4WD Mini Rock Bouncer Build Suzuki SV650 Part 1

  • Today I'm starting a new build a 4WD mini rock bouncer using a Suzuki sv650 for the powerplant. This Suzuki sv650 v twin makes about 75hp and should be perfect for this mini rock bouncer! In the first part I'm fabricating hub adapters for the wheels and looking at the general layout. I'm also starting on the front suspension layout and spindles and ball joints. If you have any suggestions for this build let me know in the comments below!

    Hey Chris. I owned a couple 2005 Suzuki SV650s, it was my first bike and I know them very well. The engine is know to have oil starvation issues during long wheelies so if you plan on climbing some steep hills or rocks another engine may be a better choice. Even if you fix the oil pickup issue the oil will build up in the cylinder at the bottom. Just something to keep in mind. It should have plenty of torque in a low gear but don't expect it to be fast.
    Also be careful removing things because everything on that engine is made of cheese and will strip if you look at it wrong. Other than that it's a super reliable and sweet sounding engine. It looks like you got a CA bike, so you will want to block off the air injection system (PAIR), you don't need that. Also make sure you leave the vacuum chamber on the intake, this is used to dampen the pauses for the intake air pressure sensor and the bike will run like crap without it. It's a little black plastic cylinder on a hose attached to the airbox.
    I look forward to the build, it looks like it's going to be awesome!

    Look up Hollingsworth's "Outlaw" rock bouncer. He built a 4 wheel independent rock bouncer that's pretty nasty. It's a 1 seater, mid engine setup that might work well with what you have. Think outside of the box you're in, it doesn't have to be front engine. The trick to making it a small package is to put stuff where it fits. Your CBR 1000 buggy has a roof that's 14+" too tall. Lean the seat back and bring the roof line down. Put the engine in the passenger seat and the trans behind it. That makes the buggy no longer than your body and only as wide as you and the engine.

    OG subscriber and fab guy here. Love the channel and all the work you put in. Heres my .02. Shaft drive for what youre building, no more chains, pre-built auto transmissions, atvs while the initial investment is more, the motors and transmissions (pullouts) are bolt together WITH reverse already incorporated. Use more premade parts, hubs, spindles, bearings can be found in all different sizes AND cheap for atvs and vehicles. Used and new. Last weight, build every single part with weight in mind, strongest needed part with the lightest fab required. Less weight, faster lighter vehicle.

  • @flintlock_glockTJR
    @flintlock_glockTJR 2 роки тому +27

    Look up "Portal" or "Unimog" axles. You have an opportunity to connect the 2 cv shafts in a way to get very similar ground clearance. I think it would be amazing. Also, go down the rabbit hole of anti squat. Might help you set up your suspension more conducive to what you want it to do.

  • @roderichall201
    @roderichall201 2 роки тому +10

    Solid axles are always best for clearance when rock crawling. I love your idea of framing in the ifs/irs components and creating a solid axle setup. The real benefit is you can locate the diff even higher to allow more clearance. Who needs bigger tires when you can find clearance in other ways. Looking forward to this build 👍

    Thank god! A front engine 4 wheel drive off road beast! I feel like this layout is really slept on. The weight distribution of the engine in front and passenger/ passengers in back, including gas tank and radiator, on a 4 wheel drive platform not only make for great off-road performance, but with a proper setup could kill for on road track usage. Even drifting👀. Love the work man! Keep it up.

    I'm really curious how this one will behave. The big-bro variants have some specific "demands" in terms of weight distribution in order to do the hectic runs they do. I mean, don't get me wrong, i don't expect you to bounce at break neck speeds with it, it's a mini, but it will be interesting to see how it rides.
    Good parts to start with tho, and i'm digging the rims. Good luck with it!!!

      A good solid cage shaped to tip onto its wheels if it tumbles.... Put a good head supportive seat in it. Roll overs will be faster if it goes but smaller objects can catch it as itll be light...ish. I recon itll be just as much fun as the big boys.

One that folds up and can be stored out of the way, with the air compressor and cutter built into the base, along with a whole series of build videos, not to mention your connections with Cars and Cameras, Red Beard, and Grind Hard for guidance on how to go about it. There's also DonDIY who also made one himself. You'd have way more time on the lathe and way less time with the caveman grinder. Also, stack fab for hubs and complex bearing holders.
    Also, I wish someone would do a belt drive 4wd, where the tensioner is also a clutch of sorts.
    Anyway, I love your videos and hope you never ever stop, I'm on the verge of building my first go kart from scratch and you're the inspiration for it!
