It's been a long while since a death of a celebrity has affected me this hard; he completely changed the way I see art and has been a huge inspiration for me ever since I discovered him He was a visionary and creative powerhouse, one of the few artists who not only dared to explore the avant-garde and bring it to mainstream, but come out the other end triumphantly Truly a once in a civilization artist Rest easy, David, you'll be sorely missed
He to me personifies genuine confidence. Not the thing people put on to make people see them a certain way, not the blind optimism of ignorance. Just genuine self expression, acceptance and enthusiasm.
AI can only replicate what a human being who has a lived experience and a soul has put into it. Lynch was a real person who came from small town America and through his human eyes and brain put the strangeness he felt was under the surface of ordinary life into his art.
I can't believe Twin Peaks was on network television. I found it on Netflix and was captivated by the atmosphere and completely offbeat characters. The murder mystery, surreal story telling wrapped up in a soap opera format was just so unique.
Everyone was obsessed with the Great Mystery of Twin Peaks... no, not who killed Laura... the great mystery was... how in the hell a major conservative network gave this mad genius his own show
@@voodoochild1975az I think if they only saw the pilot episode, it was pretty much a trajan horse, because it seemed like a pretty run of the mill whodunit with soap drama. I suspect nobody had any idea how batshit it was going to get haha.
This man is my Inspiration to write, to create stories and characters with their torments and moments of happines. His works were my Inspiration for my First and so far my only novel which i still have locked some where in my house gathering dust. I'm happy he Was among us. . Thank you David.
This was THE GUY to get me in to filmmaking. Blue Velvet, Lost Highway and Mulholland Dr. (Which I even did my university paper on) helped define my style of filmmaking and helped me understand how creative and unique your voice could be in the industry. By all accounts he was a lovely person too, and I’m genuinely heartbroken he’s gone. This was a beautiful homage to him and reminded me of the legacy he’s left and will continue to leave
My favorite director of all time! When you've watched almost all of his movies and seen so many interviews, it feels like you know him. Never met him or saw him in-person, but it feels like an old friend died. 💔
I have been a fan of David lynch since I saw twin peaks on bbc 2 in 1990 when I was 11 ! Yesterday I was 46 and I found mulholland drive special edition dvd at a charity shop for 50 p ! Then around tea time I got the sad news !!! David thank you for the decades of pure art that touched my soul ! May you rest in peace and dream eternally 🕉️
He inspired me to pursue a creative life, to not give up on myself. Lynch continues to inspire me to be myself, not bombastically or arrogantly, but authentically. R.I.P.
It’s heartwarming to see young people recognising David Lynch’s immense talent & falling in Love with his work. 35+ years ago when I was in my 20’s I came across Eraserhead & have loved him ever since. Ive been so lucky to have had his art in my life & I truly believe I wouldn’t be the same person if not for him. ❤
I was devastated to see he’d passed, such an inspiration to me and so many others, there’ll never be another one like him that’s for sure. Great video.
My favorite movie director. It really hurt when I heard he died. All his projects have fascinated me for decades. I was introduced to David Lynch when in the mid 80's, I took psychedelic mushrooms and went to an art theater and watched Blue Velvet. Very intense. Made a point in following his work from then on
Thank you for your words of kindness. I'm one of many who are coming to terms of David's passing. David will always be a person of mystery and lore to me. But also a friend in my wanting soul. He will always be David Lynch the artist and my life long muse. Thank you.
I think you've hit the nail on the head: David Lynch was a one-of-a-kind artist and human being. There will never be another person quite like him, and this knowledge makes losing him feel all the more devastating. There is a hole in the donut; the hole has his shape and it cannot be filled.
What a delightful tribute. Thank you, Abbie. David Lynch was a shining beacon of hope for what art can attain. His films, for me, always pointed beyond themselves and perhaps beyond reality to a greater mystery. I have admired his work since stumbling onto a late night tv broadcast of Eraserhaed in my teens. His art gets under the skin and taps into the subconscious. Wonderful and visceral and uncanny and tender.
ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS VIDEO!!! I know I don’t really know the man but I know his work and I know how his work impacted me! When I saw the announcement of his death, I was honestly at a lost for words. I felt like a small piece of me was crushed! But this video really comforted me, so thank you!

I saw Blue Velvet when it was released in the theaters. I saw two different screenings and responses from the audience were shock, anger, confusion, laughter, etc. There was nothing in theaters at that time that had the same impact as this film. Critics who hated the movie, years later called it a classic. This is the film that defined American Surrealism which was almost nonexistent in the U.S. A little later he would make the same impact on television with Twin Peaks, changing standard programming to a new form of storytelling never seen before.

This hurt me pretty hard. I was lucky enough to be able to speak to him via Skype at a Twin Peaks cast tour event in Sydney in 2018. I had seen him speak when he came to Brisbane a few years before. The highlight for me was when he mentioned at the Montreal Film Festival after Blue Velvet premiered, he then got to dance with Giulietta Masina, wife & muse of Federico Fellini. I had always wanted to know more about that, & VIP ticket holders for this Twin Peaks event were able to submit questions before hand & those selected were invited on stage to ask him directly. I asked him what Giulietta was like & how that came about, & he responded saying he recalled she was on the jury for the festival & after Blue Velvet screened there was going to be a dinner & party afterwards. One of the festival organisers approached him & said they wanted him to start the dancing with Giulietta. Lynch said he thought he passed & went to heaven. He was dancing with Giulietta & wanting to ask her about Fellini but was at a loss for words. We got to ask two questions & my second one was I was going to be in Rimini to place flowers at the cemetery where Federico Fellini & Giulietta Masina are buried on their 75th wedding anniversary. I asked Lynch if he wanted me to place flowers for him & say anything on his behalf. He was genuinely touched when I asked this & told me he wanted me to say how great they are & how much of an inspiration they were to him. This was an emotional experience for me, connecting with David Lynch over our mutual love of Fellini's work. This was one of the best experiences of my life. Thank you David.
Whoa this is wonderful, no doubt Lynch was inspired by Fellini's work, they both have inexplicable and wonderful cinematography and visuals. Il Casanova was such a shock for me visually speaking.

I havent amounted to anything in my life when it comes to the arts, and while it may not seem like it, this artist had a beyond outstanding influence on my interpretation and subconscious. translations of great art and culture. This news really hits me right in the gut. Rip!!!

Love David Lynch decades of being scared in the 80s as a kid because I was to young to understand growing up understanding and realising the Genius R.I.P True Legend Gone
This is how I find out about the news of D. Lynch death is thru your channel lol. Me deciding to take a internet/smartphone break 3 days ago was perfect timing to be "livin under a rock". Mandatory Twin Peaks marathon this weekend to honor one of the OG's. thanks for the video, Abb's
I just found an app called Criterion Channel. They have a free trial and like 6 of his movies on there. Just finished Fire Walk With Me, and onto Lost Highway. My weekend is spoken for
somethin about david lynch, this smiley old man, just sitting there with a cow makes me smile, people may call his twin peak characters goofy and uncanny, but he is just that as human. he s one of those people thats there to remind you that life is interesting amd beautiful
They had a mutual admiration society going. And considering the esteem I hold both in... anyone that digested and fully understood a 5 hour conversation between those 2 has the equivalent of a PhD in cinema... it would be a 'master class' in the purest sense of the word.
I just started watching twin peaks, and I truly understand. I understand why people love his work so much, specifically twin peaks. Its incredibly important. He gave voice to every woman in fear with Laura. I didnt have a formative experience with twin peaks but i did with life is strange which was directly inspired by twin peaks. Im very happy to finally be seeing some lf his works.
Great take on linking Lynch to futurisim, as another said, Twin Peaks was when TV landed on the moon...futuristic. Happy that you and future generations discovered him. I was an original viewer of Twin Peaks early '90s and then The Return, 25 years later. So, you're right again. At end of S2 Laura says I'll see you again in 25 years...the future. And we did. RIP to the dreamer and the master of duality. Recommend watch TP S1 and S2, Fire Walk With Me (it's hard) then The Return, and yes Mulholland Drive. Also props for noting his other mediums. Also listen to Julee Cruise and the music of Twin Peaks! I feel better about the future.
So true. I remember meticulously recording every episode of Twin Peaks on VHS because I thought it would be nice years down the road to watch them in order--seven or eight at a time in one sitting. NO ONE was thinking of television in this way back then. Plus, the idea of never seeing those episodes again once they aired was heartbreaking (I always watched the episodes over again 2 or 3 times anyway). I think there was a VHS release at some early point of the first season. I can't remember if the second season got a release, but I don't think so, and in any case I was a poor teen who couldn't have afforded any of that back then anyway. If memory serves, even the Costco season 1 VHS set was pricey, but it was VERY popular for a while.
@@greyeyed123 Hearing you, still have my VHS boxed set!....Worldvision Home Video....says copyright 1990, 1993, of course, luckily given to me as a present by current spouse yay....says Episodes 1-29 (six tapes) so did take in both...be kind rewind...
@ They must have been recorded in SLP speed to get them all on 6 tapes. I think that was kind of rare back then, but I do seem to remember buying something back then (or a few years after) that was in SLP (maybe the V miniseries? I can't remember, but I probably still have it whatever it was). I still have the TP episodes I recorded off the air, although I missed recording the pilot (I didn't know I was going to love the show until after I watched it). I think I missed another episode where they aired two back to back and I didn't know it. I only discovered the first season during it's second run right before the second season aired. The ABC news Gulf War updates are at the beginning of many during the second season. (I remember complaining about them and my dad grumbling, "Is the war interrupting your show??" lol)
god bless you, spreading the good word. after 15 years i still feel "new" to the world of david lynch, i suspect i will for the rest of my life, that is part of the magic. i struggle to think of a director in our time that has affected so many of the past generations, and will no doubt, affect the future generations. it transcends budget or popularity. just straight up purity of vision executed with a whole heart. excited to continue my lynch journey and for you to continue yours.
So glad we have people like you and the commenters below me to understand this amazing work as if you did it yourselves! I look forward to your artistic endeavors!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this Abbie, been watching the David Lynch listening to rain, smoking and reflecting on art for an hour videos on UA-cam on repeat since the news of him becoming sick and now just don't know how to feel. Incredible man and sad loss but great tribute made on his behalf, hope to see more of your thoughts on Twin Peaks and what art means now when the creator has passed and all that is left behind is their stream of consciousness of what life was like from their own world within. Thank you again!

I havent amounted to anything in my life when it comes to the arts, and while it may not seem like it, this artist had a beyond outstanding influence on my interpretation and subconscious. translations of great art and culture. This news really hits me right in the gut. Rip!!!
You never miss! Great video again! Truly a shame we lost him so soon.
he will be deeply missed. a massive piece of the word 'cinema' has just left us.
never actually watched or explored his stuff, saw the twin peaks movie and it freaked me out a a kid and never tried to watch the show or any of his other stuff, i can appreciate he had a unique take and get he was creative, idk i just never felt the urge to look more into him, good video
Rest in peace Mr. Lynch
Love David Lynch decades of being scared in the 80s as a kid because I was to young to understand growing up understanding and realising the Genius R.I.P True Legend Gone
I love David
David Lynch was an absolute one off. We’ll never see the likes of him again sadly
R.I.P Mr. LYNCH
My weekend is spoken for
Legends never die
@1:08-1:09 he opens his mouth at the precise moment the flute starts a phrase and it's too perfect
Miss you already, Mr. Lynch
Great director.. big fan of twin peaks
Highly recommend his 3hr masterclass on the art of life
The centre of each one is breathtaking
The title says it all. One of the best
My favorite director. I'm so heartbroken.
❤️
Beautiful video. These tributes of him has me bawling once more 🥹❤️
He was so special. What an artist. Great video. Appreciated.
this is amazing.
He is amazing
somethin about david lynch, this smiley old man, just sitting there with a cow makes me smile, people may call his twin peak characters goofy and uncanny, but he is just that as human. he s one of those people thats there to remind you that life is interesting amd beautiful
Beautiful tribute to his legacy and memory.
Still have a ton of his stuff to watch but from what I've seen he's one of my favorite Directors.
I would've loved to seen a 5 hour conversation between David Lynch and Stanley Kubrick
Stanley used to take people to his house to watch his favorite film ever and it was Eraserhead
They had a mutual admiration society going. And considering the esteem I hold both in... anyone that digested and fully understood a 5 hour conversation between those 2 has the equivalent of a PhD in cinema... it would be a 'master class' in the purest sense of the word.
What a wonderful soul.
David was like the Bjork of movies.
I refuse to elaborate ×
i first encountered david lynch when i watched a 20 minute video of him cooking quinoa. he's an extraordinary character and will be missed!
That 'frog moth' story he tells in that video shows exactly how he experiences things, I think it's really important.
There will never be another mind quite as wonderful as David lynch
I miss his weatherman channel so much I’m actually considering doing my own just to feel happy. He’s a real legend.
god bless you, spreading the good word. after 15 years i still feel "new" to the world of david lynch, i suspect i will for the rest of my life, that is part of the magic. i struggle to think of a director in our time that has affected so many of the past generations, and will no doubt, affect the future generations. it transcends budget or popularity. just straight up purity of vision executed with a whole heart. excited to continue my lynch journey and for you to continue yours.
So glad we have people like you and the commenters below me to understand this amazing work as if you did it yourselves! I look forward to your artistic endeavors!
great talk and thanks for the upload, very appreciated 👍🏼
A true gigant artist , we will never watch a new Lynch Film... Thats truly sad
I js miss him dude
sounds stupid as shit but like knowing Ill never see anything new from him truly makes me sad
Rest in peace. Great video.
Yes we did. He made the word Great. x We need more like David Lynch. He is exceptional.
Abbie Ree posts and I click even if I don't know what the subject it is always brilliant I she a bright future for this awesome young lady she's super professional I can see her talking about art/film and many other things on TV one day .
RIP David Lynch
I'm so bummed to hear about David Lynch 😭. Seriously, one of the most visionary directors ever. From Eraserhead to Twin Peaks, he just created such unique and unforgettable worlds. Definitely going to rewatch Mulholland Drive tonight in his honor. What's your favorite Lynch film? #RIPDavidLynch #Legend
❤️ It’s hard to say as there is still so much of his art I am yet to watch, I can’t really say I have a favourite but everything I’ve seen has had me thinking in a totally different way. Do you have a favourite ?
We lost such an incredible one of a kind artist he will forever be missed ❤️
Very well said young Miss! I wish you many years in this strange, strange pond catching many glimmering fish of your own ! I hope you'll share some specific thoughts on his works someday. It's Mulholland drive for me. Infinitely heartbreaking. I cry every time. 👋
Was on the bus last night when I found out the news :(
