Wow, Dimash TOTALLY lived up to the hype -- what an incredible vocal talent! I really, really enjoyed analyzing this one -- Dimash does so many amazing things with his voice, and it was a lot of fun to break them down. Looking forward to the next one! Also, I tried uploading this video FIVE TIMES with varying degrees of blurring, darkening, overlaying text, etc. to avoid copyright issues, and this is what I landed on. I saw that Elizabeth from The Charismatic Voice managed to upload a totally clean video and I have no idea how -- I'm guessing that because her channel is so successful, she probably has power to negotiate since she can give an artist a ton of exposure. Anyway, hope you enjoy!!

Elizabeth (to be precise, her husband) actually negotiated with Yoola (company doing the youtube stuff for Dimash) for a long long time and finally got the permission to upload any reaction to him without the fear of getting blocked. Normal reactors like you and pretty much everyone else will unfortunately have some problems with Yoola though. The most important thing though is to see your reactions and hear your thoughts because most of us viewers will already have watched the video a lot of times. So no worries if you have to blur it or put an overlay over the video, it's totally fine.
I loved your reaction & the knowledge you've brought into it. Already subbed to you after your reaction on voiceplay but Dimash is my fav singer of all time for sure, so I'm happy you found him!!! If you want to hear a more operatic performance of him, there is a fresh upload of Ogni Pietra (original) on his channel: ua-cam.com/video/TLOVgO8cvx0/v-deo.html
It is from his digital concert from January this year. The backstage part is lip synced (show for the start of the concert) but once he is on the stage it's all live.

Maybe if you want a more operatic style, you can listen to Ulisse. It's a duet with a full on opera singer (Aida Garifulina). He stays very conventional until the very last notes where he soars with her. Otherwise, there is also Ti amo cosi and he sings with Aida and Lara Fabian who is a pop singer, not fully operatic but I believe he stays in the ranks for the whole song..

I saw him years ago in a small theatre in LA for a Kazahstan cultural event. He literally ran in as it was about to start. They held for 10 minutes for him to check the mic, etc. He sang 2 songs with music on tape. The sound system was rudimentary. The mic was very dry - no reverb, etc. I was front row center. He had to pull back off the mic - honestly he didn't need one. I'm saying this as someone who ran a musical theatre company for 20 years in a 1,200 seat theatre- his power and control are stunning.
Someone asked what genre he sang in and I answered "yes".

Dimash has had to defend the fact that he sings live even though people speculate or outright say otherwise. For several years he use to move the mic back and forth sideways away from his mouth so you could hear his voice cut in and out to prove he sings live....I think he finally doesn't care what people think....but he has said in a rather "tired/frustrated" tone in interviews he sings live...he does not lypsynch

    • @PeterBarber
      @PeterBarber  2 роки тому +2

No, it’s because it’s extremely common for major performing artists to record their performances in the morning of the show, or the day before, then lip sync during the actual show (or sing with their mic either turned off or way down). It’s not because they can’t perform it live - it’s because it eliminates any risk of major mistakes.

Asia Музыка gave this info about the Kobyz instrument: It is an ancient tool of the people who lived in the East, including nomads. It was used in ancient times by steppe shamans-healers for various rites.
The Kobyz is made from a single piece of wood. This is one of the oldest ways of making musical instruments in the history of mankind. It is not due to technical backwardness or the lack of metal devices.
According to the ancient beliefs of many peoples, only in a single piece will the living singing soul of the tree remain, which will sound in the instrument.
The open body and strings of the kobyz from a bunch of 30-60 untwisted horsehair give a very thick, overtone-rich timbre. The musician Olzhas Kurmanbek,is probably the best player in the world right now. Dimash's ending note is held for 19.52 seconds.

👉 A Dear wrote: “Dimash is not only a singer, but a messenger of something very deep that has been lost in music lately ... Dimash invades our soul and never leaves it.”
On August 19, 2021, for the first time the sound of kobyz was heard on the stage of the New Wave Hall in Sochi Olympic Park.
The tandem of Igor Krutoy (piano) and Dimash Qudaibergen (voice) with the best Kobys player in the world Olzhas Qurmanbek, have presented a new, really unique song in English with enchanting oriental melodies.
The idea to add kobyz to the new song came to Dimash after he first heard the melody "Stranger". He decided that the folk instrument would fit perfectly into the song, giving it an exciting sound. The performer of the kobyz part is Olzhas Kurmanbek.
The music was created by Russian song-writer Igor Krutoy (musictitan, billionaire), and the lyrics were written by Mary Sharon Vaughn (*1947, is an American musician, songwriter and producer. She writes hits for famous singers around the world) The main arrangement was made by Dimitris Kontopoulos (Greece) and Yerlan Bekchurin (Kazakhstan).
“It was Dimash’s talent that inspired me to write this song, his immense vocal abilities and his desire to sing for a large international audience. Franky, I don’t see anyone else who could perform this piece in such a way”, - Krutoy said. (Source: Dimashnews)

You can see the traditional Qazaq strings instrument - Qobyz. Qobyzist - Olzhas Qurmanbeck.
    Legend of Korkyt-Ata
He came from the Syrdarya steppes and lived in the VIII-IX centuries. On the Syrdarya, in the Karmaksha district of the Qyzylorda (Red Horde) region, there is a probable burial place of Korkyt.
Some believe that before the birth of Korkyt, an eclipse of the sun occurred, thunder rumbled and a storm began. The child who frightened the steppe was nicknamed Korkyt, which means "scare". Throughout his life, he searched for the key to immortality. But wherever his foot went, Korkyt was faced with symbols of imminent death.
On his camel Zhel Maya Korkyt traveled all over the Earth, but nowhere could he hide from the grave prepared for him. And only music could stop time and even death itself.
So, from the shirgai tree Korkyt created a musical instrument with strings stretched over it, wrapped in camel skin - the first kobyz on which he poured out his thoughts and feelings. Only falling asleep and involuntarily stopping playing, Korkyt ata went to another world.
About twenty works of Korkyt ata have survived to this day, about 12 kyuis are written in notes, some have several versions. Each of them has its own special creation story. The most famous among them are "Tengri kyuy", "Korkyt kyuy", "Elim-ai, khalkym-ai" (My people), "Elmen koshtasu" (Farewell to the homeland).

I think people get very confused between what Opera is and what Classical training is. Dimash has never called himself an opera singer, and the only piece of Opera I’ve heard him sing was from Lucia Di Lammermoor, the aria from the mad scene. It’s used in the Fifth Element to precede the Diva Dance which he sings as well. Even the song Tu Vas ma Detruire he sings with Sundet is from a musical and not an opera. His is however classically trained in the Bel Canto style, as well as his Jazz training and musical theatre. His musical education has been excellent.
His classical training as well as everything else gives him the vocal techniques he employs is the cross-over genre which is the style in which he has said he hopes to further his career. But who knows where this magnificent singer will end up because he can’t be boxed in , he turned down the opportunity to sing in an opera company, he wants to do his own thing which includes singing his own compositions.
Thank you so much for not having a classical bias and seeing this quality singer for what he is, and for appreciating the skill he has and the work it has taken to get there.
STRANGER has become one of my favourites, but I have many where Dimash is concerned.

    Greetings from Russia, Peter!
I listened to the song "Stranger" performed by Dimash five or six times and that's what the picture was drawn in my imagination:
In some witchcraft world, a group of witches performed some kind of ritual on a person (possibly sick), as a result, due to a mistake, a person from a completely different world and time turned out to be in this world instead of him. He first tries to look around unnoticed and understand - where did he get to? An unfamiliar world, an unfamiliar land and environment, but he needs to get together and find his place in this world. After considering the situation and sorting out the options, he decides to take active actions, he still finds a way to arrange his life in this world!
That's how I understood this song, and you may have a different opinion.
The instrument that you are interested in is called KOBYZ, it is an ancient folk instrument from Kazakhstan, where Dimash is from.
And thank you so much for such professional explanations!

He says he doesn't want to be put in a restrictive slot where he can't improvise- his favourite thing to do. Plus he likes experimenting with different genres. He speaks of PopOpera. The instrument at the beginning and further on is the Kobyz, a traditional Kazach instrument. Dimash IS also an opera singer though, he was invited to come work at the opera of Astana, but he turned the offer down because this was not what he wanted to limit himself to. He wants to do everything; opera, jazz, pop, soul, folk, ...he even raps. At the moment his range is at least from C2 to D8, but it's still evolving. Apart from that he's a multi instrumentalist (piano, drums, dombra, ...). But I think the most impressive thing is his humble, grateful, respectful enchanting personality.
Maybe fun for you to check out Olympico (Ogni Pietra).

He sings a bit more in the style of opera I guess......(I really don’t have any knowledge of the genres, just a little knowledge from UA-cam videos)...... and the more recent version of that song would be better I guess...... versions really have nothing different in what he does vocally, I just think the backing music in the recent one is the better one of all, as of now... and he sings from baritone to soprano, again there’s that wide range of his.......hope you do react to it 😊

His total commitment to the story in appearance, dress, body language, and emotion is like a mini-opera. Or a Popera if you like. He can play the note he wants anytime he wants, go from tenor to soprano in one second, sing in any style, and hold notes for 20 seconds. Dimash has been singing since he was 5 years old. You should check Dimash singing with the Super Vocal Boys a Queen Medley where you will be amazed at the harmony. Dimash does not have a music genre. He sings pop, rap, opera, R&B, Rock, Folk, theater music among other genres. He also sings in 12 different languages and dances. If you like Opera check Dimash singing Ulyssis.

Definitely Olimpico would be the next logical choice... its probably the closest he goes to pure opera and its even sung in Italian! (He sings in like 8 languages ha!) Other favorites Sinful Passion, SOS (Slavic Bazaar) Across Endless Dimensions and Ave Maria...

Be With Me например или Know где он в белом костюмчике - чистая фанера

    • @serrandom4451
      @serrandom4451 2 роки тому +2

и как сказано выше, эти все записи с каналов обычно фанера, чтоб на экране звучало четко, т.е студийная запись, настоящий лайв с концертов взят и с шоу)

Just as Pentatonix has their Pentaholics, Dimash has his Dears- fans that will travel the world to attend his concerts and support him. He is a philanthropist, but quietly. His Malaysian Dears made a donation in his name to a Malaysian children’s hospital.

I truly appreciate your dissection of the musicality of the vocals. I learn so much. Too, I am a fan of your voice. It is a pleasant plus to listening your program.
