My car was totaled a few days ago. So I was in the market for another vehicle. Of course safety ratings were a priority. But I didn't even know what I wanted. I wanted to research and test drive everything. I used to be a truck guy but I had gotten to the point for something to get me to work and back, to be more practical. I loved my Ford Taurus, which held up like a boss in my head on collision, but found myself wanting more cargo room and versatility. I work on locomotives. I'm also a proud Dad and family man, so I wanted something not too big, good gas mileage, good acceleration and power if needed and quality/reliability. I also wanted a good looking vehicle and at a good price. And this CR V was everything I wanted and was asking for and then some! It is absolutely the most practical and versatile vehicle you can find on the market. I bought it and I know it will be my favorite vehicle I have ever owned. It is perfect for the everyday family driver, and I'm a NASCAR fan to boot so I was surprised with the ride quality and power. Absolutely perfect vehicle for me.

We own a 2006 Honda CR-V AWD, our family are extremely satisfied with it in fact we love it, especially my father.
It's babied, cleaned with a 6 month/6000 mile oil change kept everything up to date and made sure it stays that way, forever!
I use two shops for repairs our authorized dealer and a shop that I use to work for, the reason for the dealer visits is frankly for recalls/bulletins, error and faulty codes that cannot be read by the other shop.
We are the second owners of this vehicle with 128763 miles on it and still spinning like a cat.

The Honda CRV is a nice car with a quiet and smooth ride with three limitations.
CVT TRANS - Yes the CVTs have improved and Honda and Toyota are the best but a chain/steel belt can't compete against a gear that won't break or slip under most conditions. Yes they can last 200k but only if you change the fluid every 30k, don't tow, don't drive up mountains, don' t offroad, don't floor it , just baby it from day one. No fun..
TURBO - Turbos give quick fun acceleration (VARROOM) and increased mpg at a cost. Anytime you force more fuel/air into cylinder you increase pressure and heat with reduced engine life and possible fuel oil dilution. Not to mention turbos run hot and need more frequent oil changes to prevent costly repairs.
DIRECT INJECTION - Better combustion equals increased mpg but the intake valves without port detergent gas cleaning in time will get carbon deposits which can affect performance. Only dual injection (Toyota & Ford) can prevent it.
So with all this new technology how will one be able to buy a good used reliable CRV without knowing how the previous owner drove it and maintained it. Do your homework and good luck!!

    • @valdius85
      @valdius85 5 років тому

      hahaha
So belt/chain type CVTs in SUVs are great for people who drive slowly in the flat city without passengers or load. No wonder why I see so many Suzuki and Mazda in Japanese mountains. New Forester is not as popular...
So Toyota (RAV4 in Japan comes with 2.0l and CVT), Honda and Subaru will slowly loos their reliable car name as more people use their heavy SUV i harsh, Japanese mountains.

I see you never drove a piece heave machinery, all have CVT transmissions.

    • @valdius85
      @valdius85 5 років тому

@@pepper13111 What kind of CVT are used? Provide details of weight, torque, working conditions, the speed of torque change etc, please? CVTs are not all created equal.
What is the designed usage environment of these CVT? How is the temperature managed? What is the maintenance intervals? Do they break down? I have seen the "heave machinery" braking down all the time at my work so do not mention the reliability of heavy machines please.
Why CVTs break down so often with low millage?
How can you argue that using the "never drove a piece of machinery..." since the heavy machinery are often unreliable?

But now I have to give the channel a zonk. Whoever shoots your video, is constantly going out of focus when filming. That dummies down the quality quite a bit and it's somewhat distracting. Got my CRV in 2017 ( All Wheel drive 1.5 litre turbo 240 NM torque, 140KW), done 26,500 KM, no issues. Hondas have very high resale value in OZ compared to Kia, Hundai, Subaru. It's displayed on the map and would have been very easy for them to add to the main display so you don't have to have the map open. 3)Your right leg will rest on a very hard plastic that is right there on the main console. It can start to hurt on long drives. I think those are my only complaints. I don't regret my purchase though.

Just bought a 2019 CR-V base LX with (no money down) the 2.4L. Might as well have been brand new because it only had 8 miles on it. Overall, I really like it. Of course my biggest concern is the CVT. But as long as you maintain it properly and don't floor it off the line and don't drive it like a maniac, you got a chance. So YES, this car will definitely need some TLC to have a chance to last a long time. That being said, it does respond fairly well accelerating off the line, but don't expect to win any races with it.

I just bought a 2005 crv for my parents so they can finally replace their 97 Nissan Altima that has served them well but has become another victim of Northern weather and salt on the roads. CVR is in a very good condition considering how old it is and has no rust which is insane for a car that old in Michigan. I wish I was able to afford for them this one tho 😫

We downsized one of our vehicles (a 2016 Honda Pilot) for a 2018 Honda CR-V. Just coming up to 28,000 miles after the first 12 months, no problems whatsoever so far (no idea what the oil dilution problem is which some people are commenting about below). We put 2500 miles on it during the first week on a road trip to Canada (and only had to fill up about 6 or 7 times on the whole trip). CVT noise is slightly annoying under hard acceleration, but that's my only gripe.

Michael, is yours the 1.5 turbo engine? That's the one with the oil dilution issue, so bad that they had to stop selling that engine in China! Oil mixes with the gasoline during combustion and owners say they can smell gas on the oil dipstick and smell it in the car's cabin too.

Hey Joe! In January 2018 I bought a new 2018 Honda CR-V Touring model just like the one in your video and then in March 2018 I started to notice the smell of gasoline inside the vehicle. The first time I noticed it was when I was parked on a gravel parking lot where I park when I go bike riding and initially thought that maybe someone had spilled gasoline on the gravel lot and didn't think anymore of it.
After a few more times of noticing the gasoline smell I did some research and found out that other CR-V owners were having the same problem that I was having and they discovered that there was gasoline mixing with the oil and that you could see and smell it on the dipstick. After reading about what to look for I checked my oil and there was indeed gasoline on the dipstick and it added about 1/4 inch or so to the oil full level which was a concern to me. At that time Honda simply stated that the gas in the oil was normal and was most likely due to the vehicle not being warmed up enough and that it was more noticeable in cold weather climates like where I live.
I gave it some thought and said screw this and in May I ended up trading my CR-V in for a Subaru Outback and I'm glad I did because I didn't want to deal with a turbo engine that was defective. Other than the engine issue I loved the CR-V including the CVT and I found the vehicle to be very quick and nimble and I would still have it if it wasn't for the engine issue. Hopefully Honda has admitted there was a problem and fixed the engine for the 2019 model but I would probably recommend that people look at the new Toyota RAV4 or a Subaru Forester before buying a CR-V with the turbo engine.

Joe. I see that you reviewed the new Subaru Forester about 6 months ago and now the latest Honda CR-V in this video. Which would you take and why? Do you think the AWD is helpful for people living in warm states like Florida? There is some debate on this. Some say the AWD is still valuable for safety and driving dynamics in heavy rain and slippery roads after rainfall. Others cite the AWD adds additional cost, extra maintenance down the road and slightly lower gas mileage and it's not worth it unless absolutely needed. Obviously the Subaru has AWD standard and it's an option on the CR-V.

Raiti's......nice review. I have a 2018 CR-V, which is my 6th Honda. I wouldn't have bought the CR-V if I would of known about the oil dilution and taking 20 minutes of Driving to warm my engine up to not freeze. I am thankful my EX has heated seats(which I have never had before).
Honda has lied to their customers. Not only have they done that, the continued to lie and produce the same problems in their 2018 models when they were aware of it in their 2017 models. I guarantee you that it is also happening in their 2019 models also because if they used the exact same engine, but had truly found a fix, they would be able to correct the problems in the 2017/2018 year production vehicles.
I love the car itself, but if the motor(heart)is crap, what good is the car. Mine has 4,400 miles on it right as we speak. If I could trade it in and not lose $8,000, I would of already done so months ago. On top of that, lets just say the car last until I get ready to sell it. Well, by then, their will be numerous negative reports on it and I will have problems selling it and will also take a big reduction then.
I hesitate to say this, but I am going to anyways since it is videos like yours(Great video presentation)is the reason why I bought the CR-V. I was not aware of the engine or heater problems when I bought it. Imagine putting down over $30K on a vehicle and then finding out that 2 months later, Honda screwed you. This is not the Honda it used to be. That is why they keep dropping down the reliability reports every year from Consumer Reports. Toyota is the way to go in the future for me.
I just wished in a review video that you would make a comment about any issues that are well known at this point. You could say something like "some people on the internet as well as youtube are experiencing gas in their oil". You could go on to say that "Honda says they have found a solution and corrected the issue in the 2019 model" if you are too scared to say anything to cover your butt. Honda may consider that normal, but I do not know of any other individual who thinks it is. Please, if you are going to give reviews on a vehicle, give all facts. By making some kind of statement no matter how small, will at least give people a chance to know they need to do further research before purchase.

Buyer beware: you should consider these reviews to be entertainment, they can’t be held liable and don’t make claims to be Consumer Reports when it’s just an individual like Mr Raiti uploading a relatively quick overview of a vehicle that’s no cost to us. These guys don’t advertise or market themselves as all knowing auto professionals. I just bought a new VW Tiguan and I watched all these reviews but I did lots of research on my own. And I made a buying devious based on a collection of facts for a dozen sources and visited survived department and spoke to other VW owners. Buyer beware. And there is no perfect vehicle as you know. They all have drawbacks and recalls and other issues like Mazda being known to rust or GM using cheap foreign electronics or those which use CVT’s which is a deal breaker for me.

Why is the back floor not flush with the back seats when they are down? Is the floor adjustable to bring it up to the back seat level? Just curious. I thought the seats today were great on the back of the seat, but the bottom of the seat was too hard. Needed more cushion.

Crv! I just had to get out of my Jeep due to countless issues. Brand wise, you’re looking at a much better car with Honda. Jeep will give you many, many problems. Plenty of research that will back that up, just do a quick google search. Plus CRV won suv of the year ;)

Hey Joe..... always liked the CRV, even from its humble beginnings. Nice quality finishes, materials and tons of spec.
Not so mad about the CVT transmission that they come with these days, seems like that's the way manufacturers are going these days.
Another top drawer vid Joe.......nice camera work Tom! 🙌🙌
