The cap is supposed to keep rain out while the truck is parked and off. Normally, the stack would fill with rain water, then when you ran it afterwards, it would blow wet soot all over your truck.
Nice set up didn’t think you could make rain caps for that kind of stack. Before this video I thought only the un slanted/ pointy stacks where the only ones you could put a rain cap on but I like this set up way better
That is how the flapper is supposed to go on. Even if rain found its way down in there the heat from the exhaust would evaporate it before it had a chance to do any damage.
@transamfan81 It doesn't matter if the flapper catches the rain while its running since the water will evaporate about a foot down the pipe. When it's not running the flapper closes (obviously)
It only really matters when your driving and its open, in which case raindrops aren't going to hurt your exhaust. They'll boil off or get blown out before getting anywhere.
when the engine is off, it keeps rain and snow out of your stacks, so they dont rust, and so the rain and shit dont get into your exhaust system/ engine
How does the smarty system work? Is there something that splits the crankshaft, or is like a jake brake with the valves opening up to prevent fuel combustion?
Yeah. What you said. Im gonna admit and say it looks weird. But it IS installed correctly. Thats why i like CAT stacks. no need for rain caps. I think the xprthntr1 guy owns a gas truck, and is just jealous lol
Isn't a flapper supposed to keep out the rain water? Having the hinge on the rear defeats the purpose. The airflow from driving forces it open letting in rainwater. Only force the should open it is the compression.
Is it just me or does anyone else realize that flapper defeats its own purpose. That flapper seems like it would just catch the rain. All other flappers I've seen are mounted opposite that to block the rain.
Not even hating but what is the function of having a stack? I understand the looks of it and it gives the truck a semi-feel but is there any science behind performance when aiming your exhaust straight into the air as opposed to out the back or side?
aint no rain gonna get in there when its running haha and flappers mounted the other way will choke the exhaust a when moving fast. someone actually thought about this one

I don't understand why there is so much hate, I think it looks and sounds pretty bad ass.

i like the rain cap looks sick

Not if it sat for a while and got water in it, it could do damage to the engine's exhaust valves
I would have put it the other way but it's up to you. Looks absolutely sick with that cap. I've always wanted one.
Ting Ting Ting Ting

Flaps on backwards. Just gonna let rain and drag air down in the exhaust.
that flap is not on backwards. thats how a miter cut flap is put on. a straight cut flap opens from the front.
ShamusOGrady2 you are prob one of these city boys... like the water would go down there if driving...
How many of y'all actually live in something other than a subdivision?
I think it looks badass....nice addition!
Looks great and sounds great! BIG THUMBS UP!!!!! never seen a flapper like that!!!!!
Beautiful!
Hi, in Australia you can get them from a company called Tieco International. Google them for website.

SWEET JOB BROTHER- rock on
when the engine is off, it keeps rain and snow out of your stacks, so they dont rust, and so the rain and shit dont get into your exhaust system/ engine
its on right, ive seen semis with the exact same setup
if i could hear it clap everytime i shifted i would go nuts
I've seen you a long while back in the woodlands
hey man nice truck love the sound but u put the rain cap on backwards
Looks good and practical
Sweet truck amn, i wish i had a diesel haha
I need some of these
Flap needs to be top to bottom
Rainy days waters sitting in the exhaust
@ramwheels
Oh hell yeah, truck sounds amazing.
where did you get the flapper cap for the miter stack anyways?
@xprthntr1 your thinking of stacks that are cut straight not an angle.
How does the smarty system work? Is there something that splits the crankshaft, or is like a jake brake with the valves opening up to prevent fuel combustion?
if possible could you show a video of how you installed it
Hell yeah brother
the only thing is if you park up hill the rain cap will stay open
awesome soundin CUMMINS. what trubo and manafoid do you have?
love it. nice cummins.
FUCKIN' NICE!.. Reminds me of an old school "suicide door".. hinged different
Would it hit the stack if you had an idle loop on it? bc that would sound cool
I looks like packman is hungry again, never satisfied ahahaha looks good tho
where did you buy all the parts? sounds and looks good
Can you tell me where or what brand the flaps are? Thanks
Yeah. What you said. Im gonna admit and say it looks weird. But it IS installed correctly. Thats why i like CAT stacks. no need for rain caps.

nice video man. looks good and nice job. how does that sound inside the cab though? is it loud and drones a lot?
THE FLAPPER IS SO THE RAIN DOESNT GO INSIDE THE STACK AND WHEN YOU START IT IT DOSNT PUKE WET BLACK SOOT ALL OVER YOUR TRUCK
cap it off with some beer cans when not running. LOL
I like the set up you got where you get it at
where did you get the parts to build that.. looks really nice
@xprthntr1 dude his cap is done right
what kind of muffler? how bad is the cab noise?
Is it just me or does anyone else realize that flapper defeats its own purpose. That flapper seems like it would just catch the rain. All other flappers I've seen are mounted opposite that to block the rain.
mostly looks and sound
love it

It sounds cooler from in the cab
How can i make a rain cap
does the flap cup the stack or just lay on the rim
Reminds me of my old farmall H.
what makes it smoke like that
@SSGfuckSHITup We have em on my grandpas semi for a good 4 years and well over 300,000 miles...
Where did you get the flapper
what year is the truck?
Ok the gayness has officially went off the charts
Wut fuel pump u have ?
not even straight piped
Boo hoo now you gonna go home and cry on your moms shoulder. He probably has the muffler to keep exhaust drone out of the cab
Those types of mufflers are used to give it a deeper growl. Still loud enough for most.
I agree. If your going to go through all the trouble to cut the muffler off, then why go through the trouble to put one back on?
I can understand why, my dodge is straight piped with a 5 inch stack and I can’t hear my kickers if I go over 55
I’ve had hood stack to dual stacks to soflo stacks and they aren’t that loud unless windows are down even then it’s not terrible
iowa 80 has them
def a cummins
aint no rain gonna get in there when its running haha
and flappers mounted the other way will choke the exhaust a when moving fast.
someone actually thought about this one
no smoke
cool
Awesome. Just cut off that damn muffler. It's a diesel. Let it breath and smoke
alsome stack
tang tang:p
looks good
raneystruckparts.com sells them
