to the surreal aspects of the show. Season one is quite down to earth.
I have never heard of it before! Thank you 😁
I have a confession to make! I've never watched Twin Peaks....
I've never seen the seventh seal and I'm swedish.
@@chriswingerTV And I have seen The Seventh Seal lol
Need a house tour video!
Oh, you don't want to see my basement!
I’ve never seen Twin Peaks
No time like the present!
You're on for a treat!
If you’re looking for a twin peaks vibe, I highly suggest you watch the Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated series that came out around 15 years ago. I’m pretty certain it takes direct scenes and characters from Twin Peaks and is obviously a huge inspiration.
Oh, I gotta check it out! Scooby-Doo is something I like to watch when I need something comforting. Thanks for the recommendation!
How do I give it an infitine number of LIKES?
Wow, thank you! 🙏😊
I really enjoyed The Wolf of Snow Hollow and i miss Robert Foster.
Yeah, it was a good one! Rest in peace.
Are you doing a Joe Pera impression or is this your own accent?
Hahaha I don't know how I got the accent. I tried to do a Joe Pera impression once because people kept saying. Funny thing was I couldn't do it so good 😅
has anyone told you that you sound like joe pera? maybe it's just that midwestern affectation. loved this vid!
I get that sometimes! I got kind of self conscious for a while but I don't really care 😅
And thank you ❤️
How was your christmas Chris?
It was pretty good! I hope you had a good one as well?
Did Joe Pera have a son? What? Immediate subscribe.
Maybe he is my real dad?
Thank you 😊
did you like True Detective S1 any? :)
Haven't seen that one but I've heard it mentioned when people are talking about Twin Peaks so maybe I should give it a watch!
@@chriswingerTV oh wow! i hope you do!
I think you’d dig Reservations Dogs.
Oh, it's on Disney+ I should check it out!
When I buy a game called Alan Wake, what I really want is to play as a black woman (who was originally supposed to be white). Sweet Baby Inc. just know how to spice things up, bravo
It was a well written character though I think.
Atlanta and Reservation Dogs are kinda like Twin Peaks. Just in case you want some more.
Just started watching the first episode of reservation dogs actually! I'll add Atlanta to the list. Thanks for the recommendation 😊
Any time! Love your channel
Thank you!
Also, there's this YT channel called "cool cammy" that makes me feel like I'm watching Twin Peaks if it were a comedy or like Flight of the Conchords
Haven't heard of it before! Gonna check it out.
Is this guy seriously doubting the surrealist nature of the classic 1984 video game Excitebike?
Perhaps there is more to excitebike than I thought...
videuh games
The first ever💋✨
Yes! Thanks to the fact that I had a ratio problem and had to reupload 😅
Hi guy!
Hello there!
sadly ive become too old and poor to play vidya games
It's ok, you can come to my house. I have a Wii!
I celebrate this video in its entirety.
I've found my people!
I'm so happy that you liked it and that you found me!😁
Watch the TV show Fargo
I should check it out!
blasphemy
norther exposure was on my list lol dont tell anyone
I promise not to tell!
Rubbish.
Exactly!
That game looks light it might be a lot of fun if you're in the right mood!
@@chriswingerTV I hope maybe someday you'll grace it with a good mood.
