I have never seen such destruction of our fisheries like this…literally hundreds of undersized fish…thousands of bait fish and sting rays just layed to waste as these morons step all over them…well done TnT…thanks for showing the world that you have no idea how to sustain your fisheries…I swear I don’t want to hear a single fisherman in Trini complain about not catching anything…if this is the situation pulling sein you can just imagine the level of destruction those unregulated trawlers create…well yes fadda!! Smfh 🙄
I love the interaction you had with the youths instead of just trying to run them off that was real humble of you, keep it up. I know this is what the village knows in terms of fishing for years now, no doubt pulling seine damages the seabed and kills alot of smaller fishes unnecessarily, nice coverage of the action keep it up.
Of course...Them youths was reall vibes man...It is the traditional way of fishing for years...But it causes alot of damage and the by-catch is really sad to see...Hopefully in the not too distant future the method can be adapted to make it less damaging...Glad you enjoyed the footage!
My boy put a jack in he pocket yes lol!! epic. Cool footage Kos. Everyone get a lil food to take home. Wish the net holes were a lil bigger though. Lots of smaller fish there.
Yea bro! Men putting fish all over! I wish that as well...Was sad to see all of the smaller fish being trapped...But as you said everyone got something to take home...
This has always been a way of life in T&T and as time pass our waters get more barren....Thousands of dead small fish ...makes things even more tuff for inshore fishing.
Yes, it has been like this for decades...But it is very damaging...We need to have some changes made to sustain the fishery...But when...It is their way of making a living...
KoS. The seine is one of the reasons why fish stocks in Mayaro have been depleted . I was born, and grew up there. I am now 66 years old. For over a hundred years seines have been straining the waters of Mayaro, destroying everything caught. At one time I could recall there were about six seines in service. Cham, Lee Ha , Borel, Nathan, DeGannes are some of the names I remember. There were never Government input to regulate the size of the mesh, nor were they regulated as to how many times a day the seine could be thrown. Aside from destroying the seabed, everything is killed. I remember one afternoon a school of over 500 stingrays were netted, They just hauled them up on the beach and let them die there, and be corbeaux food ! We children would go behind the curved seine, as it was being hauled up on the beach. Small fish by the millions would escape through the mesh and try to escape back to the sea, passing through our legs !! As a boy, fish used to be caught by the TRUCKLOADS.....not pickuploads ! Four, five, six truckloads of Cavalli, Carite and Ancho when in season. They used to describe it as "Seine Tombay", in those circumstances. The smell of frying fish used to pervade the air for that afternoon. Fish like Herrings, Cro-cro, Sapatay, Cutlassfish, Catfish, Bannan, and others used to be left by the basketfuls for corbeaux to eat. No one wanted them !.......Today people are eating Crappofish !! I am really surprised from your video that that amount of fish is still being caught in a seine in Mayaro.......despite the Sargasso weed ! Many Third world countries still use seines, as I have seen on UA-cam. And the catch is far worse than in Mayaro. I see you were doing your part. Thanks for the video.
Wow...That is an amazing recollection you have described there...I can only imagine witnessing the seine those days...Amazing! Seeing those quantity of catches and the size and types of fishes...We can only dream of those days now...It is indeed sad to see the level of by-catch still happening...The mesh size and frequency is definitely things that need to be regulated! Hopefully one day, the gov't will realise the importance of sustainability and put things in place. Thank you for your recollection...At least I have an idea of how things use to be! Glad you still enjoyed the video!
A true account of land seine. I'm 74 and I went to Mayaro RC in St Ann's Road and when the conch horn blow the school became virtually empty. All of us gone for fish to take home and then back to school. Those were the days.
Yes indeed...That is the Mayaro way of life! I can remember seine as long as I can remember going to Mayaro! Good times for sure! Living there must have been an experience for sure!
Wow I haven't seen that in donkey years! Great episode 👏 👌 👍 Glad to see the community come together to help pull that net in. Glad to see you saved some baby fish and sting rays also KosM. With no regulations in Trinidad and Tobago anything goes which can be bad for keeping the fish population high. Keep them videos coming though. Those little boys were happy to see you. FISH 🐟 🐠 🎣 🐡 ON !
Thank you! Glad I can bring back some memories! It was indeed great to see the whole community coming out! Great expereince! I tried my best to rescue as much as possible! We do need some better regulations in place tho...Bigger mesh size in the nets...Protected zones...etc...Hopefully one day! Those small men were real vibes yes...Glad I got to meet them! Thanks as always for watching! Fish oN!
Seine fishing depletes the ocean to some extent. So many juvenile fish going to waste. What a pity.I was so happy seeing you throw back fish and stingray in the sea.. Had the pleasure of seine fishing in Mayaro, many many years ago. definitly hard work , and I was just there for the experience while on vacation.
Yes indeed it can be a destructive type of fishing...Especially with soo much by catch. Hopefully it the not too distant future, it can be somewhat regulated. It is always a great experience to see it happening in front of you! Good times!
Yooo kos good vid as always.......I never see ah seine pull.... my grandfather was ah fisherman he say he pull 1...but I wah see 1 pull 1 day.....fish onn!!!!
Great video kos. These were some of my first memories of eating cutlass fish while growing up. That thing was nicee. It tastes way better when from the Atlantic.
Nice to see you putting effort into saving whatever rays and by-catch you find, one of the few times I was ever there to see this when I was much smaller, about 9 or 10 I’d say, me and a friend took it upon ourselves to carry as many cownose rays that were left up on the beach to die back into the water, from what I remember there were atleast 20 of them with the only casualties being one plus a small eagle ray we were too late for, glad to see the big guy back in the water by the end tho (pretty sure it’s a Caribbean whiptail if I remember right)
Had to try my best! Glad that you and your friend made such a great effort! Always worth saving a life...No matter what...Great job! And yes...Reall happy the big guy made it back as well!
Hi KOSm, thanks for sharing this experience, great interaction with the youths. No one should haggle fish prices, that was a lot of work. Glad to see you were being safe, thanks again 👍
I can’t believe that so many small fish had to die in this process. In my mind all those small fish are the ones with the sea. Something has to be done about that fission that also secures the return of those small fish.
Years and many years as a young boy we spend a week in Mayaro, and every morning fishermen pull those SEINE.That's a good tradition and culture to keep. Who ever in charge of the beach there should try to bury some of the seaweed.
I wish Trinidad can Come back as it were once again well our prime m body of TNT will have to say what he like s for TNT and I hope it will be for the best for our people in Trinidad
Nice when I was 7 use to pull fish with dad in Trinidad. Trust me pure cussing. Sail up him and his friends always had fun. Next time in Trinidad would take my son to pull sail see if he has it in him. Bless thanks good times.
Thanks bro! Great haul indeed! The bycatch was sad to see...But i think the seaweed caused a lot of the smaller fish to get trapped as well! Men was putting fish everywhere yes! lol
hell of a pull , dang.. argue with method all you like, can't argue with results though... use the little fish that you don't want for bait or food, use them in the garden or for ocean fertilizing, use everything, even the seaweed...
Yes indeed! They had a greattt haul!! Was still sad to see the by-catch...But if it could all be put to use...That makes it a lil better! Great experience!
This is one video showing the devastating effects that these fishermen have on the fish population. Imagine the decades of destruction. That is why in Trinidad you can throw a line and never catch a fish.

Well said. It is painful to watch this level of disregard for nature
On point. So terrible
Well said sir! Sad to see such destruction of all the little fish! The entire world is watching this probably shaking their heads 😲
I totally agree. Not one person thinking about conservation, only to pack fish in their pockets and barrels. This video literally hurt me to the core.
So upsetting, especially about the undersized fish!

Good job ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!
I am surprised that they don’t get them small fish
I like how the dog was right there in it lol
The small fish I believe got trapped by seaweed...And yea...the dog was right there in everything! lol

Yes indeed! It is a longgg standing tradition...I can still remember it is a kid on the beach....Good times!
alot of by catch but you think if it didnt have all that grass the bait would of escaped?
Yea bro...I feel a good bait of the small bait would have been able to go back....But...Part of the process I guess...
Nicee nicee
Thanks bro!
Enjoy this, looook at seaweed
Glad you did! Realll sea weed!
Which dji drone were you using

Yes...That's the sad part of the process...
Enjoyable video!
Great haul of fish, sad to see the by catch wasted.
The best part is "man pockets have whole cavali" lol
Thanks bro! Great haul indeed! The bycatch was sad to see...But i think the seaweed caused a lot of the smaller fish to get trapped as well! Men was putting fish everywhere yes! lol
It's been years since I've seen this. Sad to see all the small fish die
Yea bro! Years for me too! But always a great experience! Indeed sad to see all of the bycatch!
Nice
Thank you!
Poor fish but appreciate you trying to save stingrays unlike the other people🙄
I tried my best...Sad to see all of the by catch....

Too much small fish lost
Yes indeed...That was the sad part!

Yes indeed....It shows how traditional net fishing can really damage a fishery when left unregulated...The by-catch was really sad to see...
I think the fisher men should try to send back all the lil fish back in the sea
If there was a way to do it...I believe they would! Net fishing is always destructive!

the figment section made me think it was 100's of rays and wasted fish...
It was a lot of by-catch! But mostly smaller fish!
If it wasn't for all that sea weed all those small fish would of escape because of the size of the net.
there are ways to net fish that reduces the bycatch significantly with bellows tubes to channel them away..
Yes indeed...I believe the sea weed did cause a lot more of them to get trapped than would have normally...Was sad to see though...
But bro thats a whole lot of dead bait and small fish man..
Yea bro...Net fishing is always destructive!
All dem lil fish jus wasted
That was the sad part!
Seine is a killer of too much baby fish I seen it in Jamaica I don’t like it!..👊🏿🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Agreed bro....Too much bycatch!
That seaweed is worth money in Canada
I better start shipping it! lol
that is bs the should be in jail for that
The by-catch was indeed very sad to see...hopefully this can be changed in the near future..
No wonder fish numbers are depleted in TnT, all those small fish will never grow up and no one cares.
That was the sad part of the process...
You can be an advocate for more sustainable fishing practices using your video@@KoSMTT
Heartbreaking to watch, so much loss of bycatch. I wonder if those youths will have fish when they grow older. Eat now , starve later
Typical third world thinking going on there…they all want to eat now but never remember there is a tomorrow…rel sad video yes

In NZ this would be criminal.
Many places I believe...But in the Caribbean, it is a traditional method of fishing that has been taking place for decades...I do hope that some changes are made soon!
Plenty sea weed
Reallll plenty!
I from mayaro
Nice! From a greattt place!
