The best tip I received so far was to buy the cheapest van we could find, spend as little as possible on a conversion to “test” van life: if we like and what we need. Than, find a good van and follow the process. Nice video, thanks 😊
Oh that’s super interesting, never thought of that! Maybe you could find a van to rent and try it out that way too? Might be cheaper and less labor intensive
The Matneys aka Minimal Millennials aka Christian & Aubry catch up marathon in full effect! Your videos are awesome, both of u are so relatable, so positive, so brave! Enjoy & safe travels always! Maybe start making 2 videos a week again!? Pretty please! Said with love, TY! ✌️❤️👍
Loved the tips and advice. Amazingly enough some of your tips are universal to life in general and helpful to people who haven't converted to van life yet. Have a great week!
I've seen you guys say that you keep running out of underwear...why don't you hand wash them? If you have to sneak them into the gym and hand wash them in the shower and hang them up to dry in the van or outside or something. or you could build a makeshift washer with a 5 gallon bucket and a plunger. Just cut a hole in the lid for the plunger handle and then you could wash a couple shirts too. And for aftèr just buy a gallon jug or so just for laundry...just an idea!😊
not a bad idea at all. I honestly think we just need to re stock on some clothing items. At the moment I don't really want to deal with the washer taking up some space but that might be a key thing to do once we travel south of the states. Thanks for the idea!
Fun seeing what you guys are sharing. My wife and I have been traveling out of our 2004 for about 2 years now. Currently doing a lot of prep for our version 2 build and super pumped!
A little of both actuallly. I live in british columbia. We've never done a longer full time stint in the van, as our setup isn't the best for it. but that time is coming.
I think some people think full time RV'n (or van life) is like a permanent vacation. It couldn't be further from the truth. If you approach is as a job, meaning have discipline and flexibility, you're far more likely to enjoy the lifestyle! You guys got it figured out! Enjoy!
@Bromega: Check out the Where's Your Neighborhood channel's van conversion video. They go in depth about how things are framed and insulated inside from raw & various things they needed to consider to avoid leaks / etc.
Roxul is the best ....it's heavy but it's amazing ....spray foam over time will release gases which are not good to breathe and loose the r value quickly
That quote though "Your finances will be a mess, your schedules will be a mess, your habits will be a mess, but you'll be just fine, you'll be a vanlifer". Haha, love it!
hey guys.. idk if you read comments on your old videos but I had an idea.. when you said you wanted a way to host people, maybe you could figure out a way to fold your mattress in half during the day, the empty platform would leave room for people. the other idea is get extra throw pillows for your bed and they could double as sitting cushions on your floor :)
You guys rule. You are living the van life successfully. Do you have any idea how many people want to start this kind of life ( myself included)? What prohibits that is fear of failure. Very good and informative video. Thank you so much!
Massive love from the UK! Great couple, and wonderful to see people the same age as myself doing something so fantastic! Also would love more What I Eat in a Day videos - find those super cool! Xxx
You van build is one of the most unique builds I have ever seen, I love it so much, it's so sleek! your videos are super helpful; you guys are always talking about tapping into the vanlife community. I was hoping you could tell us who you guys follow/ watch now and when you were doing prep for moving into your van?
Thanks so much! We obviously watch Eamon and Bec, also Dynamo Ultima and Jinti Fell. We have found that instagram is an awesome way to connect with the community.
rock yeah yeah me too! Can’t get enough of you, guys! 😍 I live at the opposite place of the Earth :) in Romania. It is always a pleasure to watch your videos. I’ve been watching you since living in the apartment. Love you! Hugs and kisses! Keep inspiring us! 🤩
So drawing the floor plan daily and looking at videos like I've been doing is a good thing. And taking my time. I'm going head first in this after the holidays. I can't wait to get started. I'm still changing my mind to much. But thanks for the info and tips.
I'm not sure if you're already doing this, but I'm planning on moving into a van around August, and I am all over instagram (vanlife.magazine is a great inspiration resource), tumblr, etc. (as I'm sure you are too). But I have a folder of inspiration on my computer, and an album of insta screenshots of vans that I love! Looking at all of them, is super helpful to give you more rounded out ideas. Recently I started printing the pics and glueing them and other ideas/ advice from people that I've heard into a book with notes about why I like those pics, etc. It sounds like a lot I know, but we're all pretty into it!
Sorry I'm late getting a reply to you. I have a shuttle bus I'm in the beginning process of converting, and always look at the videos. But the folder sounds like an awesome helpful tool. I've already started documenting what I want and the names of materials I need to get.
Thank you so much. Honestly your videos have helped motivate me into moving foward with actually leeping with buying a van. Doing research with what I would like to have. What I am willing to live with and without.
Dude AMAZING. It means so much to us that you would comment that! Can’t wait to hear more about what kind of van you choose and your build and everything, Ruth!
Well done video and nice information. Keep it up. I agree with others that you both are fun and enjoyable to watch - nice to have a video with personality.
Really awesome that you shared your builder info I’m a girl and man I would not do something like this myself but almost finished w my major ; RN.....plan to work for 9months for hands on training and do travel nursing and I want to “Sprinter Van Life” and be able to park anywhere.... (maybe) but thanks for builder info......from Houston Texas
4 min into the vid and gotta say the scarf & glasses are great. Really suit you. I have too many scarves & px glasses. You guys are funny and don't yell or condescend. Nice video. Merci.
awwww...go guys!!!! love it...very practical...god im itching to get on the road but i have to get my finances right....thank you for the continued inspiration!!!!
So much great info here, glad I'm stumbled upon your video. I hate that my plan is a little more long term, but Spring 2019 I'm hoping my journey will begin. Cheers!
Great video! I'm super determined to join the vanlife community, but I'm going to give myself a good year or so to save up first and get my freelancing to a stable position 😊 I can't wait to join you on the road! Keep up the awesome advice and info. I love watching your videos 💜
Just subscribed, thank you for the tips,i didn't do a build i decided on a older class b honorbuilt camper van..safe travels guys hope to see you on the road we leave march of 2018 first stop Colorado
We're using a Canon t5i in this video with a 10-18mm lens and a rode video mic pro. But we actually JUST upgraded and have a video coming out about it in a few minutes!
This is a fascinating movement, van life, to me, a fifty year old dad. I love your enthusiasm. And the name of your van. Where do you park your van each day/night?
Hello, I found your video because you helped Jordan and Kaylee, and they showed you guys on their video and they had a link to your video's and channel. My wife and I will NOT be converting a van into a RV, so I am wondering if you guys had any "tips" for buying a Class B Motorhome. We are looking for a Class B with under 20K miles on it, and still under warranty. I like your video because you guys have great "tips" on life on the road. Thanks, Dave
I love your videos. 👏 Could you do a video on meeting new people. I don't mean the van community but rather rolling into a small town 🏙️ 🚐 and striking up conversations with complete strangers 👨 👩 👴 👵. You both come across as extroverts. Finding out significant or interesting things about other people's lives. I know that in TODAY's world, people are much more distrusting to open up, much less talk with, strangers. One great disarming tool I use when approaching someone I don't know is to start the conversation with, "You look like an interesting person to talk to." I really would enjoy hearing your experiences on this subject. 😀
That is such an interesting idea! And I like what you say about how you'll start conversations with people. We've actually tossed around starting a podcast featuring the interesting people we meet on the road because we meet so many!
A good rig is key! We rushed our build since we moved off Maui, Hawaii to buy/build and then travel Mexico and Central America for a couple years. We felt stressed and rushed to get it done and get on the road. I wish I could have just relaxed and taken our time. Now we plan to do a new build before the next big trip.
Yes, very much so! Spent 6 months driving South, and 3 months on the way North. We are returning after Christmas. A wonderful country with wonderful people.
Hey! You're wearing an Unbound sweatshirt! What is your opinion of Unbound and Lumerit and what advice would you give to someone who is considering using it? Love the videos! Planning on joining the vanlife community soon :D
LOL, I appreciate you being you. You both are adorable... those were helpful insights. What would you design differently to be more guest friendly and what changes would you make so you would work in your van more?
I love you guys! All of your videos are incredibly informative. I'm planning to save every extra penny for a van while being in uni at Texas State (the struggle is real lol)
Hey! I’m seriously considering van life, but I have NO experience whatsoever when it comes to construction. what communities could I join to ask questions/get more info on Van life?
Alexandra Morris asos is doing a thing for students where you can make your own t-shirt and they send it to you all for free. You could write that slogan on it and they'll get it to you, all you need is your student email!
I love you guys! You’re hilarious and just seem like super smart, cool fucking people to know. Love to say hi if you are ever in the Steamboat Springs, CO area!
Thank you! Awesome video! I would love to know what you think the benefits of living in a van vs a travel trailer besides the fact that a van is easy to park anywhere and travel trailer isnt. Where would you stay if your van has to go to the shop for repairs? This is what concerns my family if I were to live in a van. ❤
Sherri, this is something that I can't really speak to since I've only tried out living in a van! We are in cities a lot and it is so, so much easier to move around, stealth camp, live less expensively, etc in a van. For us it is a way better call. But I'm sure other people would be a way better fit for trailers. It just depends on what your priorities are.
One other thing that would be great to hear your comments on is, where to do the build, or having a shop or large garage to build the van in. I'm in the Seattle area and its hard to find a place to do a build. Sure I could slam it together in Home Depot parking lot, but I think to do it right you need a shop...thanks for making cool videos.
Yeah for sure, I'm just not sure I have good advice for that one. I'd say just try to find a friend or family who you can work with. We just have used friends and their connections. Everybody knows somebody who has some land or a garage or some kind of space where you could do a build.
Couldn’t you somehow put a desk on top of the bed? Just like a wooden slab that folds down?. And then you either sit on the bed to work on it or you stand in front of the bed?
We have lots of friends and family around the country that whose houses we get to do laundry at as well haha. But if we don’t have them around we just go to a laundromat.
We mostly use a 5 gallon bucket and do it all by hand and line dry it. Save so much money each week doing it yourself....if you don't have lots of friends everywhere you travel.
Why don’t you drive somewhere warm for winter & go to the colder states in summer? Or is that to easy. I’d be by a beach in LA or Florida. Do you have a route your sticking to or just going where you feel?
From my own personal experience, I'd recommend really thinking twice before buying a used, pre-converted van. I love my van, but it's a lot harder to make things the way you want it and they're just a lot more expensive. We also had to replace our entire engine.. literally a couple days after we bought it. lol. Luckily the person we bought it from helped us out, but still. It's been a very pricey process. So that's a tip from a very new van lifer
Mack Bell And drive around with a wind turbine that doubles the height of the van? Lol, nice try, let your brain work harder next time. It sure can do it, i believe in you 👍😉
ua-cam.com/video/IUfgbfw42wA/v-deo.html Please be scholarly with your response instead of derogatory most wind turbines can be folded down when driving. Watch the attached video and you will see the turbine may be 2 ft higher than the camper max. It is not going to double the height.
Ok, sorry for that, had a bad day. But the point is still: Solarpanels work when you're driving too, so windgenerators like these have a big disadvantage from the get-go. You only can use them while parking or they will get blown away, caught by trees or smth similar
Honda Element, Here I come!!! Honda Element is pre-fabricated and eliminates alot of hard work, the design is already created to maximize cargo space and it's already fitted with a durable plastic interior
LEASE A VAN and then build it out? are you nuts?lease means you give it back after the agreed amount of time and within the mileage, typically 3 years/36,000 miles.
im buying something that runs then hitting the road. i will do my build as i travel. i know the layout i want. i just have to save enough to get the van.
You mentioned getting up to “work” other than UA-cam videos... What type of employment /work do you do while on the road? Thanks, first video of your that I‘ve viewed. Maybe mentioned in other post. I will try to catch up, cute informative traveling M.M. couple.
Dani Adams Nothing like it seems in the moment. They just quit their jobs a few weeks ago and i think they try to live off YT for now. I don't buy their freelancing BS they talked about, seems like it was just a Sponsordeal
It's actually through our company Lumerit Education! If you are in school or thinking about University, check them out - lumeritscholar.com Our goal is to keep people out of debt in college.
I love this video. I'm always thinking of doing van life or doing the tiny home thing caus living wit my in-laws can be a bit too much we definitely need our space. Jus dunno where or how we bring along our rabbit & two siamese cats 🤔 hmm If you have an ideas let me know thanks. Love y'alls videos, travels & y'all both cooking together ☺
Thanks man! Get out there for sure. I'd always suggest starting small. If you're thinking about van life, just go on an extended trip together and stay in whatever car you have and see if you like it. Either way, good luck!
Just connected the fact that their van's name is Morrsion.....Van Morrison. Took me way too long. But that is so great
Oh shoot we forgot to mention who we were talking about! 😂😂
Hey wait a minute ... That's my name. (i feel so violated)
Jesus Christ your dumber than these fucks. And they live in a van.
Just realized you guys do you vlogs or updates basically in one take. Very different impressive and demanding of oneself. ,👍
LOL me too!!
Learning a ton from an awesome fresh perspective! The wide eyed, not ass kicked by life sentiment is refreshing.
You guys are awesome to watch. Inspiring for me and my wife. Thanks!

And don't skimp on insulation.
what do you recommend?
In the Skoolie community, spray foam is king. I'm not sure how that would work out for a van conversion though.
cool! like in the holes and crevices?
@Bromega: Check out the Where's Your Neighborhood channel's van conversion video. They go in depth about how things are framed and insulated inside from raw & various things they needed to consider to avoid leaks / etc.

Helpful video guys, stay awesome!
Good to know it was helpful!
Perfect! The exact vid I need to get my van life started(I wish)! Love all your content!
Awesome!!!
Love your videos please post more! Always wondered what type of video set up do you guys have ?
Totally makes sense! How cool that you’re doing a new build. We definitely would love to remodel a little bit to utilize the space a little bit better
We are going to keep with our current one another year, but then we will take what we have learned to do another one.
TTTJ, did you feel safe driving around Mexico?
Yeah Brian. Just don't drive at night. Lots of livestock and poor road conditions can be tough to avoid in the dark.
Yes, very much so! Spent 6 months driving South, and 3 months on the way North. We are returning after Christmas. A wonderful country with wonderful people.
Great video, thanks for filming :)
glad you enjoyed it :)
Love your hoodie. That's why I decided to go to college in Germany.
Thanks! That's why I decided to work with the company I have for college. Totally debt free in college.
I like your sweatshirt! So true!
What things have you guys improved? It looks like everything is pretty bolted on so how would you go around rearranging the furniture?
Can you make a video detailing the last part on the schedule? Its really helpful.
These guys def have the likeability factor
I love you guys! All of your videos are incredibly informative. I'm planning to save every extra penny for a van while being in uni at Texas State (the struggle is real lol)
Thanks Madison! The struggle is real I know, best of luck and hope to see you out on the road!

Hey, I'd love to see a Christmas wish list on your channel.
Anything vegan that is delicious lol
Christian! Where did you get that hoodie? Love it 💙💙 want it 💙💙 thanks for the video guys, these tips are super helpful for me

sweet channel! im 99% sure im purchasing a 91 chevy g25! pretty stoked
One other thing that would be great to hear your comments on is, where to do the build, or having a shop or large garage to build the van in. Couldn’t you somehow put a desk on top of the bed? Just like a wooden slab that folds down?. And then you either sit on the bed to work on it or you stand in front of the bed?
quick question...how do you guys do laundry in a van. Do you have to go to a laundromat everytime? Just curious.
Traveling in areas without friends is traveling. Traveling in areas with friends is couch surfing and mooching..
Old-fashioned way is still viable. A bucket, washboard or just use your hands, and air-dry.
Why don’t you drive somewhere warm for winter & go to the colder states in summer? Or is that to easy. I’d be by a beach in LA or Florida. Do you have a route your sticking to or just going where you feel?
That is what I would do.
Hahaha yeah that is what we should be doing isn’t it 😂😂 We’ll be driving south very soon, but staying close to family for Christmas!
Let us know if you make it to Baja this winter. We are headed down after Christmas.
How do you guys get your mail?? PO Box? Parents' house? Friend's house?
Enjoy your hike!
I have a bachelors in sociology. I’d love to do remote work. What was your major? I’ve binged watched so many videos I can’t remember. Lol
Thanks for sharing this, guys! :-)
Glad you liked it!
Glad you liked it!
Your habits will be a mess is so true. It took me a while to fall into a good schedule that worked for me.
100% agree!
Do you guys hang out around the same town/area or travel to completely new places every day?
We usually stay around one area for at least a week before moving on :)
Dude we had to replace our engine as well!! Great advice. We couldn’t agree more after having some similar experiences. 💛💛
Btw, can y'all do more food videos? I've gotten a lot of ideas from your "What I Eat In A Day" vlogs! #fellowvegan
Totally! More coming soon.
how do you guys feel not having a toilet? is it something you'd incorporate in the renovations?
It actually hasn't been a problem at all and I don't think we plan to add it at this point
Oooh would love to see your redesign video! I love Morrison but I also love builds
Also, the debtsentence sweatshirt is killer!!!! Where did you find that??
Thanks! Got it from Lumerit Scholar lumeritscholar.com
Thanks for a great video!! Random question...LOVE your college shouldn't be a debt sentence sweat shirt....where did you buy it??
Thanks! It's through our company Lumerit Education. The goal of the company is to help people go through college debt free.

Woot woot!! 💛💛
brilliant vid. sooooo much I hadn't considered! school me! please, I really appreciate it! Lol!
I would love to see a video on how you found your van, like what sites worked the best for you
Okay awesome!! We’ll add that to the suggestions list ☺️
Minimal Millennials you have got every thing you need your love for each other I wish you everything that is good in life god bless
Hey guys! you talk about communities for van-life, can mention some? (me and a friend are currently looking for buying a van)
thanks for the video.
start making videos of hiking and all that jazz :)
All the van conversions I see have solar panels. I am still learning about off the grid power, but it seems to me wind power would be good on a van?
Mack Bell And drive around with a wind turbine that doubles the height of the van? Lol, nice try, let your brain work harder next time. It sure can do it, i believe in you 👍😉
ua-cam.com/video/IUfgbfw42wA/v-deo.html
Please be scholarly with your response instead of derogatory most wind turbines can be folded down when driving.
How often do u guys hold a card board sign
How much have you put into your van including the engine?
We made a video about it recently actually! ua-cam.com/video/A_nknSYkV4o/v-deo.html
wow, great info!!!
Thanks!
Thanks for the advice you guys. Do you guys ever think about getting a dog or critter to have adventures with?
Aww man we would love to! But Aubry is allergic to most furry animals so it just wouldn't work out in such a tight space :(
Sorry didn't see your builder friends info. Could you add it please:) thanks so much for this video!!
Sorry about that! It’s there now :)
Minimal Millennials Cheers
Love you guys !
Aww so glad you’re here Jamie!!
I don't buy their freelancing BS they talked about, seems like it was just a Sponsordeal
loooove your sweatshirt! where'd you get that?
My husband and i are considering moving to our van because rent is ridiculous and we are tired of renting rooms
Where do you guys currently live?
Minimal Millennials we currently live in San Francisco
Where can I get that hoodie???? Please please please let me know!!!!
It's actually through our company Lumerit Education! If you are in school or thinking about University, check them out - lumeritscholar.com Our goal is to keep people out of debt in college.
Solar fridge And good & cheap to run heating system (in my opinion)
❤️❤️❤️
I love this video. I'm always thinking of doing van life or doing the tiny home thing caus living wit my in-laws can be a bit too much we definitely need our space. Jus dunno where or how we bring along our rabbit & two siamese cats 🤔 hmm If you have an ideas let me know thanks. Love y'alls videos, travels & y'all both cooking together ☺
Thanks man! Get out there for sure. I'd always suggest starting small. If you're thinking about van life, just go on an extended trip together and stay in whatever car you have and see if you like it. Either way, good luck!
Minimal Millennials I know I gotta save some money for sure soon as I start working again ima save ☺
