I find the way you play strategy games to be extremely exhilarating. By far the most tactical player I've ever seen. Videos are Fantastic as always.
I think it would be nice to have a replay feature for ground combats, where you could watch the battles take place in a somewhat real time view with fog of war removed
Jake would've looked like a genius if he rolled Caesans or Androns with all his smoke, but given the fact that about 1/3 times you will roll Sebillians and their Reaper friends I would swap out about ~1/3 of those smokes for gas to not only knock them out, but use the area denial to funnel them into the corridor of death that was the main ramp of the ship. Obviously hindsight is 20/20 in this regard, and gas wouldn't have stopped them from shooting through the side, but it would have forced the guy with the grenade to take the long way around and probably stopped him having the TU to throw the grenade before being shot to shreds.
Gas can also be a plan D where you knock out your own soldiers with a gas grenade (making reapers and the like ignore them) and give the aliens the runaround with a high TU/high reflexes soldier (à la Superpie on his adventure) and wake them back up with medkits. You never really want to be in a situation where that sounds like a great plan but gas does expand your options to control the battlefield and movement of your enemies.
I'll leave this on whilst I'm at work to give Jake some watchtime (and so that youtube knows I've already seen it) as I already watched the vod of this yesterday on Twitch.
@@GeorgeMonet I wouldn't go as far as to say they are superior. But it is nice to have some if your smokes don't work.
It's a weird state of affairs when your character not getting called up is a good thing, given that that would imply heavy casualties, particularly amongst snipers.

lol me and jake had the same thoughts about the aircraft thought it was flying with the stick down, but his version of it sending plasma sounds worse I thought it looked like a giant axe xD

Update: booted up to play a melee only run on insane, forgot night missions existed and got tpked by sebillians
Every time I get the itch to play, I remember how bad the end mission was and it kills all urges.

This game is too similar to Fallout Tactics. Too similar in the sense, that its extremely difficult to tell whether your target has a clear shot on you or not, at which point you peek out to see whats up, and the target hoses you down with a LMG burst. Fun times.

Dear oh dear, that terror mission was a text book of how not to play it. I hope you've learned a lesson and realize that camping in the heli is the worst possible thing to do. You need line of sight, even if you risk being shot at, because at least you can shoot back.

Long lines of sight help a lot. You can bring a lot of stuff with you in a drop shit. Why not having 3 dudes with rocket launchers with few spare rockets each just to shoot at the scenery to clear any obstacles that xeno scum might use for cover. And if they get caught in the blast even better. No one says that you can't discard these launchers later and pick up shotguns or machine guns once you're done with landscaping.
So, I vaguely recall hearing that base Xenonauts game is barely playable and that you need to run it with like a community patch or something and that on steam it's trivial to do, but what about an Epic Games version for example? Or is the base game genuinely good and the talk about a patch is just something I imagined hearing/confused with another game?

@@DDRJake Oh shoot, I didn't expect the big man himself to answer! Thanks for the link, I'm a huge Xcom enjoyer but I gotta admit that Xenonauts seem to have a way more in depth gameplay with more options and things to keep in mind
@ddrjake you really should have pistols take snap shots instead of aimed ones - three meh shots are usually better than 2 mediocre ones
I'm sure you answered this a bunch of times before, but is there a reason you say "left tenant" instead of "lieutenant"?
Because it's how you pronounce Lieutenant.
That's how the "English" pronounce Lieutenant. Left-tenant, while us Americans say Lieu-tenant.
@@corruptarrow8873 It's not just a matter of "one country does it this way while the other country does it another way", in this case the Americans are objectively right and the english are like toddlers who aren't even able to speak "their own" language
Lieutenant is a french word that basically means "site overseer", it's from the words lieu (same root as local and locality) and tenant (which is a french word that wasn't botched in english and still exists there)
So the original meaning of lieutenant was basically "the tenant of the local", it was a term born from medieval times obliviously, which was later carried over as an army term in the french army, including the norman army which conquered england in 1066, hence why it became part of the military lexicon there as well
As for how the english could go from speaking correctly to replacing it by "LEFTtenant" which literally makes absolutely no sense and seemingly comes out of nowhere, I have no idea, but it's a trend, 70% of the english language is just horribly botched french words, another good example is "fancy", which is just the highly degenerated form of the word "fantasy", that's right, that's where the word fancy comes from, now imagine how drunk/stupid someone would need to be to go "ugh that's there's looking all uh real uh fantzy uh fancy like innit?" until the word turns from fantasy to fancy, then imagine just how much drunkeness/stupidity needs to be present in the whole population for a mispelling this catastrophic to not only become widespread but also the accepted default option. All in all the story of england just feels like people who slowly forgot how to speak over the centuries, gives me heavy mordor lord of the ring vibes
But in conclusion, in this case, the Americans somehow still use the correct spelling and prononciation, while the english switched to a prononciation that is not only incorrect, but also completely absurd and nonsensical for some reason, if any of you ever visits england, I recommend trying to educate them on how to speak english properly, it's getting kinda sad at this point
