Hi there, thanks for the video! I'm applying for a PhD position that requires a cover letter. Can you tell me if there are any differences between a cover letter and a motivation letter?
Nope, this is actually a cover letter that I used to get admit for the PhD in 2017. I thought they are very similar so I titled it like this but normally the motivation letter is bit detailed.
Bro there is difference between cover letter and motivational letter. You wrote it's motivation letter but when we go to download through link there written cover letter So, is it motivation letter or cover letter please reply thanks
Sir, a Phd application states that one should following attachments are needed: a motivation letter, your academic CV and a statement that you are willing to look for additional funding. Sir, I wanted to know about "a statement that you are willing to look for additional funding", do I have to write another application in addition to motivation letter??
I don't know what is an application for additional funding. If certain position is asking for that then may be you don't have guarantee for funding for the whole PhD, and you may need to write one. So, please clarify that before applying or joining with the university or Prof.
Hello Sambit bhaiya. Thank you this was really helpful. I have been mailing professors since 2 months now but none of them are replying...my first priority is the Netherlands.
You need to apply via academic transfer website for PhD in Netherlands. You can obviously Email profs. to ask informally for openings or building contacts but sometimes you need to send a lot of Emails before you can get a reply. Still, you can try that and try to write short messages and be patient. It may also happen that you don't get any reply. So, better keep checking academic transfer where you will find the official openings of any PhD in Netherlands!
Yes, they are the same. I also wrote this as the cover letter when I applied. Just for the generalization of the video the title says motivation letter but here both mean the same. Check my first pinned comment for more details!
@@SambitPhD thankx!! I also saw your CV it's amazing but a bit confusion on that, you kept your short certification courses in experience section. So, can we keep certification courses on experience section of CV?!
@@Data_In_real_world Yes, you can keep anything as long as you think it's important for that position or as long as you can explain that if they ask you any questions :)
I don't think so. But, this gap should be clearly explained with what you did that justifies towards your PhD or if you took some off time then what you did. Try to bridge this with a good story telling in the motivation or cover letter.
Can you read my research purposal problem is i dont have thesis or topic in mind because I cannot find a gap in knowledge im not inventing anything how u guys write thesis and hypothesis i still only covered 2% of my material how im supposed to write a thesis
A video on PhD research proposal coming soon. Writing a research proposal and a thesis are completely different and thesis develops slowly over time. Thesis video will also come soon when I start writing my thesis.
Sir how many attempts it took before you got the interview call? Also how long do we have to wait before getting any response from the project supervisors? Actually I'm also looking to apply for PhD in Netherlands.. up till now I wasn't selected in three of the projects. For one project there has been no response yet though it has been around 20 days since the closing date.
For me it was more than 20 attempts if I remember correctly. Probably max 1-2 months after application you should hear from them otherwise don't hesitate to email them and ask about the status of your application!
Very well explained..I have done MBA healthcare but No experience in research field..Can I apply for PhD in epidemiology without research background or thesis..(currently I am staying in Maastricht) Is it ok to write a motivation letter without thesis??
I don't think there is any issue to write a motivation letter without thesis. Only keep in mind to establish some kind of research experience with the help of a project/internship that you have done before which proves your research capability
@@shravanthpaturi7946 Normally 90 and 120 ECTS are acceptable for PhD here. So it should be okay but still it is better to confirm with that university to be on safe side
Hi bro, I did my ug in chemical and currently in my master biotech. I took a year gap to understand the basics in biotech. So, far I have published 1 research article, 1 review article, written a book chapter, 1 research article submitted recently & 2 more research article will be completed soon. All this are, I did it in my master studies... Frankly speaking, I didn't do anything informative during my ug. So, should I inform why change from chemical to biotech? And can I skip the part of my ug?
Normally it depends on the PhD position you are applying for. So, if you want to make your Masters part more prominent for the committee then you can mention about UG in very brief without going into the details instead of skipping it.
